"If you don't like the USA, move"

alright. I've noticed a very common response to criticism of G.W.Bush or the direction of US policy quickly generates comments from Patriots suggesting if you don't like it, get out of the country. The smart response aside . . that you want change/improvement specifically because you love the USA and don't want to see it go down a dark path . . I want to know what our options are.

People from other countires please reply!

Where are you from, and what is your countrys immigration process?
how hard is it to get approval for citizenship or permanent residency?

I could look this up at each countries website, but I think the people who live there will give a more realistic response than a bunch of beaurocratic regulations posted in PDF.

Can I pack my bags tomorrow and move to Canada?
England? Australia? NZ? France? The Netherlands? etc

Obviously someone fleeing neoconservative/christian-taliban laws
would want to relocate to countries that offer more freedoms,
so for purposes of this arguement it only counts if your government
is more socially liberal than G.W.Bush wants the USA to be.

to make this thread ontopic, there may very well be several
porn producers here that will want to (have to quickly?) relocate
if the government does crack down on 'obscenity'.

Assume the applicant is just an average joe;
not someone with a million business dollars to invest.
(no buying your way in)

I have a suspicion most developed countries don't want us.
If that turns out to be the case, I'll hope that quiets the "get out" rhetoric.

btw - this isn't a hate/flame post. I'm seriously interested.
Hope I get some honest answers :)

you wanna leave the country because your president sucks
did i get this right?
didnt read everything

ldinternet 01-22-2004 05:06 AM

Just dangle onto the back of a train from France, and the UK will welcome you with open arms. You'll also receive a free house, free health care, and a radio.

sixxxth_sense 01-22-2004 05:08 AM

If im not mistaken, You as an American citizen can anytime move to England. Because England colonized here. Anyways if you are Canadian you can go to England and liver there, that is the case here.

Wouldn't tell you to come to Canada, we don't like americans very much :P haha :BangBang: :BangBang: :BangBang:

im fucking with u! But if you are gay/lesiban come to Canada, we got legal gay marriages. if you wanna come to canada only go to Toronto, cuz thats the place to be. We socialize more than americans but not as much as europeans. dats about it

Once again, that's not a solution. The problems are the same everywhere. You also have dumb people everywhere. You can't just run away and expect the problems to disappear. Trust me, I'd know.

You are mistaken on that point. You can always marry someone though and get a visa to live in the UK that way :)

You forgot about the leather jacket, mobile phone and nike trainers. It seems they're all standard issue too.

doh!

For the purposes of this thread, assume you are already married,
to another american, and want to move your whole family there.
This is potentially for porn distributors fleeing the justice department;
a 30-40 year old with a wife and kids.

People who desire freedom also want to marry based on love;
so no buying OR MARRYING your way in.

Just standard immigration process, please.

elaborate. specifics! how much of this is exageration?
If I get on a plane tomorrow, I get access to health care?
I can buy a house and get a job? I want real information.

I'll conceed dumb people are everywhere. And all countries have problems. But if you want to produce porn, which countries are safer than G.W.Bush's america? If you don't like the Patriot Act, which countries will be better? Some countries have decriminalized drugs. Others have decriminalized prostitution. They do not have a vice squad at war with the populace. They do not have religious extremists, who don't believe in evolution, and want the bible taught in public schools, dominating their country. Therefore, some americans might want to be aware of their options.

jimboc 01-22-2004 05:47 AM

If you come to the UK you won't get locked up without being given a trial by jury. If you are poor and ill you will get free treatment too. Everybody has the right to a place to live, support and benefit.

We are over generous with asylum. I notice a lot of them are being sent back as their countries stablize though.

Obviously to claim asylum you need to get into the country illegally somehow. Lorry drivers are fined 1000's of pounds if they bring in illegals now. A lot of them use fake passports as checks in their own country are bad, they then eat the passport on the plane, the airline gets fined for bringing somebody without a passport and they claim asylum.

I've got a simple solution for that. Collect the passports when checking them. Hand them back out when the passengers are getting off of the plane.

maybe. but how easily would they let me? that's the question!

I believe many europeans and commonwealth countries have some friendly deals with eachother re: migration .. but what about letting americans in to live permanently?

i went on trip to europe exactly 1 year ago, loved it, and didnt use my return ticket.

there ARE alternatives to america. And no, its not the same problems everywhere. People are raised completely different in america, europe has different responses to the same problems -- responses that work.

America is a very young country and approaches problems like a teenager whereas old europe is older and wiser, they've been countries for a lonnnnng time and have a lot of experience with the inherent problems and have some pretty innovative solutions.

Europe has a sense of personal freedom and personal responsibility thats just unknown in america. There would never be a patriot act here. And for that matter you wouldnt be able to sue someone for you spilling coffee in your own lap. It's very refreshing.

It depends what your priorities in life are, if you want material possessions strong churches and repubilcans, stay in america.. If you're more of a liberal humanist, Expatriate!

I like you! okay you can come to canada now :P

haha...

best place to live is EUROPE (no doubt) and will always be! Those people there aren't curropted by money like everyone in USA is. They are more loyal! Respectful more everything. I can't wait to go back there. Although canada is not so bad! But its 2 cold. I love living on the adriatic sea :) MMMMMMM BEST,

Canada is the place to move to. The country is so huge that no problem is too big that it can't be run away from. :D

Cassie 01-22-2004 07:16 AM

the great thing about the adult industry is that if you plan your business right, you can fund and then venture into more of a mainstream business which means if the gavel has been brought down that final time, you won't need the adult business to survive.

those who think they will get rich quick in this business need to wake up. those days are long over and if people haven't taken precautions to set their lives up, those people are in trouble. there has been some serious writing on the wall for a long time now. the current admin is horrible and most agree to that but i do have to say i think they have opened our eyes to what our collegues are doing and lets face it, we don't like what some of our peers have been up to which means we really need to get on the ball and make some changes ourselves, as an industry.

i would never move out of the us because the porn industry all but ceased to exist. there are far more important reasons that would cause me, personally, to move but this industry isn't even on the list. putting your eggs in one basket is just asking for trouble.

Uk aint considered EUROPE to europeans, UK should just float away somewhere close to USA...

KC 01-22-2004 08:01 AM

The US isn't perfect. However the rights guaranteed to us by our Constitution allows us to continue to improve our country.

If you're a US Citizen and you don't like the US President, then get off your ass and vote or get involved in the political process. You can do a lot to make a difference if you really wanted.

The grass isn't greener on the other side. ;)

CDSmith 01-22-2004 08:09 AM

That's right what KC said. Fact is Politicians and diapers have one thing in common: They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.

If people from GFY want to leave the US, you should not try to stop them! They obviously have thought long and hard about it, and are making the right decision!!

let's just face it, the adult industry professionals will become the new nomadic tribe of the modern age. There is no place that will be called home and when the shit hits the fan...move on, move on.

RockDaddy 01-22-2004 09:14 AM

Excellent advice, I've applied this to all areas of my life as well.

Didn't like my neighbors dog pooping in my yard, so I moved.
Didn't like my kids 3rd grade teacher, so I moved
Didn't like something my wife said, so I moved
Bastard mailman kept getting my mail mixed, so I moved
My kids got on my nerves, so I moved (left extra food out)

CDSmith 01-22-2004 09:15 AM

Bottom line is; when in doubt, move.

RockDaddy 01-22-2004 09:17 AM
