Today i put a couple of CRT monitors out on the front lawn with a signt that "free, works perfectly'. I thought maybe someone could use them who couldn't afford lcds or whatever. Guess what happens though...some fucking bum who drives around here picking up peoples garbage to resell comes and doesn't take them but fucking cuts the wires off and leaves them! I couldn't believe it. Anyways, I chased him down and made him take the monitors. They are useless now and I'm sure won't be disposed of properly but holy fuck, I couldn't believe that shit.

Hey thats not too bad, try it around here and someone will just smash the screens and leave you with a huge pile of glass all over your lawn. Or you'd get some ticket for breaking some obscure law. Or both. blah

Ha, I have no idea. All I could think is maybe he wanted the little bit of copper in the wires to sell but in doing so he made them totally useless to anyone. I didn't even try to ask what he wanted the wires for.

He is collecting the wire for the copper, and whatever is in it to sell to the scrap yards.

We have a lot of that around here. People who will nit pick through your shit just looking for the steel, copper, and aluminum or whatever it is that scrap yards take by the pound. He knew those monitors were not worth a shit, but he wanted the copper in the wires.

Inside should/could be a long degauzing wire though I think, many wraps around the tube. That bum will be in copper heaven.

I tried researching places to donate them to around here but found nothing. I posted them on kijiji and gave one away to someone who needed it but no one seems to want them anymore.

This guys picks through the garbage every week then sells it at yard sales he has. He probably could of sold them for a few bucks rather than the few pennies he'll get from the copper.

If he cracked it open to get at any degauzing wires, he'd most likely end up touching the leads to the flyback transformer and get juiced.
