Saying we have more distractions that can eat up time I fully agree with. Does not really count to making us more busy or us getting more done though. To take it even further it seems we try to bog things down on all scales. Going through some old films and albums I saw how they could build anything from bridges and dams to huge buildings in fractions of the time it takes today. Also find it curious that more and more people seem to work longer hours yet get less done, and even after someone leaves work they still work some more.

My grandmother would do it from time to time. and my father also but since they did not get along, it was not often.

In my own family a lot of years went by where no one did much in this way except for random visits here and there. But after I'd been out and living on my own for many years, after buying a house and living in it for some time, my parents decided to start going out to dinner on Sunday and inviting us along. Before long it became a tradition, and for over 10 years now I try very hard not to miss it. My mother is elderly and not up to going out much any longer so we often have the Sunday meal at their house, and other members of the family often show up. Other times I'll go out just with my dad for dinner, then go back to their place for a visit afterwards. I really don't know what other families do or what people know of it. What I do know is that whenever someone asks "Are you close with your family?" I can say with all honesty "Yes I am", and having a regular day set aside for spending time with family plays a sizeable role in that. I suppose the greater question in this thread would be do you think family is important? My answer is I happen to think that it is.

Had 'family dinner' last night. It's the Sunday routine at my grandparents' house.

"not anything normal".... Well I guess we just disagree there. If you perhaps meant "not common" then I might agree on that, which brings me back to it being a sad comment on society as a whole. We seem to have lost some if not most of our family values somewhere along the way. Maybe people who haven't heard of traditions like this need to stop and take a moment to consider this closer. It's really not that hard a concept to understand that members of a greater family who still live within driving distance of one another would want to have a regular day to visit and share a meal. Is it?

I think sunday dinner with family is very important thing in life. Of course at this moment I dont spend every sundays with my partents or grandmothers but I reserved all and every sundays for my wife and childrens. I think if family spend more time together than they are more STRONG . For some people sunday dinner is normal dinner how they eat every day , but for me sunday is only for my family we doing everything together in that day.Im off the mobile , we doing tohether breakfest , we cooking dinner together , sometimes beofre dinner we going to cinema . I think every family need something what will be only for them. FAMILY ALWAYS MUST BE NUMBER 1 IN LIFE !!

Sunday dinner is still a big deal at my house. It was that way when I was a kid and it is that way for my kid. I have the most time on Sunday to prepare an elaborate meal. I cook every night but my daughter looks forward to something extra special on Sundays.

Family and tradition is what you make of it. I unfortunately lost both my parents way before I should have. I used to have the friends over that made up my "family" every sunday. Summers it would be bbq's in the backyard and winter I still cooked up a storm. People have gotten married, had kids and moved away so we don't get together every Sunday like we used to but I still make sure that every Sunday my kids, boyfriend and I spend time together. No Wii, no xbox, no computer but us hanging out. Some Sundays its a big dinner and some weeks its pizza but it's the intention thats important.

I enjoy a good Sunday dinner. Heck, if you make it big enough, you get awesome lunches out of the leftovers during the week!
I don't have a big family, so we tend to invite some friends over or go to my boyfriend's parents for Sundays. My favourites to make are beef roast, roast chicken, or some lovely apple pork chops.
