My 1000th post - how I went from $14k to $21,000+ month in 6 months

Feb 25, 2001 - the day I joined GoFuckYourself.com

Feb 9, 2010 - I make my 1000th post

6 months ago in August '09 I decided I wasn't going to focus on promoting paysites anymore and moving into webcam sales. I created a thread about how my income dropped from 24k to $14k/month and paysites were dead.

Well guess what happened, after reviewing my online assets to decide where to insert webcam ads i realized just how much i owned. I did some tweaking and there was a noticeable & immediate increase in paysite sales.

I started thinking maybe I was giving up on paysites too soon.... I mean paysites treated me so well for so long maybe I shouldnt give up on them so easily.

So I rented a cozy little office in November '09 and went to work. The office was key for me to focus and put in more productive hours - yes my income went up some more.

I have been working 40/hours a week on my business steadily the past 3 months. I am happy to say that since last August my income went back up from $14k to over $21,000 last month (the only new expense is for my small office).

So what was the difference? I worked productively. I looked at was making me money and i did more of it instead of fucking around & experimenting too much.

And I put in solid hours. no surfing bullshit sites while I was supposed to be working. no message board posting. just 100% on moneymaking & asset-building activities. After 8-10 hours i called it a day and came in fresh the next day ( I take weekends off now). no burning out anymore for me!

Looking back I now can admit a good chunk of the reason my sales went down is that i wasnt working as effectively & productively as when i first started. Partly due to burnout, partly due to being used to easy money -- I had lost my hunger, my edge.

But I am back baby!!

And yes even amongst all the free tubes, the bad economy, and despair left and right, people are still buying porn.

This is very interesting, PornHero. Can you post some financial statements, too?

I would need detailed balance sheets, income statements and owner's equity statement.

Do you think you could have done this without the office away from home? I've been debating on getting into one.

at home you have distractions like neighbors, family, unexpected mofos at your door... even i rent a little cheapo office away from home. the other option is to get a cheap studio apartment away from your actual residence, or simply tell nobody where you live at and pretend to speak no english. my little office pad ran me like 300 bucks a month and it served its purpose.

nice to hear - and i hear the same thing from other people I know who actually put in the hours and work, they are still doing pretty well selling paysites in their niches.

hardcore vanilla porn with the same chicks and guys over and over - that's the tough sell, it's indistinguishable from tube sites since that type of content makes up the bulk of tube site content. plus there's the huge DVD archive sites like Videobox with cheap memberships.

The office definitely helped me big time. A change of scenery did wonders for me.

As well as the fact that I knew I was paying for the office made me hungry to work more effectively and make my money back on that new expense. An office shouldn't cost you more than $1,000/month in rent so we are talking just one extra $35/sale a day and it pays for itself.

I am usually at the office at 7:30am, and I am there to work... after 10hrs max i leave & I dont work the rest of the day - that conditioned me to be at my best & eager to work the minute I walk into the office. No getting burned-out, sidetracked or wasting time on things that dont make me money.

True. So many people don't realize that this is a *job*. Yes, it's easier than working as a short order cook in a busy truck stop diner, but it still takes hours and dedication.

Ok, off my soap box now. Congrats on finding a routine that works for you!

I agree... also choosing your sponsors carefully is VERY important... many surfers can now find out with one quick search which sites/sponsors to stay away from and which ones are well-recommended - if you are pushing the wrong sponsors you are shooting youself in the foot... I stay clear of sponsors that have pretty tours but shitty member areas

Nice post. It is cool to see someone not posting about how the sky is falling.

Another little thing that helped me out with productivity was getting a TV tuner card for my computer. I like watching the news and a couple of different sports shows during the day and this let me watch/listen to them in the background while I worked. Instead of just sitting and watching TV for an hour, I get another productive hour of work done.

Good turn around chief

Very easy to get burnt out in the online business. You keep putting the hours in but you are not getting much done.

Hey Porn Hero,

I remember that post of yours in August and how you said you were gonna 'immerse' yourself in cams. I was wondering if you did any research into promoting cams and if so what conclusions did you come to? The reason I ask is that I never had any luck with them.

I have also seen a mild increase in paysite sales since that time but it's because I've been looking for needles in a haystack and promoting them when I find them. That is the toughest work. So many programs open up and announce how great they are to the world and before their sites are even fully loaded in the browser I close them seeing that they are the same old vanilla type porn ....

Good to hear!!!

Thanks for posting an update.

having an office where you dont get distracted by family, dogs barking, the mailman knocking, etc., is a blessing. That and committing to x-amount of hours per week is what will bring most businesses back to the top.
It's sad that most webmasters out there don't take the time to do this.

Congrats, Hero! You're an example to follow

Awesome post! Put me in your list of new sites to promote. We are converting quite nicely. And, no, the sky is not falling - sales are at a record high for me. Would love to hear your strategies and habits to get that much sales/traffic. In fact, I'll bump up your payout if you help me with that.

I have all sorts of online properties from the past 10 years. I focus on SEO using blogs, free sites, a few tubes etc.

But the most important thing in my success I think is what I do once a surfer lands on one of my sites from a search engine. I dont just ship them off to a sponsor and hope for a sale. I focus on "pre-selling" them about the benefits of joining a particular site. That's why using quality sponsors with great member areas is key.

I avoid sending a surfer to the sponsor's official tour, chances are they have already seen it and the odds of them joining thru my link are against me. I build my own tours (that way I keep control of the traffic instead of giving it up to the sponsor) and really only link to the sponsor using join linkcodes.

Hi Peter,

you have some stellar content on PeterGirls.

One suggestion i have for you is to optimize your tour pages for the search engines. Instead of having links like http://www.petergirls.com/tour/pg_update.php?id=649 change them to show http://petergirls.com/[girlname]/[page title]/ or something like that.

Also please hook me up with a username/pass and I will start promoting PeterGirls. email me at webmasterATpornhero.com thanks

nice to hear that. I quit working at home a few years ago and it was a very good decision.

I did do some research on cams and had a few sales. I realize the cam business is like a parallel universe to paysite sales. Same concepts, but different sales techniques required.

Just like anything, it takes 100% focus to learn the ins and outs of the cam biz and to become good at it. and it takes time. Just throwing up a few banners ads to cam sponsors wont really rake in the cam sales.

I now make sure to include cams in my sales efforts, where as before I had zero cam promotions.

Have the same question as someone above - did you do any webcam work or did you just work on the paysite model? I have been away from the biz letting everything run on autopilot for a while and was wondering if you stuck just to the SE/hub concept or if you branched out any?

Sounds about right to me !!!
