Thanks for the vote of confidence Baddog! I don't know if anyone would ever be able to fill the shoes of Aly or Jeff, but everyone has shown nothing but mad love to me since I dipped my toe into the adult internet pool in August... and I'm truly grateful for that!

Aly and AVN did a great job of listening to client feedback and trying new things at the show in Florida. I heard a lot of good comments from exhibitors that were happy at the show. Aly will do great at her new place, and I think AVN is on track as well.

I hope Jenni Dahling is a glutton for punishment- You'd have to be a sadist to thrive in her working conditions.
I wish her the best of luck and hope that her background included car sales or working for the Post Office.

It's the only other jobs that can compare as far as stress is concerned

CherryLipsRosa 10-14-2005 11:49 AM

It is a loss that Aly left but i am sure they will do well as long as people are still advertising with them.

I expect to see you pass me in post count in the next couple of months.

Aly and Tina are awesome people, but I will say that Jenni has been great to work with. She's been very professional, and has put up with my crap thus far.

I was really really pleasently surprised how Florida turned out. Except for the twink side of the pool, but aside from that it was great.

I agree with Mike Hawk, Ali just left for a better opportunity. AVN loses employees the same as other large corporations lose them, they just get put in the spotlight for it.

I have no idea what their intentions are for the future. In my opinion, they could make some adjustments to the shows that would vastly improve things; they could also do better in the way of communication; however, they aren't lighting cats on fire over there, that said, they are par for the course in this industry and all good in my book.

Seems lots of stones being thrown in glass houses when it comes to this industry...

AVN is just fine by me and I don't they are going out of biz anytime soon no matter what KB says...

They are completely receptive to ideas for improving shows. How many people here have ever picked up the dang phone and called anyone at internext to discuss their issues?

We made an arrangement with them to discount passes for amateurs so don't give me the "all they care about is money" crap because it simply is not true.

True, but as Peaches said, it's more because of the video side. I don't think they're going out of business, but I could see future Internext shows attendance dwindling to the point that there's no incentive for exhibitors or advertisers.

I've never bought into that argument. They have the right to make money as we're all trying to do here. Well some of us at least. I don't begrudge them that at all.

Sly 10-14-2005 01:11 PM

I would like to start a tally of how many people claim they will never go to another AVN show yet go anyway. Or how about a tally of the people acting cool by saying "I'll never go to an AVN show!" yet they never go to ANY shows anyway.

Its really pretty simple. If you enjoy the AVN shows and take business away from them, by all means, go! If you hate the shows and don't take away any business, stay home and bitch about the evil empire that is AVN.

I'll stop going to the Vegas AVN show when I stop having a blast. Do you see that happening anytime soon?

I tend to disagree with Peaches and in my mind the statement "they only care about the video side" is urban myth at best...

To illustrate my point:

AVN ONLINE... the magazine and the site. The focus is on the web industry. They have been around for years and consistently improved.

Internext... the show is still the biggest webmaster draw attendance-wise and caters to the greatest variety of web entrepeneurs. Renee I know for a fact is highly concerned with making the shows affordable and profitable to attendees.

Competing shows and trade rags... they all take shots at AVN because it is undeniably the "400 lb gorilla" and they want to pluck the bananas from the same money tree. The ego factor is huge and every time someone feels slighted by AVN and/or Internext then they run off saying "well I am not going to come back and I will start my own show blah, blah, blah..."

Good post. This isn't rocket science, if you don't enjoy the business, don't advertise or purchase booths / badges.

Nice post. I don't agree 100% with your assessment of competing with Internext, but a good post nonetheless.

Matt Collins 10-14-2005 01:55 PM

I have worked with Renee for years and I have never had a complaint. I was glad to see Aly at AVN because she was truly "one of us" and was accessible. She was also someone I had been friends with for years also and was comfortable talking to her.

While there are certainly a lot of companies like Far-L's that are on both the video and internet side, I am sure he sees how they approach both industries and can speak from a different vantage point than most of us and I respect his opinion.

The bottom line is AVN runs a business and its in their interest to improve and grow their business, whether the internet side is the "second most important" division or not. Saying they don't care about the internet side is like saying BradShaw doesn't love his JBM just because SIC Cash is bigger. As a businessman, I just find that logic hard to believe.

I know Aly will be successful in her new venture and I am also sure AVN will continue to be successful also.

Whether AVN opts to pay attention is still left to be seen.

Far-L

I don't recall ever saying that AVN is going out of business- I said their marketshare is dwindling.
Let's put the internet aside for a sceond-

Have you seen some of the ads and stories written about in XBIZ?
Perhaps the ads for Digital Playground, or stuff on KBeech and Sin City recently?

When people from the video side of the buiz are starting to buy ads in XBIZ- a primarily Adult/ Internet resource magazine it tells you something-

AVN isn't reaching the people these companies need to be more successful.

And FAR-L you know that Samantha is a very close friend of Paul's...

Far-L that magazine has turned sucko since Tom Hymes left his psoition- he was one of the few who knew what the hell he was talking about.
There is no way you can tell me that the magazine has consistently improved-

Next you are going to tell me they have more ads then when Jen was working there?
