Russia packed up and left how many nations peacefully and quietly? And what do they get in return? NATO in their face and hostility. Indeed Putin is a dictator, and far from a perfect character, nor is the nation, but America should be careful not to push them into the cold again. Russia is a friend of Europe and in turn the US, all the really want is some motherfucking respect in their own region. When Russia starts deploying missiles in Mexico and supporting a Latin American socialist military bloc than I think you might finally understand what the US has done to them. They don't appreciate it, and while the US could wipe them off the map in theory, Russia knows with its nuclear weapons, Europe's reliance on energy and an unwillingness to accept large numbers of deaths of soldiers in the US or Europe it will never happen. So why the fuck shouldn't they push back and demand that the US respect their interests? |
The commies are back?

As long as the recession continues, Russia can't sell oil like they used to. Their economy will be completely in the shitter as they have nothing else going for them. If they want to waste their money trying to play superpower, let them. They'll just be spending themselves back into 3rd world status again.

Somewhere, right now, weapons makers are ejaculating on stacks of cash.

i have one question...why the fuck is the US the one putting the missiles up to protect areas in other countries. let the European countries build their own missile defenses with their own money. The US gets mixed up into too much international affairs, and this is what makes the whole fucking world hate us.
unless a nation is doing something that is a direct threat to the US, then the US shouldn't be meddling in international affairs. let other countries settle their own disputes. we can't act like we are gods of the whole world. |

why do people always expect someone from somewhere else to share the same world views, the same perspectives, have the same concerns and same fears? did you grow up in the equivalent of the boy scouts... only instead of tying knots, you were learning to disassemble and reassemble AK-47's? singing songs about war and killing around the camp fire? they are acting this way for the same reason they went into Georgia... because after 15 years of being broke and having to suck the worlds cock for cash, they are in the black economically, saved up tons of cash from high oil prices and are now in a position to re-assert themselves as a power to be reckoned with and respected. it's something that appeals to Russians at home who have been totally humiliated through and after the fall of communism note to Americans ... free elections, Capitalism and Free Markets don't fix all problems in a country and make everyone automatically start seeing things your way. :2 cents: |

I always wonder how these semi-literate, inbred Russian peasants manage to login to GFY in the first place. Likely they are in some crowded, dark internet cafe that smells of stale piss and warm vodka spending their last rubles so they can post about the coming demise of the American empire. You would be better off going to the corner kiosk and getting some more vodka so you can pass out peacefully in your cramped apartment you share with your mother, sister and grandmother (all your male family members having long since succumbed to alcoholism) so you can wake up tomorrow and continue your rantings against the evil Americans and their doomed empire. My point was about the perception of weakness that the election of Obama gives to America's enemies and how it will encourage them to make more aggressive maneuvers. The Russian people may be pathetic alcoholic peasants but Tzar Putin is a strong and determined leader who will run circles around an inexperienced, platitude spouting, empty suit like Obama. |
If this is a big deal I wonder why the U.S. press hasn't picked up the story and run with it.
The article baddog posted (from a .co.uk url I believe) is the only thing I've seen about it. |

McCain would have already ordered a surge of unarmed humvees and body armorless troops to be there for 100 years to defeat and destroy the evil Russians.

Obama isn't doing it alone. He'll also have his cabinet. He's also got an experienced vice president. Plenty of experienced advisors. He's intelligent. Don't worry about him going head to head with Putin.

Do you not recall their deployment into the waters just south of the US over the last month or so? Do you not remember their restarting of bomber flights months ago? Russia is feeling inadequate in the world these days and are trying to do anything to be noticed. |
