Billions in aid go to areas that backed Obama in '08

"Counties that supported Obama last year have reaped twice as much money per person from the administration's $787 billion economic stimulus package as those that voted for his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain, a USA TODAY analysis of government disclosure and accounting records shows."

"Billions of dollars in federal aid delivered directly to the local level to help revive the economy have gone overwhelmingly to places that supported President Obama in last year's presidential election.
That aid ? about $17 billion ? is the first piece of the administration's massive stimulus package that can be tracked locally. Much of it has followed a well-worn path to places that regularly collect a bigger share of federal grants and contracts, guided by formulas that have been in place for decades and leave little room for manipulation."
-------------

kinda blows the idea that the smart are voting for obama.

But then, we kinda knew the rabble vote were voting for their hand out and not for their ideals.

Clearly you didn't read the whole USA Today piece -- or got it from a second hand source that buried the info:

"Much of [the money] has followed a well-worn path to places that regularly collect a bigger share of federal grants and contracts, guided by formulas that have been in place for decades and leave little room for manipulation? The imbalance didn?t start with the stimulus. From 2005 through 2007, the counties that later voted for Obama collected about 50% more government aid than those that supported McCain, according to spending reports from the U.S. Census Bureau."

Another money quote

"Investigators who track the stimulus are skeptical that political considerations could be at work. The imbalance is so pronounced ? and the aid so far from complete ? that it would be almost inconceivable for it to be the result of political tinkering, says Adam Hughes, the director of federal fiscal policy for the non-profit OMB Watch. "Even if they wanted to, I don't think the administration has enough people in place yet to actually do that," he says"

And everyone industry votes for hand-outs as well why do you think lobbyists and banksters are so well paid.

LOL.

That wouldn't have ANYTHING to do with the fact that red states have been refusing the use stimulus money, fighting it in court, dragging their feet, etc etc... this thread is FAIL.

His only mistake regarding the auto unions was trying to make sure all three survived. You only need one domestic auto maker.

not true! the obama crowd wants everyone else to pay for what they think they're owed. its quite a shift in mindset from previous generations.

*yawn*

Ok, so $17 billion out of a $787 billion stimulus package has been tracked locally so far, and of that 2% or so that has been tracked, more has gone to areas that supported Obama than areas that supported McCain.

So besides the fact that this sample size is statistically insignificant and besides the fact that Obama won an electoral college landslide and therefore there are far more areas in the country that supported him than didn't, what exactly is your point?

Must be a slow fucking day. Is this really the best you can do?

that the idiot vote went to obama.

that it wasn't the smart or successful that voted for him.

that the country truly is run by the majority of morons now.

that you're a member of the proud majority.

And it's a well known fact that the Republicans never want anything back and only give to others.

Well it is in 12clunksland. Back in the real world where the rest of us live we know the truth. People vote for the people who will benefit them first and the rest second.

So 2% of the stimulus money that's been tracked so far has gone disproportionately to areas that voted for Obama, and from that you draw the conclusion that idiots voted for Obama.

Yeah, you're living proof that it was the "smart" people who voted for McCain.

Dude we just bailed out the banks. Not really the Obama crowd. The dems will through cash at their people just like the republicans did. That is how it works. the good news is that historically the democrats through less cash.

No, I draw my conclusions of the Obama crowd from the likes of you, the Obama voter too stupid to see the train wreck coming and not smart enough to survive it.

The last paragraph you failed to share...

The imbalance didn't start with the stimulus. From 2005 through 2007, the counties that later voted for Obama collected about 50% more government aid than those that supported McCain, according to spending reports from the U.S. Census Bureau. USA TODAY's review did not include Alaska, which does not report its election results by county.

You and your ilk have been saying the same shit about Progressive presidents since Teddy Roosevelt. Then it was FDR, then it was JFK and LBJ.

Your generational argument is utter bullshit and anyone who's ever read a history book knows it. You're just bitter because you lost. Get over it.

This is a democracy, that means that about half of the time, people who disagree with you are going to be in charge. Live with it, or move somewhere else.
I have to foot the bill for your guy's wars and disastrous foreign policy, you can join in and share the pain on my guy's domestic priorities.

Yeah. You vote for the guy who promises to cut your taxes, but it's only out of sheer patriotic selflessness, not self interest of any kind.

Not to mention the fact that you voted to put the train wreck that is Sarah Palin a heartbeat away from the presidency, for a president who would have been 72 on inaguration day, and a former cancer patient to boot.
Yet you have the audacity to call the people who voted for the other guy idiots.

His age and medical history combined with her incompetence bordering on stupidity alone was reason enough to vote for Obama, regardless of what your politics are.

Get a grip.

I have to foot the bill for your guy's wars and disastrous foreign policy, you can join in and share the pain on my guy's domestic priorities.

It's one thing to have the occasional political debate, especially in an election year, and ESPECIALLY if the policy somehow affects our business.....but it seems like half the people on here only exist to cut and paste news stories, or to opine on news stories that others have cut and pasted.

kinda blows the idea that the smart are voting for obama.

But then, we kinda knew the rabble vote were voting for their hand out and not for their ideals.

You obviously don't know the difference between posting in an existing thread and starting a new one, between taking part in a debate that's already ongoing as opposed to cluttering up the first page with a bunch of news stories that anyone who cares has already read anyways.

When you have nothing to say why do you resort to insults?

Genuine question and not trying to follow you in this trait.

Snake Doctor said it all. To get the illusion of tax cuts you would of put a very old man and the possibility of someone completely incapable into the White House. For the good of the country or the good ofyour wallet?

Please explain what qualifications you think those two had to lead the free world instead of Obama? Or do you vote with your own personal good as the top most consideration?

Over to you for more empty insults.

The train has already crashed after 8 years of the fuck that you love so much. Obama has been in office less than 7 months and he is still trying to figure out if Bush left anything working.

The idea of tax cuts is an illusion sold to the gullible and yet they still think it happens.

I've been around a little longer then most and as a voting and working man over 40 years. This is the truth.

GOVERNMENTS NEVER EVER SPEND LESS AND REDUCE TAXES.

They move taxes around, give to one and take away from another and always we end up paying more. Be it in income tax, sales, gas, cigarettes, alcohol, land/home rates or any other tax they can dream up.

Only the dumbest believe successive Governments spend less.

LOL.

Thanks for the full story

Its working out quite well considering more than half the banks have already paid back the govt back the TARP funds. Now stick to issues in your own country you clueless fuck.

A) first of all fuck off retard.

B) if I told you to fuck off then asked for a handout would you give me one? No. case closed.

Now STFU already. Why don't you go to some Christian anti-porn meeting since that's your kind of people.

God you make me sick with your stupid shit. Why anyone would even do busines with you other than you neo-con fag butt buddies like stickyfingerz is beyond me.

I find it fucking ironic that the republicans complain about too much spending then bitch when they feel they didn't get "their share". If republicans stood by their ideas they wouldn't even accept any of it.
