I'd buy a really nice 1yr old Corvette, a nice new Harley and put $35k in the bank. Win!

datatank 08-16-2010 01:51 PM

I wish I was as passionate about something as Rochard is about that stang.

I get your thinking but a 1 yr old plastic car with the feel & handling of your living room couch :)
The only good thing about a corvette is the fit and finish is so bad you can store your Iphone between the interior plastic panels.

I'm not crazy about Corvettes myself, but buy something used for around 50K, and save the rest of your money. You will get bored of whatever you are buying quick.

Like the rest of the world, it's always better to want, then to have.
Also, with the money you will be saving, you can buy a new couch too. :1orglaugh

Most, if not all, of the below have already been mentioned but for me:

Audi R8
Aston Marton V8 Vantage
Ferrari F430 Coupe

chronig 08-16-2010 02:19 PM

M6 is pretty sick but I think I'd still take the Bentley... unless it's too "common" now... I live in Colombia - virtually no nice cars here

Has anyone said CTS-V? FFS it will destroy nearly everything in this thread with groceries in the trunk and people sitting comfortably in the back seats. And for less. Modern day terminator :2 cents:

I'm pretty sure your wrong... been driving a vette for 5 years on a daily basis and couldn't be happier. another thing is as a photographer I am able to load a good amount of gear in the car as well as drive down power line roads in the mountains without issue. been down many many dirt roads that would eat an 'exotic' alive. I have 127K on the car with regular maintenance, the only issue that as come up is cam and crank sensor. I get 25+ mpg on the hwy and about 16 mpg around town and when I kick the car in the ass it moves out pronto. very very very comfortable to drive as well... done plenty of 400+ mile days. and that's all for 40k new... :2 cents:

replacing. i live in the mountains, so it's a Subaru for the winters, and (a soon to be) R8 for the summers. hard to justify two sports cars. our downhill/xc/town bikes are worth around 25K, and get more use lol ;)

Minte 08-16-2010 04:18 PM

New-Porsche 911C4 Cab- loaded a tick under 100k
Used-Aston-Martin DB9,there are some 08 low mileage around for 100k.

X37375787 08-16-2010 05:34 PM

I say hold off another few months and go with the new M5. Twin turbo V8 with 560+ horseys. You know you'll want it. It's what I'll do after NYC as our second car.

You speak words of wisdom :winkwink:

A long time ago me and two friends took a surf trip to Oahu and part of our plan was to go fishing for marlin. We checked out the charter boats and it was the wrong time for marlin fishing so we passed on that which left us extra spending money.

We kept passing this exotic car rental in Honolulu and decided to get us a car instead of a Marlin. They had a few nice ones and we settled for a Mondial Ferrari which is a 2+2 cabriolet and 12 cylinders of power.

So we got it for a one day rental ( $300 ) and decided we would take it all the way around Oahu for a scenic drive. We fought hard over who would get to drive it first and then took turns along the way.

By the time we got to the North Shore we were all tired of driving the dam thing :) The clutch was super stiff and you had to stand on it every shift. That will wear you out. The cool factor had already worn off and now we were fighting over who would be stuck driving it back :1orglaugh

I will say that later that night I took it out and drove it around Honolulu and it was very cool driving it with the top down and hearing that engine sing between the towering buildings.

So I'm with you that the cool factor wears off pretty fast and I got all I needed out of a one day rental :thumbsup

big fan of the supercharged vette motor... love torque. don't much care for motors that develope TQ/HP at higher revs... love that pull at 1.5K and up. porches and the eyeti car don't have that..

damnage 08-16-2010 06:22 PM

Honda S2000. Sure its waaaaaaaaay below your budget but they are ENORMOUS fun, stick like shit on the road and have basis of sensibility. Ladies like them as well :-0

yeah I'm not usually driving around at 187 MPH, but I sure do like to be across the street after the light turns green, going 40mph in less than 2 seconds, without any drama. :2 cents:

Great story,
My friends alway tell me, my dream car is this, or this. Someday I want to own a whatever. I tell them, go spend 1000 bucks, rent it for two days. And you will be over it on to a new dream.

Thanks for the story, so funny. :1orglaugh

Unless you are a collector, I think spending that much on a car is just ridiculous - and I am saying that from experience, not jealousy. I drove the M6 and it is certainly not worth it in my book. My S4 audi cab was way more fun to drive and about 30k less, plus I got way more game on it from a purely egotistical point of view... and since ego is one huge factor in paying that much for a car that certainly is relevent.

More importantly though... what is the point of asking such a question on GFY? Like how many people here can actually afford such a thing?

Wouldn't that question be better put to a car enthusiast board? I mean you aren't trying to prove to everyone here that you make more $$$ than them are you?

:winkwink:

Don't get me wrong it great value for $40k. My problem is the fit and finish, handling and engineering shows where they cut corners.
What's also strange is where you see corvettes in the country. When I lived in Westlake village, CA I did not see many corvettes on the road however here in Dallas I see quite a few. Same in IL. I guess it's more of a mid western / southern car....

I love the Aston Martin DB9, a classic GT car. Fast enough to be fun, yet not so hardcore that is cannot be used as a daily driver....

The question I asked was "which car for $100k"?

Would be better if car was pre-owned less than 1yr with under 10k miles on it...

I like the Bentley Continental GT however you would be pushed to get even a 2008 for $100k....

Nowhere above did I say I was going to spend $100k on a car I just asked if one had $100k to spend and wanted a certain type of car which one would you choose? I also put in the pre-owned part as it puts more cars into the mix that is purchased new would exceed the 100k limit.

Thanks for your concern but I been in this business since 1998 and if I wanted to brag about how much money I am making I would have done so in 2001 when it would have been worth bragging about!

yeah see lots and lots of old camero's in central and northern cally, as far the vette goes... is it really worth 60k to pull .5 gees more in corner? and never drive another dirt road? not to me... one road I like in lockwood valley as no bridges, you've got to drive through the water when the creeks are running or go back the way you came... about 25 miles... it's a totally awesome road that will NEVER see an exotic car, it's vette country for sure though

yes the vette has issues "ass happy' being one of them, 'under steer' being another... the interiors are much better these days and my interior is fine after 5+ years, the vette is probably the most reliable car I've ever had. had several Toyota's in the past. and I'm pretty sure whatever you are driving around is 'cheap plastic crap' to bunch of people :2 cents:

I was chattting with a guy that has a turbo porche and an aston martin as well as the vette. he drives the vette on a daily basis... up to 170 at times... total wild man for sure. i once raced jay leno in my vette againt his old lambo, we hit 130+, he didn't pull off and leave me :)

I didn't know you could get an Aston Martin for $110K so I'm switching from the R8
to the Aston Martin. :)
