Canadians, do you sometimes dream you were an American citizen instead?

with all its attendent benefits and prestige?

Jakke PNG 05-04-2004 11:31 AM

Yeah, like free healthcare and low crimerate.

boardersweetie 05-04-2004 11:32 AM

I'm american and I want to live in Canada, does that count?

Rebel D 05-04-2004 11:32 AM

Never. Canadians are In My Opinion the Best epople in the World. I would never ever think for a second of Changing. Any Canadians that Do Can freely Leave. But none will.

Oracle Porn 05-04-2004 11:32 AM

emmanuelle 05-04-2004 11:35 AM

um....

NFW!!

zzgundamnzz 05-04-2004 11:37 AM

Must be cool to live in Canada. I got family there and they always talk about going to the denstist, hospital for free.

But then again Candada can afford that cause instead of paying for a military they could put the funds into healthcare.

We can't do that in the US :(

Can I ask what inspired this question?

I am Canadian btw and the answer is no.

doober 05-04-2004 11:41 AM

America is a great country and there a still a few freedoms left but most of the good ones are gone.

Canada on the other hand is a very chillaxed place and we dont seem to feel the need to control what the rest of the world is doing.

We help if and where we can....after that we just live and let live.

:thumbsup

tbabe 05-04-2004 11:42 AM

No, but you probably gotta live in a pretty shitty country to dream of living in a different one.

Finland is great except for the weather. I *hate* winter.
I also hate the huge taxes and expensive goods, but I love the country.

...I'm moving the fuck out of here when/if I graduate. :)

directfiesta 05-04-2004 11:45 AM

Just when I am in a suicidal mood ... But knowing I don't have to be american cheers me back up :thumbsup

RicardoB 05-04-2004 11:46 AM

I'm sure they do dream that every once in a while.

But then they wake up all wet and sweaty and say thank god it was only a nightmare :1orglaugh

LadyMischief 05-04-2004 11:46 AM

No fucking way. I love being Canadian, thanks. I'm sure being American has it's merits, and my mother is an American born and bred, but I'm quite content where I am thanks.

bufferover 05-04-2004 11:47 AM

No that's kind of dream is called nightmare

sherie 05-04-2004 11:49 AM

LOL dream? Not bloody likely. Who dreams of having their rights and freedoms stripped away piece by piece? Not many I would imagine.

Axeman 05-04-2004 11:50 AM

The one major benifit of the US is that you can live in any climate that you want. In canada you got Victoria and Vancouver if you dont like the snow. But you get the rain and cold still.

That could change though if that caribbean island becomes part of canada as they are talking about.

mahoney 05-04-2004 11:52 AM

Why would they ? They have Health Care, The High Octane Beer and Way better Strip Clubs then We do :2 cents:

TheLegacy 05-04-2004 11:56 AM

If nothing else what makes us Canadians is our pride that we are not Americans

benefits?? setting aside health care and that we dont have bush in power but the prestige?? seriously, why do so many americans walk around with a canadian lapel pin?? When travelling they dont want to be known as americans for fear of being shot at. They get treated better when thought of as being canadians. Not much prestige in getting shot at now is there??

We love americans - even the arrogant mis-informed ones like you Darkjedi

your partly right actually overall health between the two countries being canada is #1 seeing the health care plans are better.. canada doesn't need a fulltime army seeing the USer's will always back canadians up.. after all they are using/eating our resources up 'water' ect like candy it's a back scratching affair also we were fucked on the *freetrade* scam too..
it's a (tit for tat) thing they need us we need them sorta?

canada is cleaner place and a great place for out door life if your into it also realestate is cheaper amongst other things there's some places I do enjoy in the states but I don't think i'd want to hang my hat there long term probably there's more interest for me in other countries (EU)ect...

my opinion:2 cents:

Only in your own mind. There's a reason US journalists and tourists wear Canadian flags. It must suck to be embarrassed of your own country. No wonder so many Americans feel the need to try to convince themselves of untruths on a daily basis.

iFliPcEss 05-04-2004 12:31 PM

they always say that US is the land of opportunity so..

I wish I am a citizen of US :thumbsup

Ok let me digest this question for a sec.... Alright! We have free health care, clean cities and water, hockey just to name a few. And the U.S. has the worlds laughing stock George W. Bush. I think i will stay canadian thanks!![

What most people don't realize is, our military isn't THAT pathetic. Our ships and subs are, but we have troops to stop any would be renegade attack against us. We have troops to deal with native uprisings, even potential riots or whatever. We have planes to shoot down hijacked airliners, like the one that got intercepted by 2 CF-18s last week. In America having 20 million fucking F-16's doesn't help when your "President" lets attacks happen instead of shooting down hijacked planes.

We don't have an offensive army, because guess what, we don't invade countries. We don't have an army to fight in a world war, because guess what, we don't start world wars. During WWII we kicked serious ass. In Afghanistan we're kicking serious ass today. During 1812 we kicked YOUR ass. America should have standard health care too like every other civilized nation, but Republicans would rather play star wars. :1orglaugh

I was down in Mazatlan back in march and this chick I met on the beach we bumped into each other and as soon as I asked her where she was from she said LA but her mom was from Vancouver so she is a (reborned canadian) this is what she called herself? I asked here how many drinks shes had..

she looked pretty sweet but alittle mixed up!:1orglaugh

I think if I lived in the USA probably I'd be in jail by now from shooting someone? some of them are pretty darn stupid..:NopeNope

I can't think of a single reason why I'd rather live in the US than Canada.

Unless there was some very amazing offer of money or power or something silly, I'd never move there.

SleazyDream 05-04-2004 12:50 PM

never, i'll always be a canadian.

but i may end up moving somewhere warmer to live in the usa some day, i'll always keep a home in canada though.

Phoenix 05-04-2004 12:50 PM

my sister tells me some americans she has travelled with stitch canadian flags onto their backpacks etc....i wonder why:Graucho

look at it another way alot of movie celebs are buying here (vancouver bc) and investing in huge amounts of realestate like myself.. the only attraction from the USA is the money earnings I can hit the exchange rate and bank it and invest it here in canada.. the taxes in CAL is horrible and probably the only place I would maybe want to live in is florida now thats a 'slim maybe'..
:2 cents:

serious 05-04-2004 12:52 PM

i think id rather live in canada

how hard is it to become a canadian citizen?

fuzebox 05-04-2004 12:55 PM

Yes, and then I wake up in a cold sweat.
