OK heres the deal. A friend of mines is a first time net user. He surfs the net when he's here so I let him get on my laptop and go to work. I recently told him what I do and now he wants to get into building sites and whatnot but he doesnt know jack schitt about html or even dialers for that matter.What in the fuck could I have him do to start off??

you could give him a list of TGPs (50% good sites, 50% shit sites)
give him a week to surf these sites, then to make a report on them for you....this will help assess if he has got 'what it takes' to learn the game.....it will also help you to realise what joe public thinks of TGPs etc...

Exactly. I have a new guy starting this week doing exactly that... but I'm making him create the Gallery. I'm giving him photos and having him run them through Arles Image Web Page Creator, then using Front Page to customize them. Then I'm having him upload them to a free site and giving him a list of TGP's to submit to...

I signed him up as an affiliate to my website so he receives 50/50 recurring revenue on any joins that result. He's stoked! Free photos to look at and money to boot. Better than working at Burger King, where he was working until getting fired for fighting. Now he gets to site on his ass in front of a screen all day and look at naked chicks. I told him to surf each site and get ideas from galleries he likes. I told him "find galleries that would make YOU join and imitate them".

If one of my friends who had as little knowledge as you say your friend has came to me and said 'Hey, start me off. I wanna be a millionaire too!!' I'd tell them to fuck off. I suppose its harsh, and I'm not trying to bogart the porn empire pie, but I've got my own work to do rather than try and hand hold some newbie through his first free-hosted free sites and avs sites. If he really wants to get started, tell him to learn a bit of the basics somewhere and then do it the way most of us did.

1. Trawl the info sites. I won't post URL's but there are a few out there as I'm sure we all know
2. Sign up with free-hosting and get free content
3. Build sites and submit them to TGP's and AVS's
4. Keep building and wait for money to start coming in to finance private hosting and better content

I'll tip my hat to you if you walk him through all that but I gotta say, I wouldn't bother.

Then test the guy -- if he can't study the shit then he's not worth the effort... This biz is constant education -- most people aren't willing to put the effort into learning.

I've had lots of friends inquire about what I do... and I've tried to explain it to them. I guess it depends on the person and how motivated they really, really are to get into this game and quit their jobs. Takes a certain type of person, really.

I find that it takes a good while, year or two at the least, before someone really grasps netiquette and the proper way to do business online. People just seem to think that because the internet is so wild, the same principles apply to doing business here.

However if you have the right person who wants to learn, and you are the right teacher, good things could happen.

I've long given up helping any of my friends get into this game. If they really wanted to, they'd at least have to put a lot of time into it all on their own, reading and learning. Several hours worth. Cause that's what I did and perhaps that is why I so dearly appreciate this industry and how easy it is once you have learned the game.

I'm still always in disbelief on how much money people actually do spend on porn.

I've spent the last 3 years learning what I know about this biz. on my own... trying things that don't work and finding out what does, if I had even $5.00 for every hour that I spent just learning how to get a single sign up I would be richer than I am know.

If somebody wants to get into porn on the internet... I think they better forget about life as they know it and get ready for a looooong hard trip, many many hours of work with little or no pay.

But if they have what it takes one day they will feel like it was all worth it.... nothing is easy or free

I think TDF is doing a good thing. Sure, this way the guy he's helping is cutting corners, but he's also bringing in referral payments and most importantly, someone you can trust and do projects with.

As to what he could do, I think galleries first, then some freesites or avs, and perhaps you could also have him updating your TGP

Which is a bitch to do anyways.. I'd have him start out with surfing some porn and learning HTML though

I think that's a great idea and if you have the time and patience, it's a great endeavor.

have him do whatever is simple and can make money. submitting to TGP's is a great way to start, or doing graphics or gateway pages or anything. pay him 50% of what he makes and he gets to learn for free and it won't cost you anything either. have him do little things to help you out to teach him the ropes and keep you moving forward on your projects at the same time.

I've started many people this way and it definitely comes around. First of all, I enjoy teaching what I know, plus after 6 months to a year, they'll have a solid foundation upon which they can learn programming, advanced design or administration skills and then start teaching you things you didn't know!

If they ever leave, then that's okay too, I have lots of people whom i trained from scratch working for big companies around the country now and it's a very valuable resource for questions or subcontract help or industry insight or VIP passes or whatever. Plus i still have residual checks coming in from the work they did for me 4 years ago

I say teach everything you know, it's tough enough an industry as it is, the more educated we all are and the more of us there are, the more we can all work together and all make more money.

I think you can. I took people working in restaurants for $6/hour and a year or so later, they're making a shitload more than that and enjoying their work. These former students are not just employees or former employees they are now thankful and loyal friends, I'd even say they're family. I never said any of that. Where I am coming from is.... It is TUFF to teach someone the biz. It takes alot of time to learn this. Some people want fast results, which most always dont happen. I have been in the Business along time TDF. Dont bust my chops for having an opinion.

But I draw the line at teaching (the whole nine yards) and handholding (so to speak) I have had family members want me to teach them the whole kit and kaboodle. I refuse. Sure, this way the guy he's helping is cutting corners, but he's also bringing in referral payments and most importantly, someone you can trust and do projects with. As to what he could do, I think galleries first, then some freesites or avs, and perhaps you could also have him updating your TGP Which is a bitch to do anyways.. I'd have him start out with surfing some porn and learning HTML though Good luck

snowpimp Confirmed User Join Date: Feb 2002 Location: South Lake Tahoe, CA Posts: 1,099	TDF I think that's a great idea and if you have the time and patience, it's a great endeavor. have him do whatever is simple and can make money. submitting to TGP's is a great way to start, or doing graphics or gateway pages or anything. pay him 50% of what he makes and he gets to learn for free and it won't cost you anything either. have him do little things to help you out to teach him the ropes and keep you moving forward on your projects at the same time. I've started many people this way and it definitely comes around. First of all, I enjoy teaching what I know, plus after 6 months to a year, they'll have a solid foundation upon which they can learn programming, advanced design or administration skills and then start teaching you things you didn't know! If they ever leave, then that's okay too, I have lots of people whom i trained from scratch working for big companies around the country now and it's a very valuable resource for questions or subcontract help or industry insight or VIP passes or whatever.
