But I don't use them.

Vinyl is seeing a resurgence in popularity in recent years due to the fact that it's the best, most pure sound.

I do. I love picking up great records at swap meets and other places. Just the other day I picked up some great CCR and some Elvis for 5 bucks. All in great quality.

I still have some records, but no means to play them. For that matter, I also have some beta video tapes and some 8-track cassettes in my safety deposit basement somewhere.

Vinyl sounds :
"sssssssssscccrratchhhkllittchhhcracklesplisss shhh and ssspopssscrratchh buy-y-ing a *cracklepopfizzwarble" stair-r-way to ... blllaaahhhkkkksscccrattchwwwwsss heaven.....popHeaven....popHeaven..."

Tube Amp Sounds:
["And she's buying a Stairway to ... Heaven!"]
[sssssssssSSSSSSSSSssssSSSSssssSSSSssss]
(They also waste alot of energy due to heat)

Tube amps + Vinyl? Geeze, what noise...

While some people may still think that the noise of tube amps with the crackle and wobble (called "wow") of vinyl is pleasing, Hi Bit Rate digital music and modern amps sound a million times better.

hehe nice... have you read the article?

i'm not using tubes.. i'm ok with my integrated amp, vintage speaker and turntable.. though i still prefer vinyl more on cds or mp3. still have hundreds of cds that needs attention but haven't got the urge to listen.. vinyl,... it's just different.

I love listening to a couple of my Beatles albums on vinyl. The White Album and Sgt. Peppers especially.

Parties too. I love it when DJ's mix with vinyl.... Old Skool!

You keep telling yourself that...

How old are you as a matter of interest? I find it is usually guys over 40 that think vinyl sounds better. Not being patronising, I'm 39 this year and I know my time is running out in terms of hearing! Esp as I played in a rock band my youth!

Here's the skinny. It doesn't sound better. Wanky audiophiles with pre and power amps and monster cables claim it does. Guys over 40 think it sounds better cos it makes them remember first getting the music bug when they were younger.

But when you are old enough to afford monoblocs and pre amps your hearing is too fucked to hear anything much.

I used to work in consumer tech and was at a trade show in the late 90s where someone was demming a 1 million pound stereo. monobloc amps, turntable, speakers cable.

It was OK.

Vinyl is nice because it is tactile, it has large sleeve notes, artwork used to be stunning, etc etc. But all that doesn't make it SOUND better.

And as I said, your ears probably can't tell the difference if you are over 30.

Without a doubt. Wax addict for life. But I do endorse using Serrato for mixing mp3s if You are a dj, it's just more practical.

I agree with you about 95%, honestly. But you are stuck on the definition of better. To a lot of people 'better' means more pleasant and thus, subtly rolled off highs and lazy base is often more pleasant.

As far as your trade show example - a million pound system in a hotel conference room is a stunt, not a serious system.

Yep, still play vinyl and use a Ekco AD36 radio - the ten minute warm up - gives time to put the kettle on...but it's a lovely radio!
