There is a common thread in all religions from peoples from all parts of the world. Maybe based on a common memory.

Idiots like "the doc" don't have enough brains to understand the question, let alone contemplate the answer

I judge every man individually! As Martin Luther King said, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. There are far more black dudes on this site who I would welcome into my home than white ones!

The spark of life is beyond our grasp.
something to think about.

Life evolved over millions of years - not one year not 100 years but millions and millions of years. Your question is redundant at this stage of evolution as we have no means of existing and thus carrying out scientific observation for such great lengths of time.

Not to mention the composition of the atmosphere was different, the water chemistry was different, the weather patterns were different - everything was different.

Your question is redundant, poorly thought out and not very thought provoking at all.

Right. Just like Michael Moore is a liar, except conservatards can never point out exactly HOW and WHEN he lied. It's funny. You can sit there and watch yourself, as a conservatard, absolutely eviscerated by Jon Stewart or Colbert, Moore or Maher. Obviously intelligent, knowledgeable people. You know for a fact that everything they say is the truth, and correct, yet your sense of your own identity is so obstinately wrapped in this 'being a conservatard' thing that you refuse to listen. Your only defense is to hate them personally and blow off anything they have to say, any way you can. To respond with this fake huffiness, as if what you're being told is so stupid you can't possibly be bothered with it, even though you KNOW - you KNOW - it's not wrong. It's not stupid. It's the truth, and the truth is known to have a liberal bias.

Now go ahead and ask me to prove Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, Anne Coulter or ANY other conservative commentator is a liar. Please.

Now off to bed! The beep of the drive thru waits for no man

Jesus Christ Ronnie, how many times does science have to prove religion wrong before you notice that science has, in fact, proved religion wrong over and over and over already? Have you walked off the edge of the flat earth lately? Watched a beautiful sunset as the Sun revolves to the other side of the earth maybe? Cast out any of those demons that are causing all the diseases of the world?

Why is it more important to you to be a conservative than it is to be actually, factually correct about things?

yeah... and who disproved it? Scientists. Science is not a conclusion, it is a process of discovery.

On Darwin?s Birthday, Only 4 in 10 Believe in Evolution
Belief drops to 24% among frequent church attenders
by Frank Newport

PRINCETON, NJ -- On the eve of the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth, a new Gallup Poll shows that only 39% of Americans say they "believe in the theory of evolution," while a quarter say they do not believe in the theory, and another 36% don't have an opinion either way. These attitudes are strongly related to education and, to an even greater degree, religiosity.

Ron,
what is the name of the college you attended to?

hmmm makes you wonder how those people at least 6500 years ago knew about planets before we did less than 100 years ago. Why didn't I read about that in the indoctrination history books?

Come on, diglet, claiming that disproved common knowledge of the day was religious knowledge doesn't make you enlightened or intelligent, it makes you a putz who can't make a real argument on the subject.

Science, like everything else in our society, is profit driven. The research that would be required to answer this question will not come with a price tag of zero.

It's actually quite sad.

So nasa is profit driven? If it is they are failing miserably at it...

not all science is for entrepreneurs... making some money from it helps though.

So the way to explain it is to say that God created it then? It seems that very argument is also fallible. It is reasonable to say "We don't know"... it is unreasonable to say "God did it and the Bible said so... so it's fact".

SmokeyTheBear 02-19-2010 11:50 AM

we can't make gold, yet we know it exists and is created. If your theory is "god" made it, simply because you can't figure it out, you are an idiot.

We can make gold, they can make diamonds, they have patents on the machines, xerox owns the one on the diamond machine. They can duplicate any object/element if they know the process it takes to create it or have the mathematical pattern of the object.

Unrelated to the religious argument, is it really true we can make gold?

I know we can make diamonds, but I don't think gold can be made synthetically.

Maybe... but this is the first I'm hearing about it.

I just read this online...

Gold is an element, as is carbon. Graphite is a form of carbon. Diamond is a form of carbon. Graphite and diamond are two different arrangements of carbon atoms. We can reform carbon from graphite into diamond, but there is nothing to reform to make gold.

NoComments 02-19-2010 01:08 PM

In a nuclear reactor gold can be manufactured by irradiation of platinum or mercury. Since platinum is more expensive than gold, platinum is economically unsuitable as a raw material. Only the mercury isotope Hg-196, which occurs with a frequency of 0.15% in natural mercury, can be converted to gold by neutron capture, and following K+- decay into Au-197 with slow neutrons. Other mercury isotopes are converted when irradiated with slow neutrons into one another or formed mercury isotopes, which beta decay into thallium. Using fast neutrons, the mercury isotope Hg-198, which is contained to 9.97% in natural mercury, can be converted by splitting off a neutron and becoming Hg-197, which then disintegrates to stable gold. This reaction, however, possesses a smaller activation cross-section and is feasible only with un-moderated reactors. It is also possible to eject several neutrons with very high energy into the other mercury isotopes in order to get the Hg-197. However such high-energy neutrons can be produced only by particle accelerators.

Cool, when we stop using nuclear energy we can use all the reactors to create gold!

From what I understand... they can create every known thing on our planet, at least at a very tiny size. We can't create a human, but we can create the cells with the dna on, that rebuilds your body, turn on dna that can make you glow, grow an ear, from a cell we made. The same technology can take any element, and flip it's switches and turn it into another. This is a result of nano technology basically... everything is made of exactly the same thing, change the switches, the math changes... but it's still the same micro elements, just change the order of them.
