Nearly 59 million lack health insurance!

You think any of them will be voting Republican in 2012?

----------

Nearly 59 million Americans went without health insurance coverage for at least part of 2010, many of them with conditions or diseases that needed treatment, federal health officials said on Tuesday.

health insurance is a fucking joke. these companies are in business not to pay a single dime. I had Aetna for a while and every few months it would go up a little here or there. early in the summer I had, what I thought was a kidney infection and went to the doctor.

Aetna refused to cover any of it because they claimed it was a "pre-existing condition." sure, I had this for over 2 years and just now decided to come out with it... fucking morons.

I am not kidding when I say, I truly hope the number of uninsured increases substantially. I'd like to see at least 90% uninsured, but ideally 100% would be best. Zero health INSURANCE companies is exactly what we need.

You " think " you are covered ... till you realize you are not ...

This past saturday , I went to the emergency room of my nearby hospital, as I felt lousy, tired and had tingling in my hands/feet ...
I arrived at 6:30 . A nurse saw me 10 minutes later and was alarmed with my blood pressure ( 180 / 120 ). Took right away some blood for the lab and inquired about all the symptoms. After another 20 minutes , I saw a GP , that did an extensive exam .
As he saw family history I had provided, he asked for a CT-Scan . I went up , and did the scan right away. Back down , the doctor saw me again, reassured me the scan was fine, that my blood results were fine ( sugar slighty high, but I was not fasting ) .
As he could not find the source, he referred me to a neurologue : I just had to go back Monday.
Monday, 2 more blood test, one more GP exam, saw the neuro. Spent an hour doing various test and reaction checkup .
He wants me to pass a MRI . Gave me an appointment for Tomorrow .....
Total cost : $ 1.00 as I needed to call, had not my cell and no quarters ...

Damn, that sucialost medicine stinks...

I'm insured with a 5k deductible, aside from getting tested I don't ever go see a doctor for anything.

Just over 2 years ago Eva had a terrible car crash. The doctors in the trauma ward thought she wouldn't last the night. But still fought to save her. She responded and spent 10 days on life support. After that into intensive care, then into an orthopedics ward and picked up a body cast made of plastic along the way. She's had follow up surgery to repair her arm, remove some of the metal from her body and monitor her progress. Had an X-ray and check up recently.

Just under 2 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer in my tongue. Again the doctors didn't give me much chance of surviving or if I did keeping my tongue. But they sent me for Chemo with an experimental new drug they were testing. After 3 8 day courses I started Radiation treatment. And kept my tongue. I'm still on a special liquid food that's injected via a tube into my stomach. Have regular check ups from 4 departments every 2 months.

Cost to us $0.00

It's covered in our taxes.

Would the doctors answering to insurance companies risked spending money on lost cases like Eva and I. Would they of been allowed to use experimental drugs under a health plan controlled by insurance companies. Would they pay for the continuing treatment we both need?

Big questions that we don't want to gamble with. Because if we lose, we really lose.

And that's the big gamble some Americans prefer.

I switched our company insurance plan to a high deductible hsa plan about six months ago. So far I looks to have been a good switch.

Sounds like it may have been a TIA, a "mini-stroke," a lesion or lacunar infarction would not be evident in a CT or MRI necessarily. 180/120 Blood pressure is panic level. If at rest your blood pressure is above 140/90 you need to be on medication to lower it.

I am all for socialized medicine, and many members of my family are MDs, however quality health care is important as well as access. I hope the hospital physicians prescribed something to lower your blood pressure to more normal levels.

I haven't had insurance for 3 years now, and I hate that I worry about getting sick or wait until my sore throat turns into the worst strep throat I have had because insurance runs our healthcare system!!

I'm always puzzled when people tout second rate emergency care as something great.
Here in America, you'd have had all of that done saturday night. by better trained and equipped doctors.

Most people Do Not Need Insurance!

Just put away the amount of money you would spend weekly / monthly in an account, and when you need something done, work out a cash price, and pay for it!

hey I like our healthcare system too, but lets be realistic.. having the US switch over isn't that simple... I live in a country with 33 million people in it and England has 51 million, both came up with solutions LONG before they got that big. The US is up to 307 million people (probably not including illegals) and have a giant national debt issue, how would this even be possible right now?

To get rid of the for-profit health insurance scam, that has wedged itself between the sick and their doctors.

Maybe if someone worked on the unemployment problem, more people would have health insurance, being thats there's an estimated 26 million people unemployed.
Of course we could always try another stimulus package, just because the last one didn't work, doesn't mean the next one won't,. LOL

I think they will vote still because they wanted health insurance, if they did not vote to Republican they will get nothing.

As the number of unemployed increases, and as more and more businesses go under (or simply can't afford to cover their employees), then the number of uninsured will just keep growing.

Eventually 50% of the country will be covering the cost of the other 50%. People who pay, will have to wait in line at the Emergency Rooms, BEHIND those who do not.

If you think this is a good plan for the future, then keep fighting against healthcare reform.

Yeah, and if your water or food supply is poisoned by chemical waste or pollution, then that's cool too, right? As long as the corporations do well, it should be up to each and every one of us to take care of ourselves!

And if your road is cracked, or your fire department doesn't have any working trucks, or if the cops in your town are not getting paid, or your bridges are falling apart...who gives a shit!? We don't need no fucking government assistance!

In fact, I don't want to pay any more taxes ever again, period! Because that's how successful countries work!

I don't care about the unemployed, social security, the needy, the less fortunate, medicare, the school systems, national defense, clean air, clean water, NOTHING!

As long as the largest corporations, who ship our jobs overseas, who receive government assistance and tax breaks, have CEOs that are doing well, then God Dammit, that's all I need!

And this TV remote control, and that's all I need, and this ash tray...

the answer is the government should take over all private industry & guarantee everyone a lifetime job, healthcare & retirement benefits. All jobs will be six figure jobs with 6 weeks guaranteed vacation.
They should also select certain people based on genetic qualities for procreation, leading to a prettier, smarter, healthier population.

the scary thing about that is, if it was ever actually offered, millions would jump on it without even hearing what the trade off / price tag is. Millions would gladly give up what remains of their freedom without hesitation.

i would not be among them.

Nor would the majority of Americans. You've got to be an idiot to give government more control, Republican or Democrat. Yes, let's all deny the principles this country was founded upon.

This is so funny, US government suck you dry with taxes, send you to jail if you try to avoid them but won't cover a socialized medical system?

Damn I love Canada!

dear idiot. we're not talking about those things. we're talking about your desire to get for free, that which you do not deserve.
healthcare isn't a right, its something you purchase from a physician.
no one should be forced to pay for that which you are unwilling to pay for yourself and no one should force someone providing said service to provide it to you for free just because you WANT it.

go get a fucking job and pay for that which you want. you know, like you do for your flat screen tv.

Sorry, BFT, you're modeling this wrong.

This is tribal war. People are voting the way they are because of tribal affiliance, and tribal vengance, not out of expectations of future benefit.

Besides, the republicans have a much more serious problem. They've promised jobs by reducing government spending and kicking the lower classes to the curb.

It remains to be seen wether banks will start lending again if the republicans succeed in gutting government spending - let alone wether the republicans will actually cut spending in any real way.

Either way, republicans promised vengance against the liberal elite, tax breaks for the rich, and jobs.

That's their weak point, not health insurance with it's tribal implications.

However, as a weakness, it's not quick. You have to wait and let the republicans try to appease their tribesmen.

And wait to see what happens with corporations and jobs, lending to small business and jobs.

Republicans need to cut a deal with the banks. Promise to let them steal again, and be safe from investigation for future theft, in exchange for easy loans.

Have fun waiting in line at the ER, BEHIND the people who have no insurance, sucker!

Feel good about the fact that as your rates go up like crazy, those who cannot afford the rates will continue to drop off, and the line YOU will be in will just keep getting longer.

Maybe that's what it will finally take, to make a change. And if you think that the rich will be the only ones to get care after a while, while the less fortunate have guns and nothing to lose, well then things should start get pretty interesting indeed.

This is one thing that baffles me also. Why would anyone delude themselves into thinking the government will do anything but fuck up, waste and corrupt health care if given control of it?
