Flash banners
What's everyone's experience with flash banners?
Do they get clicked more than regular banners? |

It really depends on the design. Usually motion of any kind will draw your attention. I did a really cool banner for a BDSM site and when the mouse passed over it, you'd hear a really loud whip cracking and then a dude scream his ass off. Pulled like crazy. So adding a bit of audio, on top of motion is another way to enhance the click thrus.

Getting them small enough to load quickly for dialup is important too, also audio can be annoying as well as effective

Flash allows us more natural animations, thru a much higer framerate ... thus making a flash banner, if done properly, more visually pleasing to the eye, and more prone to get clicked ...
Flash banners can also create a curiosity in the surfer ... dazzled by the effects, they click to see more of the same ... Flash also allows us to pack alot in a very efficient filesize ... the only minor consideration with flash banners, is that they are slightly trickier to install as affiliate banners ... but not impossible. You just need to tell your designer ahead of time if you wish to use them for affiliate programs, as the linking codes must be hardcoded into the banners, and considerations must be placed for affiliate codes to work ... Here are a couple samples of flash banners we have done at PAYSITE DESIGN that illustrate the versatility of rich media (flash) Payserve banners (currently being used on a ratethewebmaster campaign) {/end of creative spam}

From my experience, its not "Flash" that draws conversions, its interactivity. Just doing the equivalent of an animated gif with flash is not going to get you very far and won't be worth the added expense.
Cool animation and motion does draw the eye, but in order to break out of the 'banner==ignore' training that everyone on the web has undergone, the ad needs to react to the user. Responsive sound, responsive animation, further information, etc etc. <spam> Check my sig for fast loading responsive shit thats not in flash </spam> |
