Recent History:

Chapter One: CLinton
-Clinton lucked into a huge economic boom due to a change in technology.
-Everyone got rich
-Tax revenues went through the roof
-deficit was substantially reduced
-everyone needed someplace to put their cash
-real estate boomed
-rules were changed so that anyone could get a loan no matter what
-crazy ass derivative products were introduced
-no real thought was given to terrorists or safe borders or the 'homeland'

Chapter Two: BUSH
-Bush "lucked" into 9/11 - he wasn't at fault for the shitty security conditions, but he had to respond and find a way to correct it.
-In reaction to those events, in a fog of war, he crushed our civil rights and many freedoms to increase our domestic security
-in reaction to those events, we attacked a bunch of countries and entered into a decade + of aggressive pre-emptive wars
-at home, the real estate market and lending practices and derivative securities sky rocketed into ridiculousness
-Finally the bubble burst and we all got shit on

Chapter Three: OBAMA
-Obama lucked into a financial shit storm. - he wasn't at fault for the shitty economic conditions, but he had to respond and find a way to correct it to try to prevent a national and global depression.
-in a fog of financial mayhem, he and congress pushed through unprecedented government spending in record time.
-Obama makes all kinds of promises about magically healing this serious financial problem while continuing to fight those same wars.

The policys of the Clinton administration did absolutly nothing to prevent 9/11, I'll agree with that. But the Clinton administration was not in charge, and had not made several very questionable moves in the weeks leading up to 9/11.

Clinton wasn't the greatest, but times were pretty damn good back then.

So its not that anyone expected anything within 30 or 90 days but what I didnt expect is for someone to pretty much say one thing to win your vote than do another.

Well... that is remaining to be seen... however, this is an opinion piece (which I noticed you guys love to quote... opinion pieces)... as of right now there is no proposed tax increase... and don't say that the energy bill is a tax increase because it isn't.

Because that's what's going on now... Obama purchased 60% of GM on the tax payers dime... A failing company because their quality of product isn't competitive in the market place. The declining economy only brought that to light. Now the tax payers are in the auto industry... we bought Amtrack years ago and then the Fed Gov made it illegal to compete against them... What's in store for the auto industry?

What about this new bill for reducing green houses gases? It takes energy almost 100% and we're all going to pay for it.

How about regulating the tobacco industry that he signed off on and was passed? Now you can't have light or low tar cigarettes... you can't sell clove cigarettes... you can't sell shisha (and hookah bars have become quite popular [sorry all you new business owners, you're fucked])... they also regulate what the package of cigarettes can look like as well as all aspects of a matchbook... WTF?!

True - more to the point that you usually can't blame historically bad conditions and outcomes on any one president, congress, or law. Its a rolling clusterfuck and we're just trying to do the best we can with the information and conditions we have.

Someone else may have posted this already, but that graph is a little misleading. The Bush budget doesn't include the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He felt that the money spent on Iraq and Afghanistan should be accounted for differently. Obama disagreed and added that money back into the regular budget. So in order for that graph to be completely accurate you have to add in another 875 billion on Bush's side.

Obama is still spending money like crazy, most of it (at least at the moment) coming from the stimulus bill, but the difference isn't as big as that graph makes it appear to be.
