Amp, my friend... I would HIGHLY recommend it..

I had it done two years ago, and my vision is still perfect. It was perfect the moment I walked away from the operating room. There was one day of immense pain, but that's only because my vision was so horrid; Now, it's so wonderful.

I would recommend going to Canada to do it, as it's half the price of the US, generally speaking..

AdultNex 08-03-2003 06:26 PM

I'm thinking about getting Lasik surgery as well, so, did you get it Amp? If so, how're you seeing now?

fun2cboys 08-03-2003 06:29 PM

My brother had it done...Gave him great drugs for the pain he could see perfect 20/20 a couple of days later....Says he is glad he did it.

Amputate Your Head 08-03-2003 07:11 PM

no, I didn't get it... the doctor I went to told me that because of the severity of my astigmatism, it was about a 50/50 shot that it would help at all. So I pretty much resigned myself to wearing glasses for the rest of my days.

Raven-69 08-03-2003 09:02 PM

I had it done May 2002, overall everything went well but I was at 20/40 in one eye and 20/50 on the other so I decided to have enhancements done Oct 2002 and within 2-3 week I was 20/20 both eyes and still am. Paid $1200 and eye and it was worth every penny! Trust me its a piece of cake.

BradShaw 08-03-2003 09:08 PM

I had it done in 2000. One of the best things I have ever done. I highly reccomend it. BUT, do not fall for the tv ads, you get what you pay for. Talk to people, shop around. You only have one set of eyes.

I still have some vison issues at night driving, but I had those with contacts as well.

PornAddict 08-03-2003 09:55 PM

A close friend of mine had it done and now has 20/20 vision. He said the surgery lasted about 10 minutes... but what was weird is that he was pretty much blind for a few hours afterwards. His vision was blurry (the doctor said that's normal). So anyway, he went to sleep and woke up around 3am and noticed he had crystal clear vision. He is thrilled with the outcome.

Definately worth it! Had it done about 1 1/2 year ago, and am still as happy as the first day. And it's done so fast it's incredible...

But one thing you must never forget, go with a great surgeon. Do not fall for those cheap places, your sight is worth much more than a few hundred bucks...

michaelw 08-03-2003 11:33 PM

one word
contacts

Gator 08-04-2003 09:27 AM

Contacts are a pain in the balls.

I had the surgery over a year ago and it was worth every penny. You'll be able to see better the same day you get it done.

Mackone 08-04-2003 09:37 AM

Read this: http://www.surgicaleyes.org/

I wouldn´t do it.

Tru 08-04-2003 09:45 AM

I had RK done back in 1995 on my left eye prior to the surgery my vision was about 20/200!!!

Now I can see between 20/30 - 2/40 which is a major difference.

I will be getting my other eye done by laser in the near future.

Do your research, go for quality and not the lowest price!!

Good luck

Not everyone is an ideal candidate for the surgery and some unscrupulous docs will perform the procedure on any guy who walks in the door with a fat cheque. THOSE are the people who have night vision problems etc.

Don't choose your surgeon based on price, see more than one surgeon to check them out, and go for all of your follow-up appointments and be diligent with all of the follow-up procedures. I guarantee it'll be the best thing you ever did for yourself.

Jizzman 08-04-2003 11:15 AM

I had both eyes done at the same time 5 years ago. Was 20/200 in both eyes before. Now my eyes are 20/20 and 20/15 (fyi 20/20 is 'average' vision not 'perfect' vision)

I have since talked 5 people into getting it done and they are all very happy as am I. My operation was 4500$ CAD 5 years ago, took about 15 mins. My friends had theirs done 2 years ago in montreal, total cost for both eyes $1500 Canadian. They had it done in the morning and were back to work that same afternoon.

Sooner you get it done the better imho

neewwman 08-04-2003 01:14 PM

I had Lasik done a few years ago. I went from extremely nearsighted to not wearing any glasses (not completely 20-20 but good enough).

The whole operation takes 5 minutes. There is some discomfort but no serious pain.

$5,000 sounds awfully high. Mine was $4,000 several years ago and prices have gone down since then.

Kolargol 08-04-2003 01:31 PM

How many dioptres (or whatever you you call it in English)?
If you have around 10-12 (minus or plus), try it with ONE eye only! If you have less, forget it! I was going to do it, i asked a professor of ophtalmology and he told me that. Besides i am MD and i have seen many fuck ups too...

Explain discomfort, please?

Also, for those who've gotten it done, have you had any side effectes?

CigarMan 08-04-2003 01:54 PM

One of my friends had it done and with one of the best doctors around. She is now blind as a bat at night and can't even drive at night. That is a side effect that is possible which is why I've never had it done.

Nanda 08-04-2003 01:54 PM

I know 4 people that got that eye surgery in COLOMBIA south america, it cost 600$ for both eyes, two of them had it 10 years ago and they both see fine. Those docs there are trained by Spanish doctors, I would get it here!

footsex 08-04-2003 02:01 PM

I had LASIK surgery done on both eyes almost 5 years ago.
I was extremely near sited and now I see perfect, it was the
best descion I ever made. I also know at least a dozen other people who had it done and we all used the same doctor and
everyone that did it loves it. No problems, never any pain, the whole thing is quick and easy. I paid $3,600 and like I said that was almost 5 years ago, the has come down alot.

Columbia eh... :helpme

Gator 08-04-2003 02:26 PM

I don't even notice a difference at night.

maja 08-13-2003 11:44 PM

i jumped and did it last year at Coal Harbor eye centre (in vancouver) i was terrified but completely satisfied with the results. no complications, excellent results for both eyes.

kelly 08-13-2003 11:48 PM

My mum had it done last year, she says it was the best thing she ever did, I'll have it done in a couple of years as my eyesight is getting worse.

Sammy4u 08-14-2003 12:33 AM

Me and my husband both got it done back in April, I believe. We both love it. Since then we have also had another friend get it done, he loves is too. It is amazing. I now see 15/20 and Brett sees 20/20. I wish I would have gotten it done years ago. Sometimes my eyes do feel a bit dry but nothing a few drops can't take care of. And the bit of dryness is nothing compared to them damn contacts I would have to take care of.
It just makes life that much more simple.
Good luck to you.

MikeEP 08-14-2003 01:15 AM

During the 5-15 minutes it takes to do the surgery, figuring that it's about 6 minutes per eye, out of that time, how many minutes is devoted to the laser actually hitting one the eyes? Just curious how long you really need to keep still for each eye when the laser starts shootin'.

Angry American 08-14-2003 04:52 PM

My sister had it done and it didn't help her at all. It actually made her eyes bloodshot all the time. She's a realtor and found and sold expensive houses, but she couldn't sell anything after her surgery becuase she looked stoned all the time! She had a thousand pairs of sunglasses. One for every single friggin' outfit, Ikid you not! Iguess It won't work with some peoples eye's so she had to have it recorrected twice! Screw that!!!!

Sammy4u 08-15-2003 01:48 AM

Mike Ep,
Durring the surgery you have to look at a light that is imposible to look at for about 5-6 minutes, each eye. The surgery itself sucks. It doesn't hurt at all but it is very annoying. The most annoying part is they are always swabbing your eye, drying it out with a little sponge. And you can see them lift your eye flap. It doesn't hurt though. I taped my husbands surgery. I am not sure that we still have it but if we do I would be more then happy to make a video of it. Then everyone could see exactly what goes on. The 5-6 minutes of annoyance is definetly worth the years of annoyance brought on my contacts, or glasses. I have only had my surgery for about 4 months, but I am so happy that I did. The only regret I have is that I didn't do it earlier.

Sammy4u 08-15-2003 01:53 AM

HI AYH,

So- did you ever get the surgery?

nah.... doc said my eyes were borderline and there's a good chance it wouldn't help me at all, so I gave up the whole idea.

Sammy4u 08-15-2003 01:58 AM

Sorry to hear that.
I was so scared my doc would tell me that too. Luckily I was a good candidate.

See this is why your thread never dies. :-)
