Open source alternative to DreamWeaver?

Does anybody have a recommendation for a html editor similar to DreamWeaver?

I like Name WebEditor. It's not a free ware and not an open source, but it's VERY cheap and works for me better than DreamWeaver.

Komposer looks like it's a fork of the nVu codebase.

I've yet to find anything that comes close to matching the functionality of DW.

You can use notepad to write html, or you can also use some online software that your host may provide for you to write html.

I don't need Dreamweaver anymore, it's for beginners. I use Notepad ++, it's free and it has everything I need.

Really, no bullshit here, I used Dreamweaver very often once but less and less with the time and now I really don't need it.

Yeah, me too. I used to use Notepad back in 95 - 96 before there was anything else. But if you are doing production, you use Dreamweaver to get shit done.

Of course, when I feel like being a bad-ass, I code my pages using Amazon Kindle.

I tested DW and used it like 3 times in my whole life, and believe me you can do very heavy production without it. For me, it's just Photoshop, slice, do some fast code in Notepad++, open in FF with WebDeveloper Add-on for the last touches and that's it. The few times I used DW I got more errors and incompatibilities than real solutions. Even though I never used the latest versions (and I don't feel the need to), I really don't feel the need to use a decent yet NOT PERFECT tool when it's easier, faster (well, using macros, of course) and more efficient to do it right from the beginning.

btw, for really stupid WYSIWYG stuff, the best tool I've ever used was Netscape Composer 4.7. There are many programs still using layouts I "wireframed" in NS Composer many years ago

what does dreavmeaver do? I like how it organizes files. I like the color coding stuff. I used to enjoy how the ftp thing worked but WinSCP is so much better. Adobe really doesn't understand what SFTP is?
It just organizes your files? If it's not doing that it must be writing your code for you? How is that anything to brag about?

I love dreamweaver, but prefer notepad++ for small quick editing.
I don't think there is any open source editor that comes close to the set of features that dw has....

code view in dreamweaver is good for raw editing and all the extra features, search and replace, link checks and all those other basic tools just make life quick and easy.
