Letter sent to Stigamot (Icelantic Rape center resp. for canceling snowgathering)
 

I just sent this letter to Stigamot - the rape center in Iceland responible for all the lies to the media and the cancelation of the hotel and convention.

Congratulations.

You seem to have won and can celebrate a victory.

Being lied about and socially ostracized like I have been recently in the Iceland media by your organization I now have an idea how it must feel to be powerless against irrational uncontrollable anger.

In effect you basically denied a Canadian with Icelandic roots and no criminal record the ability to visit the land of his forefathers for a vacation. Something I have looked forward to for many years.

Did you effect the operations of the online adult industry at all - no. You interrupted the vacation time of some site owners that run legal operations. You had the opportunity to meet and discuss with many of the highest traffic websites in the world about your concerns but instead you choose to pass. It's possible you avoided the ability to effect what may have been positive change in the industry and opted for terrorist tactics and lies and had us cancel our vacation time so we could stay home and work more.

I honestly would have liked to have met with representatives of your organization to see if there was anything we could do in our operations to be more sensitive to the needs of groups like yours. I currently work with several and adhere to principles and practices that we helped to establish for many businesses in the online adult community. I honestly feel your behavior in this matter only sets up an environment of hate, revenge and mistrust. I hope that if you can overcome your anger someday and I feel that if you ever wish to break the chains of oppression it's done with agreements, understanding and rational negotiation.

Knowing the horrors many of you have gone though I can forgive you for this overzealous behavior and hope that in your hearts you have the courage to one day sit down and talk with myself or other representatives of the online adult community to discuss viewpoints and hopefully incorporate change and understanding for both of us in a more positive direction.

If you ever come to Canada I would be happy to extend an invitation to representatives of your organization to lunch or dinner and discuss this further in a civil manor. On me.

I wish only the best for the people in your recovery centers and fell for the horrors they had to experience.

Please accept my apology for the stress this vacation gathering has caused your organization.

Someday I hope we can move towards change. As a suggestion maybe in the future you can contact organizations like snowagthering or myself directly with your concerns before going to the media in an effort of corporation, goodwill and trust.

I pray you have the courage to read this and the integrity to respond.
Somehow I doubt it . Please prove me wrong.

Nice work. I would have added a few other things, like the financial impact that the show has for the island, as well as the fact that many of us not only donate time, but money as well to organizations like thiers.

You should have had somebody proof-read it. I counted 7 errors in one reading.

I wasn't quite through the second paragraph when I started thinking that same thought.

Well-said though, would have been just a smidge more effective with the needed corrections.

With so many homosexual men labelled as paedophiles you would of thought an organisation representing lesbians, and I assume sympathetic to gay mens rights, they would of been a little more careful who they called child abusers.

true - but for a country of 300,000 a convenion of 100+ people is a serious economic boost. most any small city of 200,000 people (size of Reykjavik) with a 100+ person convention notices it.

Nice letter Scott. I agree you should try and get that into the media over there somehow. I believe you should send a similar letter to the individuals managing the Hotel over there for Radission. A version to the head of Radission wouldn't hurt either. I guess the number of people that deserve a copy of this is a rather long list.

Excellent letter, I hope they at least read it and realize they aren't dealing with monsters, they're dealing with real people who are reasonable and willing to talk instead of using the guerrilla tactics that they've used.
