6 dead, 34 injured in Cali Bus Crash

6 dead, 34 injured in Greyhound crash on California highway - Jul 2010

(CNN) -- Six people died and at least 34 were injured -- four of them critically -- in a crash involving a Greyhound bus and two other vehicles on a highway in Fresno, California, early Thursday, the California Highway Patrol said. The accident occurred about 2:15 a.m. (5:15 a.m. ET) on northbound California Highway 99, highway patrol spokesman Officer Kirk Arnold said.

[LINKHOTNESS] Emergency personnel work at the scene of a bus crash Thursday in Fresno, California.

The bus apparently struck an overturned SUV that was in the highway's fast lane, then possibly struck a second vehicle before traveling down an embankment and slamming into a large eucalyptus tree, Arnold said. "We're still trying to piece everything together," he told reporters. Authorities believe at least one of the people who died was a person in the overturned SUV

Damn, not good at all.

Saw the aftermath of a car crash on Sunday when i was out driving. Never a nice thing to see. Still not sure if anyone died at it. I'd be amazed if they didn't...

hwy 99 near fresno can be pretty treacherous.
sometimes the fog is so heavy you might have 5ft visibily, enough to see the front end of your car.

Not likely to be any fog in the summertime, although in the winter when the Tule Fog http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tule_fog rolls in you sometime can't see anything in front of you.

I grew up near Bakersfield and driving at night during the winter could be interesting.
I lived away from town and all the streetlights, and many is the time I remember having to drive with my door open so I could look down and watch the white line, it was the only way to be sure you were still on the road.

As for Hwy 99 being treacherous it's a lot safer than it was when I was a kid, back then it still had cross streets and the farmers would move their farm equipment on it

think about that
