I think this is just another myth. Sitewide links are a very normal thing with wordpress and other similar cms. No need to worry there imo

Ban=Removed from index.
Penalty=Dropped in the SERPs.

Not trying to be a dick, but the thread conversation is about "Google Banning Linkex." There's a big difference, and Google has not banned linkex...

And there will be no "generated by linkex" bullshit in your HTML code

So I will ask again:

How Google will know if I'm using linkex?
By making a link to the signup page to linkex ! Now this page you cannot change (sort of) !

Ok here is what i just did.
I copied all the link trades to the page and removed the php code to generate linkex. Then i renamed the directory to /whateveriwant/ and removed index.php from it. So this way, i don't loose anything if i want to redo everything.

In other words, removed everything associated to it. Of course, i can"t check out every damn links manually, every hour but it's worth the test. I'll let you know if i get back to the top again.

Sorry man, but I think you are the crazy one - not me. Here is the example:

http://www.maturedesign.com/linksdemo.php/

Ok, now show me how if will find out I'm using linkex there?

Something is telling me that you will fail...

P.S. I will remove this demo page tomorrow, so hurry up please

Hey Jdoughs and Nicky, do you have any luck with my example? It's a REAL linex category blog included into the page as follows:
PHP Code:
<?php
include("http://www.<secret>.com/<secret>/data/output/1001");
?>

Yes this worked great, you can also simply modify the tag itself to say something like "Friends" instead of the generated by linkex....etc.

I also just added /linkex to robots.txt to be disallowed by the serps, hopefully this is enough.

Yeah now they will never now!

Did you put in quotations to 'not index my automated linking system' into the htaccess as well.

Putting it in your robots.txt just guarenteed they know what you are doing.

First off, those are Rochard's sites, and secondly, neither are even in top 20 for their 'main keyterms'. And most likely cause they are total link farms. (like most linkex sites)

But I know, you don't link to it to try to rank it, you use them hardlinks for 'other' reasons right?

Using a different (non-default) folder name, and changing a single default config parameter in the script is called a "massive work" now?

Sorry, but it's you are the one who clearly retarded.

P.S. In my example above I was replaced the real domain name with "<secret>" just because I like to post links to my blogs and splogs on public forums. As I said above - I'm trading the links in personal way only - doesn't matter what exactly link manager I'm using.

That's not "first" and even not "second" of anything. I was using linkes block of links to Rochard's sites just because these sites are openly trade the links with linkex, so there is nothing but to use them as examples. However 99% of my link traders do not trade via public forms (so they can't be considered as link farms neither by you or by Google), so I don't want to expose those links here.

So the result: you failed. PERIOD.

Bottom line, if you have a page that is open for automated link trades they see it.

Say what you want. Unless its pass protected, all that has to happen is a webmaster with google toolbar to visit it. Telling them to not index it isnt stopping them from seeing it.

And sure I can call them link farms, I just looked at them, need me to count the outbounds?

Sure, like I said, show me where you are using it (the sign up page) and I will show you how they can see it.

Behind a pass protected directory is gonna be the only way, which you haven't eluded too. If so, then you've hidden it, but still have built a stereotypical linkex link farm.

Of course it's pass-protected, because it's LinkEX LOL

P.S. I've removed that sample page because it's not actual anymore. Thank you for proving my statement from 1st page

Actually I don't (I have no link farms at my own resources). Furthermore we were talking on how to detect LinkEX but not how to detect a linkfarm

is it not possible that google has streamlined their method of investigating "paid link trades" complaints..

i.e. an evildoer is reporting sites en masse to google, google is responding quickly.

I'm just gonna get back to my sites that have consistently been ranked top 3 in google for more years then some in this thread have been in the business.

Do what you feel works.

For the record too, there was no ban or penalty out for linkex, whoever the OP is they just were trying to stir shit up with the latest news of the ST incident.

Hmmm, I'm not sure how to block the serps from seeing /linkex in htaccess without blocking everyone. What would be the code?

I've already masked the link on my homepage with an internal PHP redirect, so it doesn't link directory to linkex/index.php. Im going to change my signature on here now to do the same.

If you don't want SE's to see your LinkEX directory, just rename it

It's very hard to block the search engines only, because you will have a HUGE list of their IP's and crawler's URL's. Not all search engines identify themselves in request headers.

Good point, duly noted. I went ahead and renamed the /linkex directory to /partners and blocked it in robots.txt so the serps dont crawl it anyhow

Settle down there cowboy, I was just agreeing to that the "powered by" link is not the only way for google to see that you are using linkex.

i loved linkex, but not on my own sites! allowed me to jack loads of high pr niche backlinks from lazy webmasters who didn't pay attention to their lists, and allowed a-b-c exchanges. even the minimum pr was easily skipped by and you could pull pr3 pr4 backlinks providingnothing but pr0 backlinks from freehosted autoblogs...
