I run both 32bit and 64bit Vista on my machines at home and haven't had any issues with them.

I'm running 64bit Vista on my main machine, I HAVE seen a crash or two lately, but it's always been when I've been running a few video rendering streams, plus other apps open, and I disconnect an external hard drive. That's the only pattern I've seen -- heavy processor & RAM usage combined with yanking an HD.

yep, constant browser lockups. i use firefox mostly. including their latest.
i have been also running the win 7 beta, and their release candidate. same thing. today i rolled back to xp, and things are good again .. it seems to be with webpages with some sort of flash or ??? animated banners on the side. even walking away from my computer, and come back later with pages simply displayed, it locked up by itself due to the instability with those pages contents. tried chrome, but dont like it for several reasons. xp seems to be my solution. ubuntu is also a solution or a hackintosh option. |

I have one vista 32 system with shitloads of ram that consistently crashed the past few months but since the last service pack update a couple of days ago it's been fine. [fingers crossed]. Still using firefox on it and that crashes all the time (all versions), shame, the new 3.52 is super fast.

Did some searching around, looks like there are compatibility problems between Vista and Firewire devices. So that may be MY problem, at least.
Thanks, Microsoft! ![]()

After a BSOD in Vista you should get a box that says "Find Solution". Click It. It works.

Hmmmm. I guess I'll just have to cross my fingers and next time it crashes copy the error codes. I always do the search for solution on recovery and so far windows has come back with nothing.
Pretty much a brand new machine, super clean. I've had it since end of june , begining of july. Never had an issue until the other day right after an update. New IE update is looking nice, but for some reason the OS has just bombed out. It's not cronic, but once a day, if it hit me at the right moment could really fuck me. Damnit. |

You probably have this driver, I would update it if so.

The best way though would probably be to turn on small memory dumps. Then the next time it crashes open up the dump file in the debugging tool here. Once you open the file it will most likely list the problem such as a driver for one of your devices or a program causing it. |

The ONLY repair was luckily It had restore points. That is what I would do if poss. So it has never been updated, runs defs from late 2007 and RUNS GREAT. Never crashes. Fast. Software updates are not always in the end users best interest. (notice how nice I was, I was gonna say, software updates are for suckers) ![]() |

From what I've seen only maybe 30% of software continues to improve update after update.
Most become bloated and crappy. And some will fuck other shit up, and still others will take back shit they gave you in previous updates because they now realize it is in their best interst to do so. Of course there are exceptions that "can" be updated (notepad hehe) or "must" be updated. (Nifty Stats - God bless um, great running software) Anyhow good luck. Usually crashes are from conflicts with other software. Get "Process Explorer" (do search) Great free prog that will show all running processes and allow you to pause them a few at a time. Try shutting certain software and processes down a few at a time to try and narrow it. Or maybe something will stand out. Good luck. ![]() |

Looks like I found the cause of my problem, it's what eroticsexxx mentioned, but here's more info with uninstall procedure.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975070 Keep in mind this is 64-bit Vista that's effected by this.

I'm new to vista, got the 64 bit on a new laptop and yeah, lately every time I unplugged something from the usb I would get the dreaded BSOD, I used the "find solution" and "send info to microsoft" utility just for yuks and it told me that update #KB973879 was at fault,
I booted in safe mode, removed that update and no more BSODs that being said I still am not liking vista and I'm glad I qualified for the free windows 7 upgrade |
