G'day Mate...You've been served.
Sure, this may not be directly related to the industry but...
Australia's highest court ruled that Dow Jones & Co., which publishes the Wall Street Journal and Barron's, must stand trial in Australia, not in the United States, over a story published on the Internet...making it the first real case of being tried in another country, based on that countries laws, over internet distribution. If the Aussie who brought the case against them wins, it?s entirely possible that ?free-speech? on the Internet would take a serious blow. But beyond that, how long before...say...obscenity laws are applied in the same manner? Any thoughts?

It's the worst ruling by a judge since that French judge went after Yahoo.
Think about this - does that mean that Iraq law applies to all U.S. citizens who uses the web? According to this stupid ruling by some idiots judge(s) then yes, it does. You would have to apply every country's laws, including China, Iraq, Jordan, etc., to the citizens of every other country in the world. So, should these Australian judges, who are probably breaking the law in Iraq just by being judges in Australia, be sent to an Iraqi jail? It's probably the best place for them if they are going to keep making stupid decisions like this. Total ignorance. |

Mr.Fiction--
Great points, I don't think this will go on much longer. U.S. won't allow U.S. businesses to stand trial in any foriegn court over material produced in accordence to U.S. law. Otherwise we are all in trouble for our sites if they are accesible by somebody in some place like Saudi Arabia.
