N.Korea is preparing to launch ICBM

Satellite spots activity at North Korean missile site
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090530/...koreas_nuclear

and an hour ago, it confirmed they are preparing to launch ICBM.
http://www.joins.com/ (no English news yet)

also USAF in S.Korea observed that NK's 5 armored divisions were forward deployed near the DMZ.
S.Korean navy spots lots of NK warships on the Yellow Sea.
Currently, S.Korea moves to DEFCON 3.

An ex-boyfriend of mine was a cryptologist in the Air Force, and he also spoke fluent Korean. He was on loan to NSA, and made several trips to South Korea during our time together.

He always swore that if the world had one person to be afraid of that it was North Korea's Kim.

I don't know, I think N. Korea would be a push over, just like Iraq was but without the insurgency afterwards. They have a million man military but they will fold quickly, just like the Iraqi army was feared but honestly, those soldiers didn't give a shit either way, they were just in it because it was one of the only jobs in the country.

They may launch a missile one day, but any country in that region could steamroll them in about 2 weeks, if that.

The idea that the north korean army wouldn't fight to the death is pretty retarded, they're certainly brainwashed, underinformed, and patriotic. That's all they know, after all.

You are witnessing the beginnings of WWIII. Once N Korea makes its move on S Korea, Iran will be free to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Because the USA will be spread too thin fighting it's war on terror and a new vietnam.. China is in bed with N Korea and wants to be the main super power now that the USA economy is so weak it sees its chance. Russia is also a threat and most probably in with N Korea.

Kim has always harboured a deep hate for S Korea since the war and he is starting to get older. He knows that now is the time.

Iran + N Korea + Russia + China would be one hell of a war to fight.

although they obviously couldn't fight a war since in terms of troops, numbers are irrelevant in modern warfare if they aren't a modern army, had you ever lived somewhere where people had been indoctrinated by many decades of propaganda, you would know that people don't just wake up one day and say "hey, i think i change my entire world view today".

all they know is that kim jong il was chosen by god to lead them, that the US is still at war with them and that all their problems are due to the west and the influence of the west.

you might look at their capital and see a city that's impossibly impoverished.. but to them, things are pretty good. that's all they know. they have no frame of reference to see things otherwise. they see clean city streets and a world without crime, without ghettos, without robberies and muggings, without drug addicts or any other social problems. they see a life that's pretty nice. one of parks, social events, concerts, museums etc.

bombing the piss out of them and then rolling across the border is only going to harden the population against the west and western influences it will take decades for attitudes to change and fade away, as it is with Russia for example.

thankfully, south korea is there as a comparison and they share the same language etc. and that would most likely speed up the assimilation process.... but it will most likely not happen quickly.

That being said.. fuck them. if they want to start a fight, threaten the world, threaten korea and japan and the US... then let them die.

ugh doesnt sound good.

as for the comments about the n.korean army

alli can say is being married to a s.korean and seeing many of her friends and knowing her brother and father and so on etc.

i wouldnt expect the n.koreans to fold like iraq did....koreans are fiercely proud and very loyal...you can be sure the average soldier might not choose to go and attack s.korea without good cause...but if you are invading them...id expect huge losses on either side

i have never seen a korean person give up on anything yet...they try harder

Wow.. you completely know nothing about anything

North Korea is no joke, their Army is massive as the whole country belongs to it, they are stone cold and have no fear of dying in the name of their great leader.

Troops or no troops, North Korea now has nukes and all it takes is ONE and some city in South Korea, probably Seoul, is a parking lot. Millions dead.

1 Nuke = Millions of Koreans dead + Thousands of American civilians and troops dead = Absolute destruction of North Korean military targets (and probably some cities) by the United States.

I honestly think Kim Jong-il knows he is on his last leg and wants to take his one and only swing before he dies. To the North Koreans who survive, Kim Jong-il will go into the history books as legend, for all time.

The capitalist American pigs are very weak right now. If anyone is going to strike, Russia or China, both who have been building up their military (why?) for a few years now, could take a swing at the USA and maybe even take the lead as the new world superpower. With the capitalist scum on their knees, trillions in debt, a broken people and broken markets, it would be the end for the United States of America.

Germany for one would rejoice.

You can keep on dreaming... there is nothing weak about the US, currently. We may be experiencing an economic slow down... but make no qualms about it... we could still hold our own. Btw... Germany is an ally to the US and a NATO member. Thx for playing, idiot.

You are currently fighting two wars and are up to your eyes in debt. How to you suppose you could afford a 3rd or 4th war? You can't.

That is just the reality of the situation. A 3rd war would break your country and a 4th... a 4th, which may be one to actually defend itself from an attacking foe, would be a lost war.

You are out of money. It's that simple.

That's um, really wrong..

The US is one of China's largest trade partners, and the US owes China Trillions. If China started a war or let it happen with the US their own economy would collapse.

It's because the guy is clinically insane. North Korea has death camps that rival Nazi Germany's and the whole country worships him like he's some god. Most dictators are happy to keep a tight grip on their power and typically don't do too much out side their own boarders unless they know no one cares. Kim ding dong is is possibly crazy enough to actually try something, because he's completely delusional.

NK themselves are not a real threat because they can't sustain a drawn out war. However give that fucker nukes and you never know if he will be crazy enough to actually use them.

Russia is not there for war, just don't provoke them with moving US and NATO military installments close to Russian borders.

Wow, I'm glad people are a responding to my post by saying I'm idiotic or don't know much about anything. Once people here start agreeing with me, I know I have a problem...lol.

Anyway, the same thing was said about Iraq's army, that they are well trained, have been brainwashed, are fiercely proud, and will fight to the death. They didn't do any of those things and in fact, many surrendered barefoot and with rifles that didn't even function.

You people have no world view. The N. Korean's are a proud people, but they know they are repressed and living like crap because of their leader. Email accounts and internet access are sold on the black market like crazy. The people want out. If their leader starts launching nuclear missiles totally unprovoked, they won't go along him and fight till their death for no reason. Yes, if they are invaded they won't like it. I'm talking about if Kim goes crazy and starts launching missiles or attacking other countries unprovoked.

Nobody is suggesting they get invaded for no reason.

Much of your assets are foreigner owned. So not only do you have very little assets, but you are also broke with a huge debt. I'm not being a dick about it, the USA is really in a tight spot right now and very well may be at its weakest point in history.

They may launch a missile one day, but any country in that region could steamroll them in about 2 weeks, if that.
depends on China's thinking...

Very true. But an unprovoked ICBM launch would be hard for China to condone on the national stage.

A traditional military strike by N. Korea on one of it's neighbors would actually be more problematic than a one time nuclear strike, as odd as that sounds.

I think that is where people mistook my post. They thought I meant just invading them outright. I meant if they launch a nuclear missile. A world coalition would form pretty quickly to remove Kim from power, and it wouldn't take that long at all.

To the posters saying that the U.S. economy is too weak for war, I refer you to the Great Depression. War is what got the U.S. out of it. In fact, I'm sure there are plenty of sick pricks in the U.S. that would welcome war for this very reason.

The state of the U.S. economy has no bearing as being a preventative measure against a wide, multi-nation war. If history truly repeats itself, it would be welcomed by some in a macabre fashion.

Um .. thats not quite how it works. America is the one in trouble because of China's bonds. Essentially the US needs to do pretty much what China demands, they are in a very very weak position.

You don't need to go back 80 years to see the effects that wars have on the US economy of today.

How did the last 2 wars work out for the US economy?

That would be good - except the U.S. is no longer as strong in the manufacturing dept. as it was capable of during the depression. Along with Canada its become more service-oriented.

i.e. - Bethlehem Steel in PA and Lackawanna no longer exists (for example).

There is a huge difference between a "world war" and an occupation campaign.

You raise a valid point. I would be inclined to think that such industries would be revved back up, but you're right, you never know. Just my thoughts. I hope we do not find out.
