They're gonna redraw the borders of Iraq so that US bases are no longer officially inside Iraq?

Oh wait, they already did something similar when they supposedly withdrew from major cities...

Smart move politically, they have been waiting to announce this for 6 months but had to wait until Gadhafi was either killed or captured. After all he has to do something to drum up support for his failed presidency and what better way than to take credit for killing Gadhafi one day and announcing the troop withdraw from Bushs Iraq cluster fuck the next day.

I was not aware Obama is part of adult industry :D

Let's pray that Iraq does not backslide.

really doesn't matter as long as they come home. and in his words they will be home. so no moving of troops to other countries or anything like that. Less than 150 will remain.

Perhaps he set up an "Iraq withdrawal Trigger", like a stop-loss sell order. When his popularity got down to a certain level, then it triggers, and he pop this out!

1) They are going to need troops in Iran soon.

2) Everyone fails to mention the insane amount of private military contractors (mercenaries) working in Iraq, and as troops pull out, they bring in more mercenaries.

3) He's going to pull out every stop he can while trying to get reelected.

So they're completely withdrawing all regular military and moving to a fully privatized blackwater style mercenary army? Or did I misread that?

I wonder if they will just increase the number of privateers.

Sounds like great minds think alike. Good news for our troops and their families, bad news for Iraq when they realize that we were actually trying to help them, hope they can learn to speak Persian quickly, I don't think they have the infrastructure to keep them being invaded by Iran.

Wasn't that always the plan Bush had?

We have to stay behind and do arm sales so they are a threat again in 10 years after another dictator takes over.

One day you will learn that the policies set by presidents are usually not immediately felt.

I remember Bush saying "The Democrats goal is to get out of Iraq. The Republican goal is to win in Iraq."

He was pretty strong headed on making sure we stay the course, even after the election. However he did, more than once, pull troops from Iraq, some home and others to Afghan. But after Obama was elected, Iraq started to demand a time-line to get U.S. forces out... because Bush didn't create one.

Iran invades Iraq, spreading the Iranian forces thin.

Iraq neighbors help out minimally, spreading the Iranian forces thinner.

American forces attack Iran from the East in Afghanistan, we have had 10 years of mountain training!

Naval forces attack from the South as Iran's Navy is on Iraq's border.

American forces head to Iraq from the West and South (Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia) to beat down wounded Iranian army.

At Iran's bidding, Syria tries to play cute and unleashes Hezbollah and Hamas. Turkey becomes concerned while Israel has a field day. Meanwhile, CIA equips Syrians to take on their government.

Sounds like fun!
