![]() What ONE thing can we in this industry do, to increase sales?
Without blaming the economy, or Obama, or whatever.... what can we do,as a group, to up the sales? Used to be porn, alcohol, and tobacco always sold, regardless of the economy, but now porn is free, so what gives? Who's to blame? It seems perfectly clear to me - there is just too much free fucking shit out there! Maybe, in a decent economy, SOME people will still pay for something they want - but in our current economy, people need to cut corners. If porn was NOT free it would be purchased, but thanks to the very people who make up this industry, porn is now free, so what is the solution? |

I agree but the problem is pirate tubes with full videos, torrents, and surfer forums. It isn't webmasters putting up 3 minute clips as some seem to think.

there should be a bandwidth cartel, that set prices across the board, increasing them enough to kill most of the free stuff. fantasy land, but it would be nice.

There needs to be adjustments to the DMCA law, specifically to clarify the definition of a "host" vs. a "content aggregator" regarding safe harbor. We also need the law to have teeth to punish illegal tubes/sites for filling their sites with scraped content from other sites , then pretending it was all "user uploaded".

How is it that CNN doesnt have thousands of user uploaded porn on their IReports section? Oh, because someone actually works on it and checks distribution rights and wont post inappropriate content. So...... do that.

Funny you mentioned CNN...
I was just watching a special called, "Porn The Business of Sex" or some shit... And the interviewed the big wigs of porn companies including Top Bucks... And their general consensus was that they were realizing porn was going to be like TV with advertisers paying for it. So this business model we are now in will be completely DEAD in 10 years. In 10 years porn will be shot and put up on tube sites by the tube owners and dating, web cam, etc, advertisers will pay for the production. Just like TV is today. Sorry... |

Same thing with this forum. Why is it that surfers haven't taken it over by spamming Rapidshare links? Because Eric and the other mods remove such things and ban users who would try it. We all know the excuses are mostly bullshit.

They click on an image because they like what they see.

I tend to agree that the Porn will be like T.V. in the coming years and that advertising will drive revenue. I am also a strong believer that giving the customer what they want is key; has been always will be, in any vertical. We in this Industry have done a particularly bad job of that (my opinion).
Keep in mind that we created this space the way it is. Before Tubes it was TGPs, before that it was 2257; before that it was charge back rates....on and on and on. I think those that see the space for what it is will be fine, those that see it how they wish it was, or how it "used to be" will not. Bump for a thoughtful, business like thread! |

Say that porn becomes like TV but no DMCA laws are changed. I can just steal the content somebody else pays for and start my own site to sell adspace on. It's like if I DVR'd NBC then reboadcast it on my own cable channel. Obviously that wouldn't work. Who is going to be the one sucker who pays for the production of content so everyone else can steal? So for those who think porn will be like television with production being covered by advertising costs, it's not possible without changes to DMCA and copyright laws. And if DMCA laws change, you might as well stay with the current model of selling the porn directly, or possibly a a combination of both. But that's the flaw with the porn/TV comparison in the current DMCA environment. TV works because productions costs are protected since you can't just rebroadcast other TV shows on your own TV network without paying the original producer for the rights to do so.

![]() How about your start producing content that consumers actually want, and at a price they are willing to pay for starters. I would hazard a guess most people haven't a clue about either and I will not even get on the actually converting of a sale or marketing piece.
Although I enjoy a chuckle at the old timers who think they are going to fight technology, or keep beating their war drum with 'put the genie back in the bottle'. Because historically that strategy works so well. *snicker*. Carry on. ![]() |

Porn lobbyists...
someone who can work with politicians and get us fair business restrictions and to stop treating our trade as a dirty shady industry. Bring some regulation into the mix and all of a sudden our market base trusts us again. works for tobacco, alcohol and firearm people, why not us?

Problem is, you can't cheat or fail your way out of this business, no matter who you screw over or for how much. Chris Mallick could start a new company next month partnering with SOBV and The Pirates Bay and 1/2 of you dick heads (or more) would get right in line to get a piece of it. I personally believe this industry now deserves whatever it gets. From .XXX, to mandatory condom use, to piracy, and everything in-between, we've brought it all on ourselves. |

For me to suggest regulation of any kind really shows my disgust for the industry right now, as I am as anti-government as they come. But THAT'S how bad it is. Some serious whips need to be cracked, and if they shut the whole internet down tomorrow, so be it. It would do us all good to get off our asses for a change. Anyone remember what they did with their free time pre-internet? ![]() |

Giving away porn is only half the issue. The half are scammy companies beating the hell out of users. Stealing money, blind cross sells. All that shit people are doing makes it harder and harder to get people to sign up to a legit site.

good luck getting rid of the tubes. only way to do this is begging the major ISPs to block the IPs of the tube sites... or get congress involved that its causing crime and rape
![]() otherwise, people will pay for what they want. obviously what the major sponsors are providing right now is not worth $30 or so a month and I agree. as well, the problem i see is most content is still the same from early 2000, nothing changes except for the girls. think outside the box and things will change. i have ideas and if I had the $$ i would guarantee I could make a game changer... but no money no product ![]()
