So, with Aly gone from AVN...
I'm curious to know what people think is going to happen over there.
Granted she wasn't a decision maker, but she was the bridge between webmasters and AVN. Remember the guest passes for Florida. Not perfect, but a solution nonetheless and one that wouldn't have been implemented had Aly not been there imo. I think she made them more credible and tolerable to some...if only for the short time she was there. Now, with all of the departures, and Aly jumping ship too, I'll be curious to see what the future holds. I've heard an increasing (if you can believe that) amount of derogatory talk about AVN and people that have supported them in the past are pulling the plug. I don't know that we're going to see Internext as big as it's been in the past, after Vegas in January that is. Perhaps even including Vegas. Maybe KB was right...and I HATE it when he's right. :winkwink: |
AVN will go under in 6 months
|
Ah, it is so tough to get in tough with anybody there. Paul is unreachable no matter what you try. I met him at the Venus 2 years ago where we invited the AVN crew as VIPs to our party. After that there was no contact and no getting through to anybody.
I like the magazine though. |

I never liked the way AVN dealt with people too much either... Hopefully somebody will be smart enough to pick it up from there.

Both of us love Aly deeply Ron - but honestly neither are going to suffer long term over this. Aly has a kickass job with http://www.thebestporn.com and I really dont think it had much to do with her being disenchanted with AVN.
AVN on the other hand has lost two great (Tina and Aly) people in a short amount of time, suspicious yes, but not unrealistic considering how many companies have high turnovers and Aly simply is one of the best and I am sure is still getting offers for other jobs - thebestporn.com is simply the best path for her at this time. Yet everyone AVN have a solid reputation as not a group that is dishonest or treating their people poorly and will be around for a long time to come. What likley will result is that Aly once again will rise to the top, AVN on the other hand will have a short timeline of raised eyebrows - but what will concern them more is how to handle the even increasing rise in ticket prices and fewer webmasters attending - opting for smaller venues to get business. I sincerely hope they find the right person(s) who is as diplomatic as Tina/Aly to handle the increasing backlash of rising show costs. |
i didnt catch that she left
she was the last good thing going for them, i hope she left them, and not the other way around. if so, it was the worste mistake they have made. |

WOW !!!!! are my eyes deceiving me? An intelligent non AVN bashing post ;) |

LOL.. and before you carry that thought out - I am not looking for a job either at AVN, I am extremely happy with retiring at webmaster paradise. :winkwink: btw - sorry about the typo's in that post.. was writing more out of passion than double checking for spelling errors and grammar. |

I've never had a problem with them and supported them on this very board, but a lot of people do have a problem with them. And from what I've heard on the grapevine lately, the exodus has only begun. My point was, I'm not sure if they're going to be able to stop the bleeding without Aly around to put out the fires. That ALONE was a full-time job around Internext, and it took someone HIGHLY respected to do the job. |

Just to clarify something for you Robert- Jennifer Rosenblatt- My sister in law was the VP of Sales for 9 yrs there- she is NO LONGER THERE Jeff Random/ AVN SALES- NO LONGER THERE Tom Hymes= Editor AVN ONLINE=NO LONGER THERE Kimberly Wilbur-AVN SALES= NO LONGER THERE There are many more- but these are the people that most would recognize from this board- AVN had a great run- but they'd have to be the most ignorant people in the world if they don't see their marketshare dwindling daily- The sad part is all it would have taken to correct a lot of their bullshit would have been a simple "thank you" phone call to their supporters and advertisers through the past year- Something I know my sister in law did plenty of when she was there. That's probably why everytime she goes to tradeshows she gets attacked by people telling her how bad AVN is now that she is no longer their and what a clusterfuck there office is now :-)) |

I think Aly was an invaluable asset and now they're going to need to fill that position or suffer.
|
and Jeff Random is gone too. He was by far the best sales and representative that AVN ever had. The guy was by far one of the best reps i have dealt with for any company in my long history of business in mainstream and adult. Our account with Rage suffered from his leaving AVN. It sucks when good people that you rely on leave companies that need them.

i still like farley and alex over there, but i am seriously thinking of pulling the plug for the fiasco that just happened with my print account. klixxx has stepped up and so has xbiz. this is neither a pro nor con finger pointing, this is a real scenario that i just had to live becuase no one over there could pick up jeff randoms rolodex when he left and call clients to say he was gone and see if we need anything, which we did.

AVN would do just fine if everyone on the internet site never attended a single show or advertised with them. They do well enough on the video side. We internet customers are secondary, always have been and always will be.
|
PS Tim Connelly - Editor of AVN is also no longer there
They'll tell you he is in rehab- but his contract is expiring, and no one is bothering to tell people it will not be renewed. He was really talented I hear...when it came to scoring cocaine. :1orglaugh |
Aly is one of the most professional and nicest people in this industry, she will do well with whatever company she chooses.

OMG... AVN is not going down, in fact i know some really cool shit is heading the way of the shows, they have been listening and making the adjustments that any biz makes on that level. I dont work for AVN but AVN has done some really cool and very nice things for Joe and I and Smashbucks ...i dont forget shit like that! Farley has always gone out of his way to find and do stuff for Smashbucks, we never ever even spent a dime with them until this next Nov issue. So it was not like "hey spend some money ...and i will hook you up" Its was always so very nice that Farley and AVN would go out of there way to help us..and I know for a fact we are not the only ones they do this kind of nice go out of your fucking way shit for. From what i see, and what i know and some things we are involved in at the next show, some very cool and great things are coming! Aly told me about her leaving at the Giga party...and you know what I would go work with Rick from the Best Porn, the guy is one of the smartest people in this biz...and a great guy. So for her to leave AVN and go with someone like that....No brainer....Its called moving up the ladder of life! Good for Aly, she rocks and Rick made the smart choice for sure! Hey I dont forget people that are good to us and go out of there way to help ...but that is just the way we are loyal! Oh and KB..i love you man...... :winkwink: |
I do not like any of the "Industry News Publications".
Both AVN and XBIZ have a "Pay to Play" attitude, both do silly awards shows that do not recognise shit unless money is spent. Advertising rates are through the roof, and the print is to garbled with ad's. To be honest I see the same evil elements in XBIZ comming out as AVN circa 1997. So I really do not know, and for the most part no longer care. I pay attention to the corners and movers and shakers before any of them have a clue in real time. |
Hi All
WOW Its got to be AVN Day today. I have dealt with Aly for a long time beore AVN and as we all know she does her job the right way. Also i have to say the same thing for Jeff as i only dealt with him via AVN. We cannot give our opinion on behalf of AVN for they move. As i have over 70 employees i can understand the decision they made. I have been dealing with AVN personally for over 3 years and i can only say they are top class company with a great service to they customers. Farley has a great drive and imagination with a lot of knowledge with the back up of AVN he is been working hard to achieve what the customers needs and he has delivered what he promised to me all ways. |
XBIZ has never shown me any egregious attitude- I know Gretchen, Alec, Stephen Y, and Don to be very gracious, humble people.
Mike Hawk- I love you too man! However to clarify something about your post- AVN may have helped you out over the past year or so, and while you may have considered it to be a benevolent gesture- they still smelled your money- If you didn't have any presence at the tradeshows, and people didn't like you, do you think you'd get the same attention? Let me simplify this even more, If you didn't advertise elsewhere do you think you'd get the same treatment? When I worked in radio, it was my job to solely prospect other radio stations to see who was advertising, and cold call them. You are no different than Cal Worthington- well maybe you are- you don't wear a cowboy hat. :-)) Also keep in mind, John Gotti may have been a criminal, a mobster, and a horrible person- but he also fed all the needy in his neighborhood every Thanksgiving- Did that make him a nice guy? To the morons who needed him it did. To most, he was still a scumbag. |

whatever. When was the last time you placed an ad for your company? In the local newspaper? As for paying attention to movers and shakers, it must be infuriating to be in the stands looking down on those "playing" |

AVN is making a FORTUNE off the video idiots, the internet means little to them. Do not kid yourself, they are making MILLIONS, and just do not get a fuck about the internet crowd.
|
Alien, for the record we never did any biz with xbiz, never advertised, and won an award.
We still do not advertise. |

going for a record? |

I think the position was filled http://fubarwebmasters.com/current/jbm05/mix/z20752.jpg Jenni Dahling is a smart, personable young lady that has great intentions and ideas. Whether AVN opts to pay attention is still left to be seen. |
For what it is worth, while never advertising in AVN online or print, we have had several press releases and interviews that have appeared in both, and they seem to be very effective.
We always get follow-up inquiries from their readers. |

It was a token on a venture less than a year old. Now for the life of me I can figure out why shirk an industry designer and his company that has been designing for 12 years and has designed some of the top affiliate programs tour sites today I do not know. Shit they happily nominated my clients! My concepts in design changed most tours to loosely what most are today. My concepts are gone to Mobile platforms, what design company has bragging rights that helped innovate the Adult Mobile Market? Hello... Hello anyone? I did that shit. |
