My getting in shape thread (PICS)
 
Heres the background:

A little over 3 years ago I was in really super shape thanks to a personal trainer, eating healthy and running after a 2-year-old nonstop. I quit the trainer because I was going through a divorce and the stress of it also encouraged me to eat comfort food. During the 1 1/2 year period following that I went through 2 jaw surgeries which left me anorexic looking each time I went through it. So I started with the perfect balance of muscle and fat, then gained more fat, then lost both fat and muscle after the first surgery, gained back the weight, then went through the same procedure and weight loss again.

Now I feel like, while still a petite person, I don't have the muscle tone or curves I used to have. I've been in the gym sporadically but it never stuck. My new life is very busy and I have a lot to fit in. Because I am a single mother, I can't get up early to go to the gym or go after work either. Plus my job has me sitting on my ass all day. So I need help! I am attending a big event in Miami this May and I want to be completely HOT. That gives me just under 3 months.

I am hoping that posting this here will gain me a couple things:

1. Advice on specific exercise routines that I can fit into my schedule. (I have a gym membership but the only times I will be able to make it would be ONE mid-day during the week and ONE weekend day. So I need a plan for fitting the gym in, as in what to do there to maximize my time, with some things I can do at home.)

and most importantly...

2. Encouragement and a reason not to quit!

Here are my before pics. I will post new pics every 3-4 weeks until the trip in May. All your advice and encouragement is very welcome.

Looks like a smoking hot little body to me.. At most I would say you just need to tone up to your own comfort level.. Otherwise you have no reason to worrry about what your body looks like at this point.

only eat when you are actually hungry . . .


drink water

try to work out every day .. not every day very intense but make sure you do something every day.. losing wait getting in shape is not all that hard . .but the thing is you acutally have to do it..

that being said . the before looks great ... are you sure y ou need to "get in shape" ? ;)

I used to have a more defined waist and at least a "4 pack". I would like to get that back. I have booty for a white girl, but would like it to be a little less jiggly. The thighs could lose a couple of inches for the short skirt wearing coming up this summer and the arms would look better in halter tops with more tone to them. I'm aware I'm lucky to look the way I do considering I haven't done anything about my body in 3 years, have a 5-year-old, eat icecream several times a week and refuse anything except dark beer and full fat salad dressing. But I'm going to a big weekend event in Miami where there will be lots of hotties in bikinis and I want to be in top form.

Now wheres the damn advice?? :)

you already look great. to accomplish what you're looking for id just do a couple hundred situps a day and run for 30 mins to an hour a couple times a week.

I don't know why you're trippin'.

run, do LOTS of core work. run some more. Yoga and/or Pilates would be good.
Stay away from pasta, bread, and alcohol (especially beer).
Get away from dairy and other fats and eat lots of fruit and veggies.

For pete's sake, don't get any skinnier. Looks perfect to me already. Anymore working out and you'll turn into one of those muscle chicks and your tits and ass will disappear.

Here is a suggestion:

If you are OK with taking fat burners, pop 1-2 Lipodrene pills (or similar) first thing in the morning and hit the cardio for 30 min eventually progressing to an hour. Then eat a square breakfast. Do a light lunch and then a healthy afternoon snack such as yogurt or fruit. Eat a decent dinner and have a low carb protien bar or shake if you feel hungry before bed. :)

Eat moderate protein and carbs - low fat. Get at least 1200 calories a day & make sure you get at least 30 - 45 mnts of aerobic activity.

aside the fact that you're fucking good looking, here's what i'd suggest:

Minimum of 150 minutes of cardiovascular exercise/week. NO - you don't have to sweat to lose weight, you have to find out what your fatburning pulse frequency is and hit it with about 1hr/day which should lead to about 1k calories burned in addition to what you're already burning. Check google for your burning frequency and compute by height/weight/age.
Work your target zones with light weights and high rep sets. Go jogging to stack up on stamina and endurance. Except the jogging part, you don't really need a gym for anything. A home trainer/bicycle, etc does the trick for basic cardio and minor weights or an elastic band will facilitate the resistance workout. Still, take the 2 days/week in the gym to burn your muscles out with higher weights.
regulate your food intake, eat smaller portion but more often. your metabolism is going to work harder/more through exercise, always give it something to burn (small portions).
I guess that should do as quick tips. and before i get flamed by some jackass here, step on the scales and look in the mirrors, motherfuckers, then come back and talk.

Only thing I can see so far is the abs, they could be tighter and more defined. If you want it to be tighter I you have to do cardio like 3x a week at least and do lots of crunches... Also try pilates, they have a lot of good ab movements, oh and sit ups on the ball... try doing different things all the time to exhaust all your ab muscles...

dont get too worked up over your body. like everyone else said, it looks pretty damn good.

find something that gives you a good work out and you actually enjoy. that would be my only advice.

I wouldn't do much to that body .. it you want a bit more definition that's cool but don't go crazy .. you look very feminine so don't bulk up to much or lose your curves
