Re: pop-ups: Uh, no. As Muff said, an amateur site doesn't need them. In fact it was my experience that we did better without them. Much better. And even if they don't join the first time they see your site, many guys that like your kind of site will bookmark it. And they'll keep coming back . . . if you do a good job of teasing your updates they'll eventually join.

If you insist use one domain for your Amateur trades and a separate one to send paid or filtered traffic to.

Don't give the surfers ANYWHERE else to go to.

Perhaps the poor design and layout of her site will be good - no one will believe a professional designer did it, so perhaps it will convert better with the "real amateur" seekers.

That said, there were a lot of good points about traffic leaks and popups and such here. Whether Ms Big Head will take them or not, who knows.
