Anyone had corrective eye surgery?

I'm on the edge of complete indecision here with this.... I'm fairly sure that I would be eternally grateful for getting it done... but still, the cost is proposterously high... yet, I'm sick and fucking tired of wearing glasses.... yet, I'm not sure what to expect in terms of eye downtime..... or when the best time to have it done would be.....

anyone got anything to say on it either way? Good or bad....

Fro 04-28-2002 03:37 PM

Don't do it.

Buy new frames... Chicks dig sensitive guys in glasses.

You're sensitive, right?

twistyneck 04-28-2002 03:37 PM

My mom had it done with 100% success on both eyes. She's glad she had it done. Go to someplace good though, not someplace with a coupon in the paper.

Tiger Woods and a lot of Pro golfers had it done.....and they
seem to do well with it.... I'm not sure but I heard there is
very little recovery.... involved...

Go for it man, Your eyes and sight are 1 of the most valuable
things in life. If this can help you you would do yourself a fucking
big favour!

Remove your eyes and get a low-power sonar rig installed in the head-holes...did me a world of good.

not bad..... but only if I could get the hot swappable model.

Dualcpu 04-28-2002 03:41 PM

If you want it done without too much risk, don't look at the price as most important factor. You can't spend too much when it comes to health.

ServerGenius 04-28-2002 03:41 PM

The sonar works fine but you got to stick batteries up your ass
and that can be a real pain :1orglaugh

not really looking at price as the most important factor, but it is certainly one of the factors.... but yes, if I do it, it'll be here with one of the world's best in the biz.

Fro 04-28-2002 03:43 PM

Humm...

Well, look, you're a bit narcissistic... so why not go for it?

no, not at all.... I'm nearsighted.

"I'm fairly sure that I would be eternally grateful for getting it done..."

"yet, I'm sick and fucking tired of wearing glasses...."

Sounds like you're going to do it eventually anyways. Might as well do it sooner than later. You might have some downtime, but then you have the rest of your life for uptime.

Do it sooner.

Amputate Your Head 04-28-2002 03:46 PM

but what if they fuck it up and I end up blind? That would suck.

Are your eyes going to keep getting worse as time goes by without the surgery?

davvve 04-28-2002 03:52 PM

ok, not too much...
I read some article about these kind of operations. Here in Scandinavia they had done about 1000 operations and not one single had been unsuccessful.

BTW, it costs 1,5k / eye here...

not really... they're about as bad as they're gonna get.... but having worn specs for 23 years... believe me, the crutch gets real old....

Amputate Your Head 04-28-2002 03:55 PM

what if it turns me gay or something? I hear that's a risk....

Dualcpu 04-28-2002 03:55 PM

Just make sure you keep your head very still during the "operation" ;-)

see... that's the kinda shit that bothers me.... how the hell do you keep your head still when someone is slicing your eyeball??? What if you flinch or something? How can they prevent that? Cuz that would fucking suck..... I've never even been able to wear contacts, so it's not like I'm used to having shit touching my freakin' eyeball.

Dualcpu 04-28-2002 04:00 PM

Well I am sure they put your head in some sort of support system to keep your head stable.

Just keep thinking about the fact that if you flinch....BAM!...instant gayness for life.

Amputate Your Head 04-28-2002 04:06 PM

they must clamp your head down in some kinda skull-vise or something.... I can't be the only one who would have a problem with shit fucking around with my eye.... like, some kinda torture device that spreads your eye open and keeps you still..... or do they put you under with drugs or something?

swedguy 04-28-2002 04:54 PM

Hey AMP, have you seen "Clockwork Orange"?

There was one guy that had his head strapped in to a headrest and his eyes pryed open with 2 metal clamps. They have perfected it a little bit more now :winkwink:

Just kidding. I read an article about it couple of months ago in a Swedish newspaper. It was just like davvve said, all they have done so far has turned out well. :glugglug

Call Ohio State Univeristy hospitals, get the right dept and they will tell you what is involved and may even tell you someone in your area that is good.. I believe they DO put you on something as just restraining your head doesn't prevent eye movement. They offer the info freely and have some of the best in the World in doctors etc. :thumbsup

If you need the numbers, one of us locals can get them for you. :)

titmowse 04-28-2002 05:16 PM

Oprah would tell you to find a quiet room. Be real still and ask your inner voice...:moon

Eric 04-28-2002 05:23 PM

Amp,

I had it done about 2 years ago and if you can have it done go for it. Make sure you stick to seeing the doc and using your drops afterwards.

roseyrid 04-28-2002 05:29 PM

when I was younger everyone told me if I masterbated I would go blind. So I never masterbated. Then my eyes starting going bad so i got glasses. I then started masterbating and my eyes got worse...so I had a dilemma...should I masterbate and go blind, or not masterbate and go blind. I chose to masterbate. Now my vision really sucks...i should get that eye surgery...i heard it works amazing, and is almost instant results.

Tanker 04-28-2002 05:34 PM

I had it done on the 17th of this month

it was awesome very easy no pain at all
it took 10 minutes
I got up and the next morning had a follow up
20/20 vision I had 20/300 before that and a bad stigmatism
I used to not be able to see my hand in front of my face

it was simple and I paid 1100 bucks
the place I went is national they are all over the use
www.laservisioninstitute.com
the office I went to does 70 surgeries a day

Tanker 04-28-2002 05:38 PM

they dont clamp your head down either they do place a device on your eye that keeps you from blinking and it tiny and you dont feel it cause you got numbing drops in your eye...

you wont have the feeling to blink anyway because of the numbing you cant feel that your eye is dry, from not blinking

Go for it I know the place I had it done is running a special price right now you might be able to get it a great price.

check the link above and see if there is a location near you

baddog 04-28-2002 06:04 PM

I say go for it. I had it done many years ago, back in the day when they cut with a diamond blade. There was no laser surgery at the time.

The eye is the fastest healing organ in the body. It heals so fast in fact, that they give you eye drops to keep it from healing right away, so that the pressure in your eyes can actually make them flat again.

Of course, that was back when they sliced the eye like a pie, with this new laser surgery it may be even quicker

Back then I had health insurance, and they covered the entire procedure, otherwise I would say it was the best money I ever spent.

Amp Baby, I am looking into it also, Tanker has a good link here, I have checked this place out, it seems awesome. Eye "downtime" they said would be about 8 hours. They want you to go home and sleep right after the process. Call em, they tell you all about it.

Tanker 04-28-2002 06:57 PM

as soon as I got out of the surgery room I could see 20/20

they told me to go home and sleep for a few hours and gave me some valeume (Spelling) to ensure I did I woke up later that night and could see like a hawke

you just have to use a lot of eye drops ( anti bacteria type) for a week like four times a day and some normal eye drops to relieve the dryness other then that it is easy

no pain at all I was scared to death when I went in but damn it was easier then a checkup at the doctors no shots no turn and cough

I would do it again no prob

Hi there!

I have done an eyeop here in Norway. It was free.......

Beware.....4 fucking long needles in your eye.....Pray for some coke.....

Joking aside, I have operated my left eye and I have to do my rigth aswell.... My sigth is not that much better (about 5% ) I am almost blind on the left...go figure

The 4 needles was no joke by the way........

Amputate Your Head 04-28-2002 07:52 PM

well, I AM seriously considering it for several reasons.....

sick of wearing specs
sick of cleaning the specs
sick of having to buy new specs
unable to wear sunglasses and still see anything
can't see when doing stuff like surfing...
etc...

I'm 35 and just really sick of being chained to wearing fucking glasses 24/7.... I have looked into it a few times in the past, but never was able to commit to actually doing it.... but I think I have to now... it's all I think about anymore... freedom from glasses. Tanker, your input has definately helped.... my brother had it done a year or so ago, and he said it was kinda painful, but I guess I can deal with that if that's the case.... after all, I've had the majority of my skin tattooed, so if I can deal with that pain, I can pretty much take anything they can dish out. I just don't wanna end up blind..... that's my greatest fear of the whole thing..... cuz if I lose my eyes, I'm kinda fucked for doing what I do....

but yeah.... I think I will probly take the plunge and get it done sometime between now and the end of June..... before we get on the plane to move to Maui.... cuz I wanna be able to see when I'm surfing and diving..... and glasses are no longer the answer....

thanks for the input guys... :thumbsup

I appreciate it.
