I don't see anything amusing about it, actually. He's a legand, one of the all time greats, and either he was molested as a kid (his deffense), or he's a pedophile. Not amusing at all, if you ask me.

What's amusing is that he admits to actually paying to access a child porn site and he's trying to say that he was doing it for reasearch. He might be a legend, but that doesn't stop him from being a sicko.

Gary Glitter is a legend too...he paid the price for playing with CP. Why should this be any different? Because he's Pete Townshend. I've met the guy and had dealings with him in the past...great guy, but this kinda changes things.

Pete Townshend is an extremely diverse and intelligent individual. Not only did he write Tommy, but he published a book of poetry (which I'm still trying to find, it's super rare) and edited for Random House for awhile before he went back to music.

If this is true, which it appears to be, I am extremely saddened. I always felt that Pete was an example of what musicians and celebrities should aspire to.

His motives aren't too far fetched. I stumbled across a website a couple of years ago trying to stop child porn on the internet. They linked to 2 child porn sites and begged everyone reading to turn it in. They had a list of all the authorities to contact and one of these sites was based in the good ole USA. 1 year later, the sites still up.

What people don't understand is that law enforcement doesn't just shut these sites down. They monitor them for years on end and compile a list of every visitor. Same thing on yahoo. They watched clubs for years with child porn as the subject and even told yahoo to leave them open. Then the bust thousands of people because they visited the site or club. Guess what, some curious people will click on a link to see if it's true. To see if there is something to turn in or if it's bullshit.

I clicked on the one the website was begging to get shut down. I saw it was still up, and turned it in to every authority listed. Like I said it was still up a year later and probably is now. This is sad, and very disturbing. Ok, so they want to bust all these people but in the meantime these kids are still being abused while the cops compile a list of who does what. That's bullshit and thats our government.

I used to buy old guitars from him when I was working for Hard Rock. It's Pete who actually started the tradition of hanging shit on the walls in those restaurants. I enjoyed talking to him the 2 or 3 times that I did.

They're targetting people the US government have passed onto the UK authorities. These people have paid for, at some stage child porn using a credit card. I think a lot of the priests/people involved in the church actually abuse the people. It is harder to catch them because it means the children abused coming forward which is obviously very traumatic for them.

we are hearing he has been charged in the last couple of hours but I'm not sure what the charges are. Even if done for research he broke the law so it doesn't suprise me he would have some charges either way.

From what has been reported over here since he went public it was well known that he was writing a book on child abuse and pedophila. The inspiration for the book is apparently his own abuse as a five year old.

In the end none of us know the facts at the moment.

Not necessarily. For some kids, the strain of living in the same home, day in and day out, with the person that abuses them causes them to block the abuse from their memory. It's the only way they can go on living with this person who is supposed to take care of them but in actuality is hurting them.

Do some googling on dissociation and dissociative disorder, it should bring up some info on how and why kids "forget" abuse.

This doesn't mean I think Townshend is innocent. If this is just an excuse he's come up with to explain away his looking at CP, I'd be perfectly happy to rip his balls off myself. Don't drag other abuse survivors down by claiming abuse as a reason for getting off on CP -- that's just cowardly.

The Feds have given the UK police a list of over 7000 names that used their credit card to join that CP site from the Uk, so far they have arrested 1200 people including 50 police officers.

I don't doubt that there are processors out there that are prepared to process for such sites, especially in countries where the laws on child pornography are quite lax.

Actually, I have encountered several of them when I was still running a (legal) teen toplist. The fuckers were almost impossible to properly ban, kept coming back with new emails/urls/ips, but pretty much the same sites.
Reported all of 'em, but I have my doubts as to whether it helped or not.

Still could be alot more Pete Townsend's on the list.
