Inception - Discuss the ending (spolier)

Cobb wakes up in the plane, gets back to the USA and gets to see his kids. He spins the top and though it falters, it does not fall. In the dreamworld in doesn't even falter.

However, the kids were in the same location and dressed the same as in his memories.

Did Cobb make it to reality or is he dead?

I'd say it's open to interpretation, aka we're going to make bank off of you in the potential sequel.

All I know is, Juno was looking good.

*EDIT* On the whole final scene thing:
Dileep Rao offered further insight, advising viewers to pay attention to the scene in an unusual way. "You know what, I'll just say this: Use your ears not your eyes."

I have to see it again, too many things to take in one time. I think Dicaprio stayed in his dream world and the ending was him finishing his dream. I think this because I dont recall seeing him get out of the car after it went into the water but everyone else did. I think he died in the car and went into his "limbo" which was altered after he let his wife go and his limbo state moved on to his kids.

Interesting.

When the old guy asked if he came to kill him and reached for the gun, that clearly said they killed themselves. However, they would have only bumped them up 1 level of dream world, into level 3 which is the snow dream world.

How they got out of the snow world (level 3) and then out of the van which was in the water, is what stumps me. They need a kick and killing themselves in limbo would only take them up a level. So they skipped levels 2 and 1 and he woke on the plane.

However, Cobb has been in limbo before and is smart. He may know of other ways to kick and get out, thus he wakes on the plane as the sedative wears off, as planned. He had time.

What a mind fuck of a movie.

Yes they totally left that open.

Maybe do like The Matrix where he gets caught in another world and they have to go and get him. This time Cobb is stuck in a dream world and they have to go back for him because they know he's not dead.

Part 2 would be fucking huge. This is one of the best movies I've seen in many many years.

I dont think Seito's limbo is connected to Fischer's dream world because hes an old man in his limbo but a young man in Fischer's dream world. So obviously time had passed. But I think Seito did shoot them in his limbo and that was the kick to get them back to the plane. Another option is they all could have been dead at some point and were just entering each others dream worlds.

What we do know is when Cobb woke up on the plane, Fischer was already awake. There may be some truth to your thought.

But even if the shooting did kick them, it would only kick them back to the snow level or at most the 1st level where they are in the water, where they missed that kick. I don't see how they were kicked all the way to the plane UNLESS they shot themselves and allowed to go further into limbo for a short period until the sedative wore off and they woke up naturally? If they were in limbo too long they said it scrambled their brains so many it was just for a little bit of time, minutes or seconds maybe.

Really, this hurts my head. Amazing movie.

Look at you fools discussing some fictional bullshit while you could be using your brains to discuss and figure out things that actually matter.

Things that actually matter?

In about 40 more years or less, nothing will matter to me because I will be dead. In a few 1000 years, nothing that humans have ever done will matter.

Nothing matters in the grand scheme of things.

This is true. I think like that all the time, but I don't think it is helpful...

check this though :

they said that Cobb couldn't be the architect, because of Moll. what if he couldn't be the architect because it was never Seito's dream, but his own that he was coming out of.

Perhaps it was 5 layers deep in reality, and because he was in the free fall, the top became what he associated with reality but wasn't ....

This makes me think Stephen King's 'Insomnia' should be a movie.

Ok, just saw it again and took the advice of one of the actors to listen at the end rather than just watching. When his kids run up to him, hes son says "look what I've been building" and then something else I couldnt make out. Remember the quick scene where Cobb and Moll are on the beach in their dream world and building sandcastles of buildings? When Cobb pushes one aside, if you watch behind him, you see a building fall. That tells me that they can build things in the sand that take shape in the dream world.

So the first thing that popped into my head at the end this time was that Cobb is in his kids dream world at the end. Somehow they (maybe with the help of Caine's character) built a dream world from Cobb's last memory of them. Why couldnt Michael Caine bring his kids to see Cobb in another country? It could even be possible that Cobb had died. Remember when his wife stabs him at the end, last time we see her. What happened to him there? There was no effect to him after Moll is shot by Ariadne. Just throwing that out there.

In his kids dreamworld....... Now THAT would be a twist. Did he actually show him what he had been building or just say it?

I don't think he died from the stab, or dead at all. But I do think he is stuck in a dream world somewhere.

Shit, maybe he is still in limbo. They did say anything is possible there and you create it as you go. Maybe Salto shot himself, woke up and moved on while Cobb did stay behind in limbo because he knows the truth that he can not return for some reason OR there was only one bullet left and Cobb could not get a kick.

This movie is a pure work of genius.
