Thought this might be a more challenging thread- naming some follow up films that were as good if not better than the original.

Here are some that come to my mind:

Empire Strikes Back (watching the star wars documentry on History Channel right now)
Evil Dead 2
Devil's Rejects

if we want to go into 3 and 4 part series Mission Impossible 3 was really the only one out of that series I could get into. Shines like gold compared to the other two.

There are some movies that are sequels that you don't even think of as sequels, like Silence of the Lambs, that rock. I gotta try and rack my brain to see if I can remember any other gems.

The Rocky franchise held up pretty well. Rocky V- the one with Tommy Guns- is the only one that kinda falls flat

Gnaw- Food of the Gods 2

Bad Boys 2 - lol, not a great movie but way better than the first go round.

I don't know if remakes should factor in or not, but the remake of Dawn of the Dead was pretty good as far as remakes go.

Halloween 2 (original Halloween 2) is on par with the first, in some ways I like it better.

I just found out that they are doing a remake of The Gate and it's being directed by Alex Winter / Bill from Bill and Ted.

Also to tie it in, the Gate 2 (if I haven't mentioned it before) is a decent sequel. I wouldn't say it's better than the original, but it stands up to it. The only way it disappoints is it only follows one character out, no more Stephen Dorff fam, but once you get over that and roll with it, it gets pretty good.

Another one of those "becareful what you wish for / good things come at a price" horror tales.
