What we do know is when Cobb woke up on the plane, Fischer was already awake. There may be some truth to your thought.
But even if the shooting did kick them, it would only kick them back to the snow level or at most the 1st level where they are in the water, where they missed that kick. I don't see how they were kicked all the way to the plane UNLESS they shot themselves and allowed to go further into limbo for a short period until the sedative wore off and they woke up naturally? If they were in limbo too long they said it scrambled their brains so many it was just for a little bit of time, minutes or seconds maybe.
Really, this hurts my head. Amazing movie.
