Just over 2 years ago Eva had a terrible car crash. The doctors in the trauma ward thought she wouldn't last the night. But still fought to save her. She responded and spent 10 days on life support. After that into intensive care, then into an orthopedics ward and picked up a body cast made of plastic along the way. She's had follow up surgery to repair her arm, remove some of the metal from her body and monitor her progress. Had an X-ray and check up recently.

Just under 2 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer in my tongue. Again the doctors didn't give me much chance of surviving or if I did keeping my tongue. But they sent me for Chemo with an experimental new drug they were testing. After 3 8 day courses I started Radiation treatment. And kept my tongue. I'm still on a special liquid food that's injected via a tube into my stomach. Have regular check ups from 4 departments every 2 months.

Cost to us $0.00

It's covered in our taxes.

Would the doctors answering to insurance companies risked spending money on lost cases like Eva and I. Would they of been allowed to use experimental drugs under a health plan controlled by insurance companies. Would they pay for the continuing treatment we both need?

Big questions that we don't want to gamble with. Because if we lose, we really lose.

And that's the big gamble some Americans prefer.
