You are forgetting the money that the show owners put up to promote the show, and all the work, time, and energy just to get everyone together. You attend to attract new business or make a new deal. Do you not want them to earn their well deserved return on their investment? Not buying a badge hurts the show's business and causes prices to rise.

The people and companies who throw parties do not make a dime off of the badges. These parties are hosted by sponsorss who hope to gain your business, or to allow others to network and do business together.

We have sponsored lots of parties in hopes of gaining new business. While it worked some of the time, the time it took to gain that return was sometimes too longer than we required so now we sponsor less.

Each party though is an opportunity to have fun, meet people, network, and learn about products or services sponsors have to offer. I would NEVER refuse to go to a party just because the booze wasn't free. Why on earth would I skip an opportunity like that? Why would anyone?

Chances are, if people are not willing to buy their own drinks, they are not usually people worth dealing with anyway. I'm not trying to be a dickhead, but if some someone is so uptight or so quick to dismiss a party, a company, a group of people, or a chance to network, then they are probably not good people to make deals with in the first place.

Peace.
