True-ish. It wasn't his only problem. Kevin Carter's suicide note:

I remember seeing the photo a few years ago. Absolutely the worst thing i've ever seen.

I also remember reading about the photographer and his suicide. The guy has seen so much fucked up shit in the world that he simply couldn't deal anymore.
