In the end, the government surrendered. At the time, The Boston Globe cited bankers dismissing the bailout as "relatively routine" – but the federal documents reveal it was anything but. The FDIC agreed to accept nearly $5 million in cash to retire $15 million in Bain's debt – an immediate government bailout of $10 million. All told, the FDIC estimated it would recoup just $14 million of the $30 million that Romney's firm owed the government.

It was a raw deal – but Romney's threat to loot his own firm had left the government with no other choice. If the FDIC had pushed Bain into bankruptcy, the records reveal, the agency would have recouped just $3.56 million from the firm.
Bailouts are bad, except for Romney? lol

I'm sorry, Howard Stern is a shock jock. His position on anything is utterly fucking irrelevant.

Very interesting read.

I honestly don't understand how anyone can be behind Mitt. His entire business history is exactly what caused this financial mess. I just don't get this.

Voting for Romney is going to drop the World into worse trouble, except for a few. Like Romney.

"If Bain Management take over your company, run for the hills."

Does that include the US?

Surprised he didn't mention the capital Bain got from the Salvadoran's responsible for the death squads.

I have to respectfully disagree with you on that one. He is an American citizen so his opinion is just as relevant as any other American citizen with the right to vote. He is just fortunate enough to be able to voice his opinion to a large audience... just because I happen to agree with pretty much everything he said about Bain Capital is what's irrelevant heh heh

That's great.

I support who I want to support because I support him and want him to win. I am choosing between what I believe is wrong or right.

Do you think someone who is a shock jock is honestly telling you what he believes in because it's what he believes in, or because it's his job to entertain you? How do you know he's not picking sides because it will help his ratings? I'm not a fan of Howard Stern, although I have bought and read a few of his books, but I would never believe in anything he said just because he is a shock jock.

The 1% at the top need someone to pint the blame at. In reality they are completely to blame for the present trouble we're in. In fact it might be slightly more or a lot less.

What happened was a 2008 version of the 1930s crash. A market inflated so far over it's true value, it would only take a small knock to bring it down. What ever way you look at it, that's the truth. The Banks and other gamblers had forced up the paper price to a level they could not cover.

The hole created was huge, the bailout didn't cover it, just steadied the market. Too many looked at the DOW, NASDEQ and FOOTSIE to see the health of the economy. Just because FB shares are trading at $22.86 it doesn't mean the company is worth that or will ever be worth it. For it's real value http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/27/te...ions.html?_r=0

Now idiots will tell you what they might do, could do or what the tooth fairy tells them. $22.86 is a huge gamble on a horse that has no chance of coming in.

And that in a nutshell is why 2008 hit you like a sledgehammer. Yet crazy gamblers are doing it again.

Me personally? I don't base my opinion or my vote on what someone else's opinion of the candidates are. If it is his true opinion or not I don't really care. I agree with what he said so I guess I was entertained... wrong word...interested is a better descriptor. So, my thoughts on him speaking out the way he did remains the same. His stated opinion is just as relevant as any other citizen who has the right to vote. Just as your opinion that he should never be taken seriously is relevant to this conversation.

Look, I have strong beliefs and I don't think that someone like Howard Stern is going to sway them much or even at all but I was pointing out that as a citizen of this country his views on the public sector are just as valid as anyone else s. To question if he actually means what he says is pure speculation. I take Rush, Bill O, Keith O, Glenn and yeah even Howard Stern at their word... if they say that _____ is something they believe in or voice their opinion on something, no matter how twisted, wrong, demented or correct I think it is I tend to believe that they believe it. I know the workings of their mind by the products of their mouths.

Breaking down the 47% (46.4% actually) who don?t pay federal taxes:
** 50% - families who make less than $30,000. After the standard deduction and exemptions for children, they owe no taxes
** 44% - tax expenditures that benefit older people.
** 6% - People benefiting from Tax Exempt Interest, Itemized Deductions for those making $30~50,000 annually, a favorable Capital Gains Rate and everything else.
So this group is almost entire composed of the really, really poor and the elderly.

************************************************** ************************

Breaking down the 49% of households that get some type of government benefit:
** 26% - Household with somebody enrolled in Medicaid
** 16% - Household with somebody receiving social security
** 16% - Household with somebody getting food stamps
** 15% - Household with somebody getting Medicare benefits
** 5% - Households that got rental assistance
** 2% - Households that got unemployment benefits

60% of the ?49%? receive Medicare, Medicaid or social security ? almost entirely paid for by payroll deductions outside of federal income tax. Because of my special needs son, I am included in this ?49%? because he is enrolled in Medicare (though he does not get benefits) and also receives social security despite the fact I make a good living and pay a ton in federal income tax, social security and Medicare. It is all based upon my over 17 year old son, who is now a legal adult with no income and who will never be able to earn one. I can assure you, my family is not dependant on the government for survival.

(Note: These government benefit numbers do not total 100% due to an overlap being as some households receive more than one type of aid)

Long story short, don?t buy into the spin. When you hear ?47% don?t pay taxes? (or 49% of all households get some form of government aid) they want to you to think that these people are all on welfare, food stamps and/or getting paid to sit at home, smoking pot. I know there are those people out there who abuse the system but they are nowhere near the majority that is spun.

Ventura/Stern 2016!!!!

You have obviously never listened to his show. He is very well educated on more topics then tits. You are in the porn business, so now your position is relevant? LOL. Someone in the porn business saying an educated radio personality position is irrelevant. How fucking hypocritical are you...

When you open up your wallet and splurge the 4 bucks a month to get sirius, you will know that HS is probably the best interviewer on the planet and one of the smartest guys in media.

I've listened to his show, on and off, for the past thirty years or so. (I am a born and raised Jersey boy.) I've also read his books. His show never really did much for me.

Youre lost.
But my blog posts aren't political in nature, nor are they influenced by anyone else.

You cannot say that about Howard Stern. I don't know who owns Sirius, their political leanings, or how that influences Sterns' political leanings. I also do not know how his advertisers are and how that affects things, or who is fan base is and what that might mean here - Is he Democratic because his boss or advertisters want him to be so, or is his fan base Republican and he's trying to piss them off to get them talking?

(I shouldn't have been surprised the other day to learn that Fox is owned by Clear Communications, which is owned by.. Bain Capital.)

In this case I seem to agree with Stern, but I'm not about to have my political stance influence by Howard Stern or Hugh Hefner or some comedian or actor or actress.
