I do not agree with your post in its entirety because of the way LikeWhoa hosting is characterized. LWI has been pushing the limits of adult hosting ever since we started in October of 2000. Aside from our advantage of other divisions and streams of business (SexCounter, AllLiquid, Development, Design, etc) we are able to build the ultimate infrastructure for hosting because of our expanded needs. Doing that has also required us to focus strongly on support and customers (we had bad judgement on our part as I mentioned before regarding timing for the past few months).

Our prices or offers are tied strictly with other products for marketing purposes, they are not meant to deceive that we are providing service of lesser quality, but opposite one of the best, if not the ultimate. These types of deals have allowed us to grow at consistent rate of 25% per month this year alone in our hosting division without any additional expenses on advertising.

I would love to discuss ways how we can work together at the show.

good answer

It say in their contract how much discount you receive.
But with the tech support and stuff they offer compared to their pricing I think it would be pretty embarrassing asking for money back for mayby 1-2 hours downtime within 1 month

Tukhman 11-28-2002 01:54 PM

Hey Due;)

We do stick to our SLA as much as physically possible, but did work on this issue this year during our annual "remake" of the company's products (which focus on improvements).

For example, as part of our new control panel which we plan to roll out in January (at the Internext Convention) we offer monitoring services for every part of the service (HTTP, SMTP, POP, etc) and configurable allowing our customers to page, e-mail them immediately. Then the SLA kicks in with a "calculator" so you can reload while we are down, although a redundant 10 gigabit network shouldn't do that according to plans:))))

Nick,

Let me be the first one who just wanna thank you. It's ThanksGiving and because of all the downtime I'm not wasting time on checking stats and updating my websites :)
Damn.. If I was in the USA I would have a real holiday without working a single min :-)

True I would never ask for money back. Likewhoa has been too good to me. But stand corrected, it's been longer than 2 hours now.

Tukhman 11-28-2002 02:13 PM

Joe.. Have a Happy Turkey Day! :)))
I just wish I had breakfast...lol

Bobo,
Thanks for your support as always, the best thing about making customers happy is hearing their support when you are at bumpy times. The guys are now reissuing IP addresses to connect directly to the core router rather then going through a second set of routers, hoping it will correct within 15-20 minutes. That's the last update :(

Williams buy Cogent bandwidth, do they not?... So after 1 hop, you go on Cogent lines....

Tukhman 11-28-2002 03:07 PM

I believe every ISP buys bandwidth from each other, one way or another. If Williams is buying Cogent bandwidth it is most likely to further diversify their network, making up for the inability in many cases to peer, rather then buying.

Nysus 11-28-2002 03:15 PM

Alright, just was wondering - never got a response on it before.

Cheers,
Matt

gleem 11-28-2002 03:19 PM

They are still down :feels-hot

In 5 years this is the longest any of my sites have been down.

Tukhman 11-28-2002 03:23 PM

gleem,
The connection has been up for about 20 minutes already, however it is still flapping up and down.

At the moment our guys are working with Foundry and Telseon (once again to clean the fiber because we are not getting a clear signal from one destination to another).

I guess that's the best way I can put it ;-)

funkmaster 11-28-2002 03:29 PM

nick, may I ask what happend with the lawsuit you filed against LEVEL3 back in february this year ?? you made a big announcement but I never heared anything again ... just curious ?

hmm.. I can't get a single trace to go through, not one of my pages is up. Still sitting here staring at "operation timed out trying to connect to avslounge.com" :( I appreciate the update though.

Just makes me sure of the fact that I need to get a backup server in another company that I can somehow switch to when the box goes down.

Tukhman 11-28-2002 03:39 PM

I actually never made any formal announcement except for the fact we had business/legal issues against them, but it seems that Level3 and Like Whoa were happily to part ways. We actually considered them at one point again for delivery bandwidth.

Anybody here running their own dns and keeping a back up copy of their site somewhere else?

If not, no real reason to be bitching. :)

exactly what I need, how do you run a DNS though, any good tutorials out there?

I gotta become a freakin admin now too in addition to being a web designer, graphic designer, script installer, cause I don't think there is ANY host that can ever keep their act together all the time.

Gleem....

You and I go wayyy back. Hit me up on ICQ and I can tell you how to take control of your hosting man :)

It's not too terribly difficult.

SimonBalk 11-28-2002 05:09 PM

I always hear from those LikeWhoa guys that their company is so great, but the cannot keep their own connection alive??!

missnglnk 11-28-2002 05:11 PM

Wiltel/Williams doesn't buy Cogent bandwidth, they peer with them. There's a big difference, and Cogent is a customer of Wiltel by the way.

I'm not in the US and thanksgiving has already past where I live. So no festivities here. Just slapping my cock against the keyboard hoping it put LW back online.

I stand by my word that likewhoa has the best support around...

In the 5 years I've been doing business here, I've seen every single company being bashed or complained about by reputable people... people I knew weren't making it up...

But, what differentiate the ones that are still around and the ones that are gone, what differentiate the BIG companies from the smaller ones is not the amount of time they screwed up or did something wrong.... but how they manage their business models and how they interract with their clients/partners.

Just with any companies, I've had my shares of issues with Likewhoa... and just like everyone I wasn't happy about the downtimes... But, Everytime something happened, it was handled with professionalism and understanding... Everytime I needed something else... a deal to be worked out... or something to be done with our serrvers, Either Nick himself or the kick ass crew there has been helping me in the best of ways...

Hell, I'm sure Moisey, Dennis and Ben are probably waiting for me to leave their hosting rather than keeping me LOL... with all the tech issues I have almost everyday (most oftently 5 times a day) running our 5 servers there, I'm always surprised how happy they are to assist me in any way I can imagine.. Thanks a lot guys... :thumbsup

and the same :thumbsup :thumbsup goes to Stan and Nick for running a class act company...

Now, let's leave those issues behind and bring me that 10gb BW so I can chew off of that and grow along with you guys :)

I would ask for at least a free month of hosting due to this multi-day downtime.

pentae 11-28-2002 07:44 PM

I'm not going to bitch about LW.

If i had more of a solid relationship with them like some of you others do, I would probably be backing them up and staying as well.

I've only had a small vhost with them for about 3 months. I thought putting up with the ocassional downtime every few days during that period was very understanding of me.

But in the last week its become a joke. Not like a laugh your ass off joke but more of a bozo the clown joke.

But this is hosting, its not people, relationships or politics. Its about uptime and quality, sorry LikeWhoa, I am leaving and won't be coming back to you guys.

r-c-e 11-28-2002 07:54 PM

Running uptime with LikeWhoa since we have hosted one site with them: 97.1758%

:repuke

KRL 11-28-2002 10:58 PM

Peer One has reliable and fast bandwidth also.

Well sites that want bookmarks and trades really suffer. If your daily routine was submitting some galleries then losing 4-5 hours is no big deal (normally). Toplists would be hardest hit since they don't get many bookmark returns, and rely almost 100% on trades. Same with cjs and that type of site.

I'll be checking out isprime for hosting some new sites. I'm sick of downtime.

Marcus 11-29-2002 03:29 AM

so is everybody's site back up now?
