Yeap, popped out playing B-ball.

It will never be the same again, even with surgery. After about 3 months the soreness goes away, but anytime you lay on it or lift your arm at a weird angle you will feel it.

Yes. I was snowboarding about 12 years ago and was roughly 6 feet off the lip of a half pipe when I lost control, flipped upside down and fell right on my neck and shoulder.

My neck should have broke. My shoulder dislocated and it took a few months before it was good again, though it still catches from time to time and gives me a little sharp pain.

They say a dislocation is worse than a break sometimes.

I dislocated my shoulder 5 times over 4 years (turns out i've got genetic disorder that makes joints weak).
First time was in the sling for a couple months I think and then did physical therapy to try and strenghten it, after that I didn't stay in the sling long or bother with therapy since obviously it wasn't much use. Finally had surgery, they moved a muscle to create a 'sling' and make the shoulder more stable and since then it may have slipped a bit one time after too much drinking but coulda been something else haha.

I had a mild separation that also caused some pretty nasty ligament pulls in the area ( I did it lifting a case of bottled water out of my truck and felt stupid afterward). I didn't need surgery but did go to physical therapy for about 6 weeks to build the strength back up. After the therapy was done I still had to do the exercises and it was probably around 3 months before my shoulder actually felt normal again.

The tough part about the injury is that unless you immobilize it, you are always moving that joint all day long so it takes longer than normal to heal.

I have, roughly 5 times with 2 surgeries. Now everything is 95%. First surgery was with stupid doctor who fucked up my shoulder even more. Second surgery was with a great doctor who fixed it real well.

My only tip is never go with a doctor with more than 10 years experience.

I dislocated both of my shoulders about 15 times each. I broke my right shoulder and it was re-constructed surgically. There's 3 screws in it. My left shoulder can dislocate either direction and still needs surgery.

It sucks.

I dislocated my right shoulder several times when I was 16-19. Then at 19 I ripped the cap right off the bone and had to have a steel pin put in it to hold it in place.

I had nightmares about dislocating my should again for years. If I lay on my back, I can easily get into a panic attack about it. Just thinking about it will make myself sick so I try to think about butterflys and flowers while writing this.

Worst worst worst experience I ever had. Took 1 year to recover physically and 20 years of fear it would happen again. I still can't move my arm the way I used to. I keep it close to my body and will fight like a banshee and gouge your eyes out if someone grabs my right arm and trys to put it behind my back. If someone grabs my right arm, I take it very very seriously.

I also dislocated my left shoulder, but somehow it went back in, and is now normal. I dislocated my left should when I was 30, maybe age helped it to be more "settled" so it wasn't nearly as bad.

Tore up my left shoulder back in '92 going through JOTC at Ft. Sherman in Panama. Got it put back together pretty well, the doc did a good job. You always have to be concious of what your doing, and take care of it with weights and such. It will never be like it was, and over time it will weaken and your range of motion will grow smaller. Cold weather makes it ache, sleep on it wrong and you might not be able to use it for the day, etc. Nothing at all like Mel Gibson popping it back in and then kicking everyone's ass
