I was going to say just fly in to avoid the toll but SFO is in San Mateo County although the city owns it.

They said taxis would be exempt.

People will just congest the local streets that connect Daly City to SF to avoid tolls.

Why not make it free to get in, $100 to leave? Sounds like the sort of things these scumbags often do.

If it's anything like London it will cost a fortune to set up and that $3 will be $10 after 2 years.

It is still significantly cheaper than entering The City from the north (Golden Gate Bridge) or the east (Oakland-Bay Bridge). Not sure why Daly City is getting their panties in a wad.

I was going to say the same thing. I visited there several years ago and entered into the city from Oakland and it seems like it ended up costing me about $6 in toll bridges.

I would imagine that hurting a lot of retail business for San Francisco. I grew up in Daly City (by DC Bart) and would always head to SF to shop, eat, etc. because it was right there.

If I was craving Mitchell's ice cream, I might just end up going to Baskin Robins or something local. I guess on the flip side it could also improve retail business in Daly City.

Ah well, I live in Vegas now.

Bridges are more of a control point. There is no way for SF to enforce this toll entering SF from the Peninsula. People will just exit before the toll point and take side streets to the next exit north of the toll.

That's not true. If you live in Marin you pay $5 a day to cross the bridge to the city with FasTrak and pay nothing on the way out. If you live in Daly City you'll pay $6 a day ($3 each way).

The people that live in those area on the border are going to suffer the most with the congestion both ways twice a day.

No doubt. If they just put tolls on the major roads people are going to be hopping off 101 onto Bayshore or off of 280 on to John Daly to Mission.

The liberal government in SF is just a reflection of the people who live there. San Franciscans think their City (they always capitalize The City when using that phrase to refer to it) is the greatest in the world, and are genuinely amazed when others don't agree with them. I found it a bit too small town and really didn't like living there, though I still enjoy visiting.

SF is the small city? Come one? Its definitely in the top 5% or 3% or 2% of world's cities judging by size Is it like 1% of the cities are big for you and 99% are small?

I grew up in London and lived in Manhattan for 4 years before I moved to SF, and yes, compared to those cities, SF is small. For one thing, it's population is 700,000 compared to 7-8 million for both NYC and London.

After living in SF, I'd say small is a more of a state of mind than the size or population of the city.

No different than New York City or any state in the north east. Do any of you frequently travel to SF so much that its actually going to affect you one way or another?

Who cares?

The Bay Area is pretty big but San Francisco, by itself, is smaller than its neighbor to the south, San Jose, if you measure population.

I am pretty sure when I crossed into SF on Sunday it said $10. Maybe my fastrack got me a discount, I don't know.

Berkeley is even smaller. Tokyo, Mexico DF, NY, LA are all big cities. SF, not so much.

Tolls into NYC are $8 to get in (getting out is free). I also heard they are considering raising the tolls again.
