What are you going to do about this 2257 shit?
 

The new 2257 regulations go in effect in less than a month. My question is: What are your plans to comply?

The new requirements were published in the Federal Register on June 25, 2004; the public will have a chance to comment on them until August 24. Then the regulations come out then you have 30 days to comply. So its around September 25 th. Its good to get your records in order but the final regs could be different.

I'm not worried one bit. Granted I don't own a single image or video either, so I was never worried to begin with.

We're getting everything in order according to the new proposed regulations.
Might as well be ready for something that may never come than to not be prepared and get fucked.

I live in the UK but use americas servers i'm not sure what to do yet if I live in the UK why should I comply just because I host in the states?

I know, I've been delaying it for too long. I've been rather ignorant about it seeing that the stuff I've always hosted has been censored making sure no cumshots or penetration are shown. I still do need to take the time and review the proposed changes but to be perfectly honest, I'm not particularly worried. Especially with my new SE stuff, a lot of it is just redirection directly to video based tours which is the main reason I've been delaying it. My older stuff would definitely be applicable though.

I give a shit. the whole thing is BS. non-US residents simply do not care. no new US regulation can change this fact.

The trouble with taking to lawyers - if you talk to three of them - you are likely to get three different opinions.

Try putting an accountant that works for you, a tax-attorney and a federal auditor all in the same room to figure out your taxes. They all come back with three different results. Seems my accountant always has the best numbers though :)

Talking to my lawyer next week about it. Every lawyer is going to have different opinions and solutions I would imagine. So while Person A may be told to get the fuck out of dodge, Person B will be told to sit tight and find a workable solution.

I'm not too worried just yet. If I need to drastically change the way I do things, I will. It's not as if there are many options.

You don't need 2257 information for just a naked pic. Now if they're touching themselves in a sexual way or if they're fucking someone, that's different.

WHat about AVS sites? Technically.. the webmaster own the site (content) but the signup money and signup page is owned by the AVS network... You are in a way, an affiliate to your own site and their AVS network...

What about ripped DVDs? Nobody will be able to get the documentation for each models..

Yeah, that's true. He got a lot of points from me on that remark.

Bottom line is: The reg will go into effect on 8/24. Then we have 30 days to comply, so that's 9/24. If on 11/3 Bush loses the election and becomes a lame duck -- Asshat will probably take a few parting shots at the industry before he goes back to losing elections to dead men. Then, maybe, the country will return to some sanity.
