"O yea, I do great with AdWords!" = BULLSHIT?

Lets do a little math here. Suppose we get the cheapest ass keywords at 5c a pop. Now we only get half of the revenue cuz the sponsor gets the other half... so about $15 per sale. Now, what kind of conversion do we need pull to even come out in the profit? Unreal conversion! 1:300 just to break even. I'm calling bullshit!!!!!!

For one, I'd like to make money with Adwords, and if anyone can show me the error of my ways - I'd thank you... with $ also.

madawgz 04-21-2006 12:55 PM

adwords sucks.....

PPS is often about $30-$35 per sale, but aside from that, quite a few program owners actually do campaigns themselves.

baddog 04-21-2006 01:08 PM

Just because you can't do it doesn't mean it can't be done.

Damian_Maxcash 04-21-2006 01:13 PM

I would have thought Adwords did WAY better than 1:300 - This isnt TGP traffic.

Also I doubt anyone would do it for $15 a sale - where did you get that figure from?

1:300 with adwords traffic? that's horrible. target less broad terms. get off their content network. make sure people know they'll be paying for porn when they click your link. shoot for the #1 spot on the left, or #3 spot on the right. send the traffic to a landing page offering multiple sites in the niche you're targeting. tweak your campaigns as needed.

chshkt 04-21-2006 01:13 PM

of course that everything can be achieved... but on what price?

moniker1 04-21-2006 01:19 PM

OK I fucked up with the payout amount... let's say it is $30 PPS. Then break-even conversion is 1:600. Still un-real. And that's with 0.05 MINIMUM BID. Any keyword worth shit is multiples of 0.05

Ehm, 1:600 is not unreal.

Sosa 04-21-2006 01:23 PM

Seems to me you have to have a lot of traffic to make a decent amount with adwords.

Tom_PM 04-21-2006 01:24 PM

1:300 is horrible :(

Shoot for less than 1:50 and you're doing well.

Go back to school - and I thought my maths was bad :(

moniker1 04-21-2006 01:33 PM

Are you telling me you do 1:50 and below on adwords selling porn?

Not trying to discredit your numbers there but how do we get 4440 uniques from only 1797 clicks on the ad?

yes, regularly.

Work hard and smart and experiment and watch your bottom line like a damn hawk. Learn spreadsheets to do your P&L. It's a business :)

moniker1 04-21-2006 01:50 PM

And that's for what period of time?

Dirty F 04-21-2006 01:51 PM

I do 1:30 with adwords.

Dollarmansteve 04-21-2006 01:55 PM

I run the adwords campaigns over here. I currently run one that does between 5 - 8 joins per day converting at 1:20. I have a $100/day cap.

Pornwolf 04-21-2006 01:56 PM

It's possible but you definitely can't do it with every sponsor. The more niched you can get the better.

StuBradley 04-21-2006 02:03 PM

I do about 1:85 on evalovescum with adwords. I dont know if any of my affiliates use it but I pay $25-30 per signup for her site. I can't see how they could not make a profit unless they were going for overly broad words like "cum".

Galleries from TGP/MGP traffic that doesn't convert for shit...

Also I do SE work... so a small portion comes from that too... unfortunately the sponsor in question doesn't have campaign tracking...

So you can attribute about 10% of sales to everything else and 90% to the Adwords campaign it runs in.

I love this campaign because I set it up last year and haven't touched it since... I just keep getting paid for basically do.... nothing....

vanillaice 04-21-2006 02:24 PM

Adwords traffic doesn't convert, dont' believe the hype ;)

I used to do better than that with some Nasty Dollars ads before someone decided to do them for amounts per click that I was no longer comfortable with.

vanillaice 04-21-2006 03:11 PM

Quick question to Adwords gurus who use landing pages. What's a good CTR from the landing page to the affiliate? I'm pushing between 70%-85% depending on the landing page / niche. Is that what I should expect, or more? Personally I would think better, but i'm picky. I don't like losing 150-200 clicks every 1k

Ok first of all you can get keywords for as low as 1 cent not 5.

Secondly doing revshare with Adwords is retarded. If you have 3 months worth of ad budget money are are willing to wait 3 months to see if can even break even then go for it.

1:300 sucks. If you keywords are perfoming that badly then you need to drop them. Still 1:300 even at 5 cents per click and a sponsor paying $30 per sign up means a 100% profit.

Also depends on how much you spend. Say if you could spend $20K a week and even if you only made 10% profit that's $100K in profit a year. Not bad.

That seems about right. You can't expect to get 100% of everyone to go to the sponsor. Those 150-200 probally wouldn't have signed up anyways. But if you want to be sure make 2 ads, one going to the landing page one going directly to the sponsor. This is assuming your sponsor uses campaign codes. Have both ads show equally for the exact same keywords at the same price per click. do this for a month and see which ad makes you more money. Don't worry about conversion ratios in your sponosr stats it's PROFIT that counts.

SmokeyTheBear 04-21-2006 03:18 PM

i will give everyone the simplest cliff notes

If you buy traffic for 5cents and sell it for 6 cents your making 1 penny

do that a million times and how much money have you made.. ?

A lot of pennies. I'd imagine rolling all those pennies up would take long time.

potter 04-21-2006 03:20 PM

1:300 ? I do better than that off tgp/babeblog traffic.

I only get 60% CTR and it is very profitable. This is on 24 unique-IP tracking.

Since they made the '1 site per search listing', i've been very scared to try to send directly to sponsor. Doesn't it cost a fortune? (unless you find a rare unused sponsor of course) I assume you have to get in shitty bidding wars with people.

Thanks, I was stressing over the 60% today, it definitely makes my 75-80% ratios look better.

vanillaice 04-21-2006 03:31 PM

My biggest Adwords gripe...

Not only does it seem like they stop reviewing ads at like 1pm on friday afternoon until sometime monday morning, it's getting frustrating to see mid-week changes take 2-3 days now. To be fair though, my last few changes have been completed in about 24 hours, but it does suck when you're A/B testing ads and want to make changes every 50-100 clicks or so.

chadglni 04-21-2006 03:35 PM

A guy in my downline was pushing around $250,000 per year on paid advertising. About 90% of it was adwords and that was just 1 program out of a dozen or so on his landing page.

elitetec 04-21-2006 03:51 PM
