4. I ONLY WISH I WAS AMERICAN!

I can be a fat, lazy, cheeseburger eating, hich school drop out, racist red neck that requires an American flag be placed every few hunderd feet because I might forget what country I live in with an arrogance to believe that there are only two types of people in this world, those that are American and those that wish they were and have nothing better to do except swill bad beer, smoke imported Canadian pot and bitch about my rights to own assult weapons while being an annoying over paid loud mouth.

. I consider Canadians to be my cousins. Which is a little bit twisted, because my ex-husband's parents are Canadian, so does that make my feelings for Canadians somehow, twistedly incestuous? It's just terribly confusing. My ex mom, dad and sis-in-law were born in Ontario. Ex hubby and bro were born in Ohio. I guess it's a miracle that family stayed together at all...

And this is where it all breaks down for me...Canadians vs. Americans is about as sensible as Oklahomans vs. Texans. Yeah, Texas has better tax laws, better freeways and a better parks department. BFD. Texans are still bigger assholes than Okies, and every Texan AND Oklahoman knows that. We lived in peace (more or less).

There's a whole, what, ten-foot border between us? Face it, Canucks, we're the same. More or less. Get over the superiority complex.

And herein lies one thing that unites all Canadians. The fact that we are quick to point out to anyone we are not Americans.

Having once lived in the United States and having once been married to an American, it is very insluting the way Americans think of us as "America Junior." One point that always pissed me off was the way Americans all used to point out that 70% of the Canadian population was close to the boarder. However I was always quick to point out that 80% of that 70% lived in Ontario and Quebec so that must mean we like New York State the best. . (Truth be known it had more to do with initial settlement along the Saint Lawerence.)

There is a boarder there for a reason and Americans need to remember that. Our country is ours and your country is yours. Do whatever you like in yours and we will do whatever we want in ours.

If you are worried that terrorists are getting into your country via Canada then stick a tank on your side. Since they leave us alone I don`t see a problem. Why the hell should Canada spend money to make Americans feel safer. Also don`t forget that the USA is quick to close the boarder to our trade whenever it is convient for it and this despite a trade agreement.

The thing is, I know I come across as being very anti-american and the truth is I never had a problem with Americans until I lived with them. And having once been married to a very liberal minded man from Washington state didn`t help either. (Thank Gawd I never bore the man`s kids.)

In the end it wasn`t just him, it was the entire American experience. The constant prejudice, constant categorizing, constant competition, constant assualt of intelligence and elevation of moronic behaviour, etc ,etc ,etc. Finally I packed my bags and said "enough of the fucking bull, your shit stinks just as bad as the rest of us."

Interesting enough my ex followed me back across the boarder and he didn`t even survive a year in Burnaby. He packed his bags and went home. Granted there was problems in our relationship but most of them were because our cultures would clash.

Pain in the ass

True, we're not much different, we just tend to be a little more relaxed because our streets are not as crowded as in the US. I really don't see huge differences, no matter what other Canadians say and I sure don't have a superiority complex. For some people the US might suit them best, for others Canada might suit them best.
