This shit is so fucked up. But I guess we will see soon who has been responsible with their record keeping and whos not

Also a good point. Should every webmaster in America have Paris Hilton's address? Seems like it would do more harm than good. How do you think the Hiltons would feel about this?

Fact is - this law is about getting easy access free porn off the net.

Bush needs to go.

Shoehorn! 07-30-2004 06:20 PM

I am going to have my attorney go over this shit with a fine tooth comb and try to be as compliant as possible. If that's too hard them I am off to Europe. :2 cents:

grand 07-30-2004 07:52 PM

what about gallery makers using sponsors content? can't we link to the sponsors 2257 page?

also, anyone have a link for more info?

That is a possible "poor man's solution", but does not make you compliant.

slapass 07-30-2004 08:20 PM

If it is sponsor content don't we just link the sponsor 2257 page?

(Oops read the whole thread then reply)

Being a non-us webmaster definently has it's advantages. There is some language in the new 2257 that states "if you are involved in commerce in the US" then you are expected to comply. Like I said, not being in the US is good...ah,err...it's not like we're just going to come over to your part of the world to shove our beliefs down your throat...

Or will we?

You remember what happened in Iraq? Right?

Even if linking to their 2257 info is sufficient for ID purposes (which I don't think it is bec. you are still a "secondary producer" ) you are still required to have a DB cross referencing every URL that each model appears on.

In short: the goal is to shut down any freely accessible porn by making record keeping nearly impossible. For that matter "freely accessible" doesn't even cover it, right? its any appearance on your domains, public or not.

What about a "grandfather clause"????? Is this only for newly published shit or for anything thats out there at all? I keep hearing differing answers on that point.

That is the million dollar question.

It's is my opinion that there is no "grandfather clause".

Fuck adult, I've come to realize that mainstream is much easier money... and more money too.

Rochard 07-30-2004 08:42 PM

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN ID FOR EVERY FUCKING PHOTO YOU HAVE ON YOUR SITE YOU HAD BETTER LEAVE THE COUNTRY.

NOW.

It's not a problem really. All you need to do is add some new information in your records. Simple.

Yeah, that's true. He got a lot of points from me on that remark.

Bottom line is: The reg will go into effect on 8/24. Then we have 30 days to comply, so that's 9/24. If on 11/3 Bush loses the election and becomes a lame duck -- Asshat will probably take a few parting shots at the industry before he goes back to losing elections to dead men. Then, maybe, the country will return to some sanity.

Vote Kerry.

Amen :thumbsup

Sure and I bet you're getting ready to send a copy of Tawnee Stone's ID and model release to all of your affiliates right?

r3ap3r 07-30-2004 10:54 PM

I think everyone is worrying for nothing. TGP sites will not die because of the law and porn will live on no matter what regulations the AG dishes out. Once these regulations are law businesses will spring up that will help webmaster comply. That's how the business world works. When there is a need to be filled then businesses will try to fill that need. When Content Providers and Sponsors start to comply them the little people will find it easier.

With regards to people trying to move shit overseas. This will not work. You live in the US; therefore, you are bounded to the law.
People who live outside of the US will find it a little easier becuase we are not bounded by US law. For example, the only laws I know about in Canada are the Obscenity and Child Porn Laws. Canada's CP laws are alot tougher then US laws.

Basically, everything will take shape when the time gets closer. Sit tight. Relax.

Trax 07-31-2004 03:15 AM

I am as worried / relaxed as everyone else here
I am really curious what will happen to the good old TGP galleries and alike

but I have a secondary plan if everything else falls apart.
I am not giving up on what I have do for so much time.

The problem is -- I've bought licensed legal content many a time from legit providers -- never once have they offered me the models ID...never mind two of them. From people I've talked to on the production side -- they say there is no way they can do that for privacy reasons.

It's totally catch 22.

I don't host any trailers, video tours are redirected to the sponsor directly in order to comply with Acacia.

Acaicia is slightly scarey, but nowhere near what is going on with 2257...

But I hope you guys, that the last option becomes true :winkwink:

I ain't worried about it. That's why I use original toons. Don't have to fill out forms, pay for lunch, grant raises and listen to complaints.

Low overhead lifestyle.

MasterBlogger 08-01-2004 03:52 PM

SexEducation.com will continue to host it's domains and servers in the United States BECAUSE they have the strictest laws anywhere in the world with regards to protecting the "models/actors".

Any two-cent wanna be pimp can take advantage of a female with a substance addiction.

With the explosion of the internet - a new form of rape emerged - called "Audition Rape". Quite simply - an 18 year old "child" is coerced into something they're not ready for.

Paul Ekman was a Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California at San Francisco for 32 years and used 1/25 of second frame by frame analyis of video to determine if someone was lying.

Having done the same - for many of the original sex videos distributed on the early internet - it became obvious certain types of behaviour (eg. anal sex) was not "enjoyable" by the majority of participants AND that even the editing of some videos could not hide the fact the female participants were raped.

Not only (I suspect - have not fully read the new 2257 changes) should 2257 be toughened up by the authorities - they need to go after - and put in jail - assisted by Paul Ekman's science - those who took advantage of the many unsuspecting women.

2257 - YA - MEGA KEWL !!!
"No aroused genitals or reproductive fluids on any directly accessed domain name."

http 08-01-2004 04:51 PM

I have close to 1 GB of banners and no other images. The point is it is I*M*P*O*S*S*I*B*L*E to get 2257 for even a 1/100 of these. If the new regulation goes into effect (I guess it will) I'll just remove all banners from the servers. Less bandwidth too....woohoo

Will be interesting to see the effect on click throughs and sales. I may just end up earning more through this but I am not that sure lol

I'd rather not have to go through this experiment of text only sites

I doubt that with the highest 'D'. Even the Supereme Court wouldn't tackle with us artists. It would be the most foolhardy of attempts.

You have to understand, cartoonists, political cartoonists have been our most effective weapon against tyranny. We took down King George, Boss Tweed, Hitler, Nixon and we keep on rolling and with the net we're more powerful.

People don't always read, but they sure as hell understand a cartoon.

As this law is laid out, it would be stupid to attacfk a guy for a bannder ad.

As for the 'We must protect the women from the evil rapist content producer' that's bullshit.

What we need to do is protect each model from themselves and their stupid assed choices of friends and associates..

I helped change laws across the country regarding battered women and as I type am handling a murder case of a friend who may have been another victim of long term abuse.

The one thing that has never failed to amaze me is how women, in the U.S. granted the right to choose their friends and associates, so that they 'wouldn't' end up beaten, raped and taken advantage of, make bee lines to the same savage asswipes the laws were laid out to protect them from. Given half the chance women will still actively pursue a man without checking his background, without considering his character and associates and base their choices on his 'looks' and ' gee won't my friends think he's cool '.

This new law is cool that the government is showing it cares but it's only a band aid on a gaping wound: Hole In The Fucking Head.

I hate to ruin it for you all but after Kerry gets elected in November, the republicans will still run congress and be the opposition party.

The last "child protection (not)" anti-porn bill passed congress 99 to 1, with all the democrats voting for it too.

Even more in a Kerry administration, the democrats can't risk being seen as "soft on porn" so they will join the republicans in the battle - or risk a 1 term presidency.

Time to move to Russia. At least they don't ban porn and you can still get a politician hit for under 20 ruples.
