Some Twitter tips
A few tips for those of you who want to start using Twitter to make money.
#1: Try to let an account "mature" for a bit before you start following large groups of people. A few weeks of 2-3 updates a day, and it looks like a "real" account. #2: When following people to make them follow you back, first make a few tweets about a specific subject, then add a large group of people who are interested in that subject. It will boost follow-back rates greatly. #3: The higher your followers/following ratio is, the less you look like a spammer. If you follow a few hundred people, wait for a week, stop following those who aren't following you, wait for another week, follow another few hundred people, etc., you're unlikely to get flagged and will reach a few thousand followers pretty quickly. #4: Don't do spammy stuff until you have at least a few thousand followers. It's far more important to build a worthwhile list than it is to reach a few dozen people with an add. #5: Responding to people with large groups of followers is a great way to get them to follow and mention you. #6: Don't overdo it with Tweets. Too many of them, and people will stop following you. Feel free to add your own tips.

Thanks for the tips. I noticed after I signed up for twitter, within a day like 3 people started following me. I'm guessing it was bots of some kind.

I believed the current max you can follow per day is 500, and the lowest followed/following ratio that's allowed once you hit 2k followed is 0.1. If your tweets mainly consist of links, though, those will get you banned. The key to not getting banned is making your account look like a "real" account. That means having conversations with people, responding to others, etc. Instead of linking directly to ads, it's usually better to link to interesting articles that also link to ads. Since spam has been on the rise, I predict some much stricter rules coming soon.

Another thing to keep in mind: at least as large as the risk of getting banned is the risk of falling into the "spammers spamming spammers" trap.
It's easy to get thousands of followers who are all bots, ebook salesmen and online marketing "gurus". But aside from being very easy, it's also entirely pointless. Bots don't buy.

Following large groups of people depending on your content may get you banned by the person your following flagging you.

Basically, you wait until you've become an established participant before you start marketing.

You can follow 1k a day I thought. www.twitadict.com really helps to automate the following. I have two twitter accounts adding followers as I am typing.

Mainstream, with a small dash of (indirect) adult dating.
For pure adult, you'd probably have to be either be spammier (and know all accounts would be banned fairly quickly) or less spammy to make it worthwhile.

I've gone against a few of those rules and the mainstream account I am really working has done well growing on it's own.
I don't follow anyone new myself at this point, but I do auto-follow anyone who follows me. Every post I make has a link in it too. I don't see how that might get you banned. http://twitter.com/iheartwordpress |
