Adjusting to getting old...

I got my new glasses today and was reminded that I'm old...I had to get bifocals...that makes me feel older than the 4 and the 0 on my birthday cake last year...

Luckily they are the progressive lenses so they don't have the line...but wow, what an adjustment...I'm trying to train my eyes and won't be driving for the next little while as I get used to them...

getting old sucks...

are you kidding man? 40? old? c'mon 40 is the new 20;)

no really, i'm a few years older than you and even though there are occasional age signs (i got glasses a few years back for instance) the only way to move forward is to think and feel young at heart.

also consider what you DIDNT miss....a bit of the 70's, 80's...i wouldnt trade that time for any era. for me that was the ultimate time to be young and alive...beats the hell out of growing up today.

regrets? i've had a few..but i could give a crap! haha

not a single thing good about getting old. oh - yes there is - everybody else is also getting old.

i probably do need reading glasses now, reading the small print on packages is getting harder.

middle age isn't old though really - i think of old as 70. but 40's defintely aren't young no matter how baby boomer marketers want to spin 40 as the new 30 etc. 40 is the same 40 it was for your parents.

I just turned 45 and my eyes are just now starting to give me trouble when seeing stuff close up. I have always had trouble seeing stuff far away, so bifocals here I come.

Yea 40 year olds are way more hip these days than back in the day. Only ones that seem old are the ones that act like it. I just turned 29 and its common for me hang with 40 year olds. I don't even know the difference as long as they can carry themselves properly. Age is just a number.

You aren't old, my man. 40 is hip. Just turned 40 this year, myself.
Lost my hair a good chunk of years back so I just cut it off and go bald. Glasses? Got'em years back, as well. Granted, I have to get new ones practically every 2 years to account for adjustments, but wtf.

I think that when you need to start getting up a few times every night to pee, THEN you can consider yourself old.

Come on, man.. you still got your good lucks. And I mean that in a non-gay way LOL

I am the same age and the only sign that I see is getting seriously weird spontaneous erections - just like when I was in my teens ;(

I think this is all due to regular exercise and eating healthier food, which I started 3-4 years ago ... I should probably go back to no exercise at all and pizza all day long

Perfect explanation. I think the only ones braggiing that 40 is the new 30 is us baby boomers - at least that's what my son tells me.

I am 49 and turning 50 in 5 months - you're only as old as you feel. Yes I also have eye problems and actually need to visit a specialist every month to get an eye injection just to keep my vision - but in the long run - I am looking forward to getting older since reading much of the posters here has given me solace

I'm lucky that the only other "old" things I have going on are these sudden stupid aches and pains...from just doing things like standing up from a seated position, haha

I also have the random sprouting body hair thing that is unsettling...

What keeps me young though is a positive outlook on life, having all my hair (ok, dyed blue just in case some grays start trying to make an appearance) and an amazingly hot fiance...and the whole rocky horror thing (how many 40 year old men can dance in high heels better than most women? wait, don't answer that ;-)).

It's funny of the tiny little things that make you feel older....

I turn 50 this saturday, I'll be at the exotic erotica ball that night. I'll be smoking some Bubba Kush, drinking spice rum and dancing with girls younger than my daughter.

Getting old isn't that bad if you do it well, I started needing reading glasses when I was 42, just like both of my parents. Nose hair sucks, but driving down the road, looking in the mirror and seeing a long hair dangling from your ear is funny, just yanked it out. I just started getting on a diet, I've been over weight for 10 years and I'm going to do something about it, low carbs seem to be working.

I'm just glad I still get morning wood, I doubt I will ever need viagra. Also I don't look like I'm 50 which is even better. I look at the women my age and see most don't age very well, so I date younger, LMAO

I didn't set out to date younger...she just came into my life organically...

something that cheers me up...seeing some of the people I went to highschool with on facebook...and how fucking old some of them LOOK. It's pretty scary....receding hairlines and throngs of gray hair all over the place...

I think what keeps me younger looking is I stay active, I don't smoke (except the very occasional hookah), drink or taken any drugs (beyond a daily multivitamin), so my body responds with the odd weird ear or nose hair, but not with too much sagging, graying or aging.

I just smoke my medical and thats it, no vitamins, I don't even like taking aspirin, just more crap to get filtered thru your liver. My daughter will be going to medical school and will be going after holistic medicine, she thinks like I do that people are on too many drugs.
Having a good love life will help you, I'm sure!!!!

I took the subway today instead of doing a pimping ride in my card. Much less stress I can tell. Cabs and subway works fine if you travel alone when kids and wifey stays home.

Ah, getting older, i'm FORTY and i get scared when i see my grey hair , so i do my haircuts fucking short

I didn't realize he was with her in the middle of nowhere - but didn't he realize there wouldn't be any good concerts there, since even dancing is illegal?

Enjoy the show - one of the things that doesn't occur to you until you really start to get old is that there are times you will be THE OLDEST person at a concert. We went to see Nails and Jane's Addiction last year (yes, it was my wife's choice, not mine lol) and I swear that I was the oldest person in the entire place.

yep yep yep.... but nothing beats the wisdom you gain as you get older.

I wish I was as wise as I am now when I was younger, but you have to experience life to understand it and learn. Then I guess, you die? lol ouch

If you think it's tough keeping up with 25 year olds, just wait until you get to the next stage of life.
We were at a wedding last weekend, I'm 56 and I was out on the dance floor with my 2-1/2 year old daughter. We danced to two songs and then they played "Shout" (hey, it was a wedding, they always have to play "Shout" lol) --- when it was over, she wanted to keep dancing but I had to stumble to a chair and drink two glasses of ice water
