Which car for $100k

If you had $100k to spend and were looking for a sports car or GT car that could do 0-60 in less than 4.5 seconds, but could also be used most days to drive to the office and back which one would you choose.

Would be better if car was pre-owned less than 1yr with under 10k miles on it...

I like the Bentley Continental GT however you would be pushed to get even a 2008 for $100k....

k0nr4d 08-16-2010 05:38 AM

Nissan GTR. Fast, not your everyday car, and practical.

not so sure the Bentley gt will do 0-60 in under 4.5. the reviews I read placed the car in the 'dog' category for 'zippieness' I would get a corvette zo6 or the new 'caddilac cts coupe V'

Altwebdesign 08-16-2010 06:18 AM

ferrari, prob a 360 but a 430 if you can get it for that these days

ottopottomouse 08-16-2010 06:26 AM

The Bentley is a bit common. See about 4 EVERY time I go out even for a short drive.

GTR

AM V8 Vantage - 2 years old maybe

I have a 2004 Mustang Cobra, 0-60 in 4.1 seconds stock, which sold for about $40k or $45k new. However, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. My car is a beast, and as a daily driver it's a horrible car.

Worry less about speed and get a nice car. Someone will always have a faster car than you, always. And at a certain point fast acceleration is over rated - great, you can to the next stoplight and slam on you breaks five seconds faster than a mini van. Big deal.

justinsain 08-16-2010 07:42 AM

I'd get an Audi R8 :thumbsup

Bentleys are all over the place now. I'd go for something a little more exotic :)

he said 100k, your car is worth about 10k.

james_clickmemedia 08-16-2010 09:49 AM

I would say the car brands I hate the most and would never consider buying are :

Ford
GM ( pontiac, chevy etc.)

I also have a real hatred of Mustang's, Nissan 350z, infiniti g35/37 35's & anything with an exhaust the size of a trash can...
Not saying they are bad cars in respect of the Nissan ( the mustang is a p.o.s.) but the people that drive them a ass holes.

Nicky 08-16-2010 09:51 AM

Audi R8
Corvette ZR1
Maserati GranTurismo

Jeppe 08-16-2010 09:57 AM

BMW M6. Nuff said. You could virtually get a new one for $100k.

2009 997 turbo less than a year old is a great car and can be had for around $100k
I believe it has the dual clutch box which is great.

It would be out of warranty for that money and from experience repair bills at Porsche are expensive. Good thing is there is not much to go wrong on them and when they are under warranty they don't squabble over anything and you get treated well.

Best customer service I have had from any brand of car.

Worse is Ferrari & MB....

KillerK 08-16-2010 10:31 AM

The r8 is like 170k

i have my porsche since almost 9 years, in total it's 17 years old now. yes, repair is usually a bit more expensive, on the other hand depreciation is much less than for most other cars. and they are very reliable. and they have style. ;)

the V8 version can be had for 100K with 3000 KM. and it's not a rough car Dave, it's actually more liveable than my current 911 C4S. can't wait to get it.

quiet 08-16-2010 10:39 AM

and yes, i know you own around 50 sports cars :)

My wife has one. It's pretty rough. But I don't know how the 911 Rides. That's a sweet ride too.

Such high acceleration speed is not needed.

I'll agree with that. In the 3 1/2 years I had my porsche it never went wrong. The only problem I had was the finish on the gear box surround kept wearing off. I found out it was my fault for hanging an air freshener from it. They replaced it both times under warranty.

In contrast all 3 of the BMW's I have owned have always had little issues. On my my current 535 the passenger side seat belt warning light keeps coming on even when no passenger is in the car, plus the drivers side mirror is out of alignment slightly. Both these will be fixed under the factory warranty when I take it in to get the brakes replaced ( under free maintenance program) later this month.

Also the rear tires only last 18 months before they are worn out. Does not matter how you drive as you cannot rotate them as the car has a staggered setup you can only expect to get 20k miles on the rears. Fronts should be good for 35-40k miles though...

hehe - my rear tires usually last for 2 seasons, i only drive the car between March and November. Maybe 15k miles max. in that timeframe - and every time $650 to replace them. :disgust
front tires seem to last forever, i replace them every 5 years.
but i love to go fast and since i am actually allowed to on the german autobahn, i can't resist :)

1 year old M6 for sure... M5 if you like a sedan

You might be able to find a S63 for about $100k used but might be 2 years old

dyna mo 08-16-2010 12:31 PM

in the future, when people want to point their fingers and laugh at chris bangle and his horrible designs, they will look to the 6 series as the quintessential example.
