Anyone for Mac Adult Hosting?

Just floating an idea here, to see what kind of interest there is. For a long time, I have been hoping to find good adult hosting on Mac hardware and software. It isn't something I have seen offered. I should point out that the response to this thread *could* have an impact on creating such hosting opportunities.

I know this is just asking for platform war trolls. Frankly, I'm not interested. I am not standing up and saying my platform is better, so don't waste your time being defensive. I am just curious if anyone else out there would prefer to be on a host that was run on Mac technology. (Apple-branded G4 hardware, Mac OS X Server OS, open-source server software.)

So, the question is simple... Would you be interested in Mac-based hosting, or do you know anyone you think seriously would? If so, what sort of requirements would you have for such hosting? (Features, bandwidth, etc.) If you want to comment on the idea, go right ahead, but if you have a serious interest, please clearly note it. Just in case anything comes of it.

When it comes to my hosting, I honestly dont let 'fair price' get in my way.

My sites are all being moved to, in some eyes, one of the most expensive of hosts - but also one of the most solid.

I have been with them for well over a year and have only suffered moments of downtime, and it was due to a Router Hardware Upgrade, prescheduled, and notified 3 weeks in advance.

I pay for solid hosting, I dont really care which box its on.

Sure, Id utitlize it, if it was made available, but its not reasonable.

Any dumbfuck tech guy can run PC servers.

To be Apple Certified is a bit more of an Accomplishment than having a Windows badge, in my opinion.

So again - most dont want to pay more for their hardware, and obviously dont have Apple resources to have teams to maintain them on a 'host level.'

Well considering that 99.99% of all scripts are made for perl, php and most of the time ONLY for linux/unix systems I'd personally NEVER go near a win2000 or mac server.

Servers are a nightmare enough without throwing in a lack of software and a nightmare of a installations finding a programmer to get the scripts working on mac.

I mean if it an't broke why fix it?

What possible advantage coulda mac server have? Unix don't crash and its software is the standard.

Exactly.

I am all for Mac, in its proper application.

I dont think Apple servers have any advantage, so as you say 'Why switch?'

Macs have their advantages, those that know of them apply their technology.

Those that don't, complain about the price of a mac and move on to ther Pentiums.

MacOS X is a BSD branch *nix. What leads you to think there would be any trouble with perl and php scripts running on that platform? Right now, the Mac is a well-polished, well-tested Unix box with a decent GUI, not some mysterious third paradigm.

True, I have heard folks here mention running Unix on a mac and it rocks.

I am running Unix on my Mac box. Specifically, Mac OS X 10.2.2, a microkernel BDS variant. It does indeed rock.

there are issues, one of the projects I'm involved with will need a new developer to port to mac . I don't know the particulars but the spec sheet came back and that was the conclusion. Don't misunderstand, there are always issues porting large projects between Linux/Solaris/HP-UX/BSD, I expected there to be issues porting to mac.

I have allot of certs and never even knew Apple had one!

I have never, ever seen a Mac box in a server rack all you will see is Unix and Microsoft boxes, allot of mainstream sites use Microsoft OS on their servers, I do agree that Free BSD is better for what we do here.

Now that Mac is running on a PC platform with Unix why even bother with OSX as a server, just use FreeBSD it is free, rock solid and everything we do in the porn industry runs on it, why waste your time on a unproven OSX server?

Glad to see someone interested.

I guess I see it like this. Technically speaking, the OS is on par with any very solid *nix distro. Likewise, the server is as impressive as anything offered by Dell. So, given that, I would think there would be people out there who the Mac label would be, at least, a tie breaker.

So, ClickCashPro... If hosting like this were available, what kind of business would you consider moving to it?

Mac Hosting..

No way.. the possible advantages are nothing
compared to the dis-advantages like
compatibility problems and basicly: it wont make
a fucking difference at all..

All you pussies with your Mac stories:

Mac are build for Audio, Video and woman.

Not for hosting.. you silly geeks.

but seriously:

I'm a mac user myself (and i have probably more Macs
than you Gothweb... )

I SERIOUSLY dont know why you should even
BOTHER/CONSIDER switching over the Mac hosting.

Really.. the advantages of a Mac (reliability and easy of use)
are in the USER interface.

All those advantages dont really matter if you use it for hosting /
webserver purposes.

Im sure a Mac will be a good hosting server but i cant
think of a single advantage over any other 'normal'
unix x86 based machine.
