Caro.Net will have a booth at the AVN show but while we will be in attendance at the Palms the show floor certainly hasn't been the most conducive place to do business since they went to that format.

Im with you guys no need to buy a badge when the circle bar is about as exciting as it gets. The only time I was able to meet everyone was at the circle bar and that doesn't cost anything. I also stayed across the street the palms is way overpriced on rooms and you can get rooms dirt ass cheap anywhere nearby.

What, were they throwing a party and charging people for drinks?

When i was there i helped a program smuggle in a shit load of booze. The palms dosnt let you distribute your own booze....

so either the palms forced them to have a palms employee and booze there or some program was charging people for their booze? Or wait.... Was there no booze at all?

Basically every party except for the GAY ones you had to pay for drinks. Fucking lame if you ask me as much as they charge for badges. People show up then immediately leave because they don't want to spend $100 on drink for every party. LAME ASSES. We went to the gay parties and everything was free. I liked hanging out with the gay people they always have lots of chics around and their bar had everything you could imagine free LOL! Guess they are doing better than straight porn programs. They go all out when most of the straight programs penny pinch. When I first started going to shows everything was free and people got wasted. The shows now are much more tame less naked girls, less drunks, less everything. You would think it was a mainstream convention or something.

I've booked the flights. Starting in San Francisco on december 27. So we will be in Los Angeles on new year, hope there is something to do

The Gay floorparty had good drinks and Netbilling in the poker room. Martin filled up the glasses and there was a good atmosphere. In Amsterdam i was surprised, a lot of times when i thought a had to pay, there was an open bar. One time it was closed earlier because the limit was reached when people started drinking champagne.

But without open-bar it is fun also, i am not going to Vegas for the drinks only.

I think it is a good show. Just joined a few seminars. But talking to people at the bar and meet friends of friends gives you a lot of ideas how to make more money and learn about the whole industry. After sitting the whole day/month/year behind a computer you want to meet people in real and drink something. It is a world wide industry and meeting people from different places and with different niches is very interesting. Everybody likes to talk about their programms/biz. And when you need something, content, affiliates, traffic, programmers, billing solutions, hosting than you first look for the people you already met. I am planning to grow, so when i need something, i know where to go. After the show i got new energy and start working hard again, after two years of standstill due to health matters in the family.

For me Vegas is also fun, i like to travel and see a lot of countries and meeting different people. That's why i decided to go for 3 weeks and see more of the country. I was a bit sceptic going towards America, but now a want to see the whole country. Planning to go for another 4 weeks in june or so. (yes in this social country you have 6 weeks holiday)

I see a social plan comming for Jack. i don't know if the prices are to high. The additional cost like flight tickets, hotels, beer, strippers, beer, beer, food, wine, beer are higher. Maybe more open-circle bar sponsors could make it cheaper. But tickets AAE, Awards, Internext, are welcome. This year will be 10 times more expensive cause my GF is comming with me and i saw all that shops...

I think my money was well spend. The show floor wasn't impressive, i think that good be better. But the club parties, floor parties, circle bar, seminars and hotel where ok. Well organized.
See you soon Bjorn!
Enjoy your holiday there too btw.

The Gay sponsors always have the best hotel parties. While others are being shut down by hotel staff or emptying out, their go on and on stronger than ever

You can keep on paying for badges all you want. I won't, especially when there is little to no benefit, and the price of the badge isn't really the point.

I didn't mean to turn this into yet another discussion about shows and value and how to improve them and shit like that, I was just telling it like it is. If the show is at a public venue, and what's going on outside is better then what's going on inside, I'm not paying to get inside. This would be the case for any show, let alone ones put on by companies I cannot stand like AVN.

Gold Coast is still the best deal/value at that show, their new rooms are actually nicer than a lot of the Palms rooms, and the walk from the GC front door is less than say, the walk from Palms Place.
just take a cab from the gold coast to the palms. yea its not far but if you just have a suit on with no winter jacket youre gonna freeze your ass off.

True, true. But you could say that if people use Internext as just a place to meet WITHOUT using the Internext "features" like show floor and seminars and therefore without buying tickets, then it's just a glorified webmaster meet-up. Then it will be up to the sponsors to seize the opportunity and allow non-ticket holders to enter their parties/events and sweeten the pot with open bars, naked girls, etc. But all without AVN's umbrella...

Interesting concept.

You'll spend longer waiting for a cab than the time it will take to cross the street. The last two years were not that cold, especially compared to early weeks in vegas...

Hey, like I said, I wasn't trying to turn this into yet another "what could make shows better" thread. I was just sharing my approach. For me Vegas Internext is a webmaster meet-up.

You are forgetting the money that the show owners put up to promote the show, and all the work, time, and energy just to get everyone together. You attend to attract new business or make a new deal. Do you not want them to earn their well deserved return on their investment? Not buying a badge hurts the show's business and causes prices to rise.

The people and companies who throw parties do not make a dime off of the badges. These parties are hosted by sponsorss who hope to gain your business, or to allow others to network and do business together.

We have sponsored lots of parties in hopes of gaining new business. While it worked some of the time, the time it took to gain that return was sometimes too longer than we required so now we sponsor less.

Each party though is an opportunity to have fun, meet people, network, and learn about products or services sponsors have to offer. I would NEVER refuse to go to a party just because the booze wasn't free. Why on earth would I skip an opportunity like that? Why would anyone?

Chances are, if people are not willing to buy their own drinks, they are not usually people worth dealing with anyway. I'm not trying to be a dickhead, but if some someone is so uptight or so quick to dismiss a party, a company, a group of people, or a chance to network, then they are probably not good people to make deals with in the first place.

Peace.

Actually I'm sick of AVN's price gouging and have disliked the company since I got into this business. What is "well deserved" is definitely debateable. I have had no problem in the past paying full price for other shows as I see fit.

It is going bad in the bussiness. Going to a cheaper hotel (and go with a cab to the Palms), not buying tickets, booze bills on the room of someone else, looking for free drinks. And at the end tipping strippers for 100 dollar or losing it in the slotmachine.

I wonder how the AVN Awards show is. I wanted to see it last year (my first time), but it wasn't very busy there.

I see it is in Palms this year. Last year it wasn't sold out, plenty of seats left.
Well then they should get with the times and combine them together.(not like a couple years ago doing them seperate at the same time, I mean same room, and a seperate B2B area)

Guys, I've been following the status and preparations taking place for the 2010 AVN Awards and I can tell you that it is going to be a very special event. In 8 days we are going to have the new website up with all the important information. Additionally in few weeks a consumers voting section will be open and visitors will be able to vote for certain award categories.

I'm an Internet guy myself and I had no idea prior AVN how much effort needs to be put on such events or how many people have to work each time.

just like last year .. will go, stay offsite, meet some people, go to other event in vegas, enjoy vegas for what it is, go home.

I walked into the "Show Floor" if you can call it that, was "Interesting" ..

honestly things just need a full reboot for shows, or a different kind of show must be born. but these things are pointless, they are what they are, and most of them will stay that way until they can't.

that being said, maybe a nice steak dinner at Capital Grille is order and get some biz done

Im sorry Mark I just don't agree with you on this one.
I always work my ass of at shows and get my monies worth and a lot of biz done.
However I still think its safe to say the Miami show was just not well put together last year and has been on a steady decline for years.
Lets face it you and I have been sponsors in the past and I do not see either of us taking out our wallets for that show these days.
I know the standards line is a show is what you make of it and that is true to some point.
But if I am going to invest time and money in a show it should also be what the organizers make of it, and in the last few years that part has been in steady decline and turning into more and more of just a cash grab.
But thats just my two cents.
We may still go as we are also involved on the other end of the biz and would also take in AVN but just for Internext Vegas, not a chance until I see them get their act together in regards to these shows.

Good to hear. It was nice to see the show last year, but the place was only half filled. I see this year it is in a smaller place, what will make it smaller but nicer to attend. Maybe i'll go to the awards again.

Looking at what we are doing Internext is more interesting. But to have a good view at all the business from producer to custumor it is also interesting to visit AVN. There you can see the fans (customers) and see what they are interested in.
