Experienced sales people of luxury goods know that very wealthy people tend to dress like bums the most. They are so rich, they do not care what others think, and do not need to impress people. These people collect businesses and islands not designer brands.

They also dress like this because THEY CAN. I have been in meetings with lots of attorneys and other powerful people all in fancy suits, nice shoes - belts and the head guy doing the deal comes in jeans, flip flops and a old worn t-shirt. It was VERY clear who THE MAN was in the room.

I was looking at BMWs at 2 local dealerships.. this was about 2-3 years ago.
I always dress pretty casual, I look fairly young, and was still driving my old Cavalier that I had for probably 6 years.

The first dealership, nobody even bothered to come talk to me. I looked around and left.

The second dealership, I was looking and at least someone came out to talk to me. But, he went off on an ego trip about how he owned a BMW and that you had to take care of it and I shouldn't buy it if I wasn't going to take care of the car properly.

At the time I could have paid cash for it. The salesman kept trying to get me to tell him how much I made and how much I wanted to spend on the car. I was so annoyed that I left.

Needless to say, I went elsewhere to buy.

Yeah, when I first started making really g ood money back in 2001. I went into the bank with a hat on, shorts, funky t-shirt, i was 25 years old. I wanted to speak to someone about getting a mortgage to buy a house. She had the look like i was wasting her time. She asked, well how much do you make and I told her "200". She looked confused like, wtf 200 dollars ? I said 200K, last year and gave her a copy of my tax returns from the previous year. Well needless to say once she saw that I made a LOT more than her she was kissing my ass, getting me something to drink, and trying to set me up with a checking, savings, cds, etc etc etc...

I was selling cars back in college for a couple months. My first day on the job, this 70 year old black guy and his family wanted to look at a new van. Im thinking i wonder if this guy can get credit and afford the down payment. We go to do the paper work and I mention financing and he says no, I have the cash here with me I will be paying cash.

I learned early never judge people by the way they look or are dressed, you never know.

If you are walking into a dealership, you are there to give them business. You aren't telling yourself you should get dressed up because you want to look sharper than the other guys there buying the same car.

Walking in to get a job is totally different. I never judge an interview by the way the guy is dressed. Actually, when I see a guy interviewing with a suit on in this business, it actually shocks me and I tell them they are overdressed. The average guy looking for a job won't come in with shorts. But the average guy will go buy a car in shorts.

no offense man 17k on tickets for a 9hr flight seems like a waste of money to me..

most i've ever paid was 5k total and it was from panama>jersey>london>dubai>new jersey>panama..

and it was all business class, but first class from the londo>dubai>london route...

i cant consciously spend more than 5k on a ticket.. i usually dont mind paying about 300-500 max per hour of flight for first class

so doing your math, a 10hr flight should be 5k max..

There are a ton of empties on the ground, you can set it up through a ton of companies.

A friend of mine works at a company with 6 jets for execs - they charter them when they are idle and they get $50k for a Scottsdale - Frankfurt run.

The company I'm talking about rents through a company called Ellejet, I believe, and through a local company that I don't know the name of and am too lazy to find out, but it's next door to an awesome Italian restaurant at the Scottsdale airport.

I think depends on where you are tho - in Miami you are gonna have a shitload of stuff on the ground, because it's more international.

They charge you up the ass for the plane sitting. My friend is a Pilot for a Jet Company, he tells me some crazy stories. He also said our Company should buy one and give it to them to charter it out, but sounds too much of a liability to me.

i had a confusing encounter years ago somewhat related. I got the "deliveries go in the back" line but completely missed the correlation. I was buying a jetski and i was carrying a box i just bought. When i walked in the guy said "deliveries go out back" , i said "what" , he repeats himself , i say " what deliveries ? " , he says " they all go in back" , i say " what do ? " he says "deliveries" i am totally confused at this point.. so i go out back and ask "Can i look at your jetski's ? " he says " you gotta go up to the front the back is for deliveries only" , it was about then i caught on.

oh and years ago in l.a. i bumped a nun and said " sorry sister" and she said "fuck you asshole" so i kinda did it in reverse.

I agree with you that those are two different circumstances and one should not have to dress up to buy something, that just seems silly, but my point was that people indeed DO judge people based on appearances. We all dress up for interviews BECAUSE of this universal truth--whether it be a suit or not is merely a judgment call.

I have more "Class" than 1/2 the douchebags that dress like they make more than me when in actualtly all they are trying to do is look rich, and they make a fraction of what i do, and they spend all of their money on their clothes, watches, shoes, and cars... trying to be something they are not, and they still don't have any class. There is a time and place to dress up, and then there is the rest of the time. I am fine with jeans and polo shirt, tennis shoes, unless i am going to a business related function, nice dinner, or formal event, then the nice clothes comes out and I take the hat off.

They are so rich, they do not care what others think, and do not need to impress people. These people collect businesses and islands not designer brands. They also dress like this because THEY CAN. I have been in meetings with lots of attorneys and other powerful people all in fancy suits, nice shoes - belts and the head guy doing the deal comes in jeans, flip flops and a old worn t-shirt. It was VERY clear who THE MAN was in the room.
